CHAPTER 94

THE UNNATURAL BOND 2 “Why is he this weak?” Vince asked as he continued pacing the hospital room, tension gripping every part of him. He stopped to gaze at Vance’s sleeping form lying on the hospital bed. Vance had collapsed the moment Torin stopped and quickly rushed to the hospital. Billie had also passed out too, in the same condition as Vance, lying in another room in the hospital. “He lost strength because his wolf is somehow bonding to hers. Whatever happens to her now, happens to him too,” Torin explained. Vince shook his head, swiping his palms over his face in frustration. As if he knew Billie was going to mess Vance up. The girl was as evil as her parents. The entire family was a nest of vipers. “How come your power is helping grow the bond?” “Powerful dark magic…” Torin began, hovering his palm over Vance’s body, feeling the eerie hum of the magic vibrating beneath his palm. “It can sometimes feed on clean powers like mine to grow its potency. Agatha has some very powerful things she stole from the leader of my coven before she ran away with Kaden. She used those things to help this Billie girl to create the potion.” He snapped his fingers and the same black smoke emerged from Vance’s sleeping body. “With how strong it is, I believe it’s been inside him for long.” “How long?” Vince couldn’t hide his surprise as he watched the black swirling smoke move over his brother’s body. “Years. It takes time for such to settle inside a person, Torin revealed, gazing at the ominous smoke.” Vince groaned loudly, fisting his palms, wishing he could punch someone. “How could he not know?” “Don’t blame him for not feeling the change…” “He’s an alpha wolf, he should feel it.” Vince cut Torin off, knowing he would have if he was in Vance’s shoes. As if Torin knew Vince’s thoughts, he added. “Even you wouldn’t have felt the change happening with the type of magic she used. It’s a powerful one created from the use of ancient sources. Good sources that were turned into a portal for evil,” Torin explained. “And a large amount of alcohol plus a little wolfsbane.” Sighing heavily, Vince asked. “So, what do we do? There has to be a way to separate them.” Though he was angry at his brother, that didn’t mean he wanted to see Vance tied to Billie forever. Or see him look this frail. He felt the strength seeping out of him when they were in Billie’s cell. It felt like it was his strength leaving his body. Before Torin could reply, Drake and Malia rushed inside. Malia made straight for her son, holding his hand as she sat beside him. “Vance.” Drake looked at his other son. “Was it successful?” then turned to Torin. “Torin?” “It wasn’t,” Vince announced, his eyes stuck to the floor. Malia whipped her head to look at the three. Vince took a deep breath, feeling his parents’ eyes on him. “Torin discovered something more troubling while performing the task,” he saw the anxiety in his parents’ eyes. Hating that he was the one to break this news to them. “She’s bonding her wolf with his.” “No!” Malia shrieked, whipping her head back to her sleeping son, tears instantly welling in her eyes. She grabbed his hands tighter. “And the earlier we stop that bond from getting strong, the better,” Torin chimed in, looking round their faces. “s**t!” Vince groaned, pinching the bridge of his nose. Torin scratched the back of his head, looking for a subtle way of telling them the real truth about Vance’s situation. With werewolves, mates share each other’s scents after mating each other. Either it was a fated or chosen bonding. Mating wasn’t just about s*x with their kind. It was the acknowledgement of their bond. This Billie girl created an unnatural scenario by not just mixing her scent with his, but starting a bond between her wolf and his. Creating an unnatural bond backed by dark magic. Powerful black magic using the strength and powers of a pure white witch like him to get stronger. She was forcing him to be her mate and also creating a deep hole, a vacuum in the heart of his original mate. A vacuum no other feeling can ever fill up. His real mate would forever feel empty. Become mateless because her mate has been forced to choose another. The feeling of emptiness would remain forever even if she takes a chosen mate. Same goes for the mate of the person that formed the unnatural bonding. She was not only bonding with Vance. “Torin?” Malia’s broken voice broke into his thoughts. “Why do we need to act fast?” His eyes scanned her worried face, his heart heavy with empathy. A mother’s face filled with worry and fear for her son whose life was never going to be the same again. Once Vance finds out about the fake bond, he would hate this Billie girl. Every time he felt the tug of the fake mate bond, he would hate her. He would feel the attraction but hate very moment of intimacy between the two of them. He would spend the rest of his life yearning for his real mate. What Billie thought was going to be paradise was going to be hell for her. “He will lose his bond to his fated mate,” Torin announced, his words casting a pall over the room. “His wolf will soon identify Billie as his fated mate, leaving Nicole empty and mateless.” His words enveloped the room in deep silence as they absorbed Torin’s revelation. Vince felt the weight of the words sinking in. He wondered what it would feel like to lose a mated bond. He couldn’t imagine himself not mated to Nicole. Again, he wondered what Torin meant by Nicole being mateless. “How will she be mateless when she’s my mate?” he found Torin’s eyes already trained on him as if waiting for him to ask the question. “You are his twin and share the same mate. If it was to be a rejection, it would have been okay for you to remain as her mate. But with what Billie did, once Vance identifies her as his mate, you could also do the same.”
