CHAPTER 102

BALLS OF FIRE. NICOLE Jonah and I are still arguing when a rogue in human form casually strolls our way. His appearance looks too neat for someone who has been fighting, coupled with the evil smirk on his face. “Stay behind me, Luna,” Jonah pulls me protectively closer to his back. “Finally, found you,” the rogue smacks his lips together, his yellow eyes on me. “And you’re coming with me.” “I don’t think so,” Jonah growls defiantly at him, going into defense mode. “Oh, I think so,” the rogue retorts, c*****g his head and with a loud snarl, shifts to his wolf and launch himself at Jonah who remains in his human form. Jonah ensures I don’t leave his back as he fights back, expertly defending the rogue’s relentless attacks. I watch in awe and pride as he battles. My mates aren’t wrong in choosing him to protect me. “Anaya, if you’re seeing all these, I need you now,” calling desperately to my wolf for help. Isn’t she supposed to show up at a time like this? “I won’t be able to shift this time,” her voice comes clearly into my head, freezing me in place. “Anaya!” I squeal in both joy and shock, forgetting the chaos around me for a moment. “We can do that later,” she chuckles in amusement. “The pack needs us. If we don’t want to distract our mates, you need to do the work this time around,” “Yeah, sure,” I rein in my happiness. “What do I do?” “Just focus on that ball of anger that’s rolling inside you.” “How do I do that?” “Just imagine it as a fire first, then imagine blowing air into a balloon,” Anaya guides me. “Why can’t you just shift like you did at the hospital?” this was going to be hard to do. “Didn’t you just call yourself the Firewolf? What happened to wanting to help ‘your people’?” “Just saying.” “Besides, I can’t come out fully again unless the command is lifted.” “What command?” “Later. Now, close your eyes and focus on the ball of fire.” A ball of anger. Blowing air into a balloon. I chant in my head, closing my eyes and starting to visualize a ball of fire in my mind. I can feel its warmth. Feel it growing bigger as I imagine a balloon expanding. I hold my breath for some seconds, locking out all the noise around me. “That’s it,” Anaya whispers in my head. I release my breath, feeling the heat of the exhaled air in my mouth. My fingers flicker as I channel the energy within to them, feeling a surge of energy dancing on them. “More,” Anaya’s voices tinkles in my head. “Imagine it’s a balloon filled with water and bursting.”. Complying, I take in more breaths, seeing the balloon bursting and the flames splashing everywhere. “Spread it out all over your body,” Anaya whispers again. “How?” “Just imagine it spreading out like a wide smile on your face.” Taking one last deep breath and breathing out, the fire spreads into all parts of my body, enveloping me in a warm embrace. I can feel a tingling sensation on my fingers and toes. “Now, open your eyes,” Anaya whispers with an amused chuckle. “Look at yourself.” When I do so, I see a breathtaking sight. My senses are heightened and my focus sharpened. “Anaya!” exclaiming at this marvelous transformation. When I peer down, I am on fire. Flames are dancing all over my body, lighting up the little darkness around. My clothes are on fire, yet aren’t burning. I don’t feel any pain but strong power surging through me, pulsating inside my veins. The grasses under my feet aren’t burning. And my wounds have healed up. “Wow!” I mouth as I check my body. Even my hair remains the same. “That’s our fire. Just a little sneak peek,” she chuckles. “It’s beautiful.” “Wait till we get them all.” “How do I use it?” “Hurl it at who you want to. The rogues, especially the ones around us.” I guide the flames between my palms and hurl a ball of fire at the rogue fighting Jonah. The rogue gives a loud howl as the flames engulf him, igniting his fur. I watch in awe at the trashing spectacle before me. “Luna!” Jonah’s voice draws me out of my reverie, his eyes filled with both shock and awe. “We need to help the others. Come on,” I say as I confidently make my way towards the fighting, hurling balls of fire where it’s needed, with Jonah beside me. Luna Malia’s eyes widen when she sees me. “You got your powers,” she exclaims with joy, curiosity and admiration. “It’s beautiful.” “I guess so,” I reply giving her a small smile before looking round the pack. “Anaya, how do we get to the others? I can’t walk the entire length of the pack hurling balls of flames at the rogues.” “If only we are at full capacity, you wouldn’t have to do that,” she grumbles in annoyance. “Full capacity?” her cryptic remark leaves me intrigued. “Silly human, you don’t know how powerful we are,” she chuckles. “I think I may have an idea.” “What is it?” I inquire as I continue to unleash havoc on the rogues. The pack members are slowly gathering around, watching in amazement. I would do same if I see me too like this. “We need our mates beside us, so we can temporarily transfer some of our powers to them.” “We can do that?” I'm taken aback by her revelation. “We can do more than that. They have a link to the pack and can send our powers through their link.” Turning to Luna Malia and the others. “I need to be with…them…” I still can’t say the word ‘mates.’ “Your mates?” Luna Malia narrows her eyes at me playfully. “Yes,” biting my lips in embarrassment as I confess. “It’s exhausting doing this round the pack.” “Sure,” she scans the faces around us. “Our future Luna needs to be near her mates to burn the rest rogues. We need to protect her.” “Let’s go!” Jonah growls a command, rallying the small crowd and we start to move, with him and the Luna flanking my sides and the rest forming a protective circle. As we pass through the chaos, fireballs leap out of my palms, scorching the fur of rogues and releasing pained howls and yelps into the air. As rogues trashed on the ground, more pack members join our party which keeps growing. As do the whispers. “She’s special.” “Did you see the fireballs. They were huge and didn’t even burn me when the flames fell on me.” “She’s their mate.” “She’s our Luna.” “Thank the goddess it’s not those two gold digger gammas. I would have gladly left the pack if the alphas had chosen them. “I must say we’re blessed to have her as our next Luna.” I share a brief glance with Luna Malia. She smiles at me, giving me an affirming nod.
