~Noah’s POV~

I didn’t sleep last night. My actions kept swirling in my mind. I agreed to talk to her but I don't know how I will do that.

I got up from my bed and went towards the balcony, the sun rising is always better than anything.

"You need to fade out for a while," Duke said.

Duke jumped from the balcony and shifted mid-air in his form. I sat back in his mind and let him have all control.

He sprinted deeper into the forest and ran for an hour without stopping. He stopped near the lake, drank some water, and sat there. After a while he felt eyes on him, he stood and looked around but didn’t see anyone. He tried to catch any scent but there was no scent. He cautiously made his way back to the packhouse.

He gave me control and I shifted into my human form. I took a T-shirt and basketball shorts from a tree trunk and quickly got dressed. As I headed back, I saw Peter and my head warrior Kade, training the pack. I proudly smiled looking at my pack training hard, at least something is under control as it should be. Some pups who are just 10, were doing cardio exercises. Only my pack in California has young warriors who are above 13, strong and skilled and ready to handle themselves and their pack at any time.

I reached the gym and saw Taylor Training Serena. He was working on her speed first.

I sniffed the air... Something is off with Serena. I don't know why but I can’t smell her. I was unable to smell her yesterday when she was in the packhouse and today as well.

She must have sensed me as I saw her looking in my direction. She brightly smiled and waved. I thought she was waving at me but then I saw Kade coming behind me, he had a huge smile on his face and he was waving at my mate!

I used my alpha voice, “Kade.”

He was startled, “Yes alpha.”

“Why are you here? You should be on training grounds.”

“I came to tell you that Alpha Johnson is here.”

I narrowed my eyes at him, “You could have mind-linked me.”

“I-I”

“Good morning Alpha. Can we take Kade with us? He promised us that he would teach us more about self-defence and weapons.” Lilly and her friends came to his rescue.

I nodded and he left with them. I looked at Serena one more time and f**k she and Kade were f*****g smiling at each other!

What the heck! Do they like each other? Why they were looking at each other like that? Wait a minute, am I jealous?

Duke gave his wolfy laugh, “Of course you are. I like Kade, Noah. He is our head warrior and the best fighter we have but I don’t want him to go near Serena. She is ours.”

Are they only friends or there is something more?

I brushed it off and left for my office. I'll think about this later.

I reached my office and was greeted by Alpha Johnson. He is my ally and old friend, we were together in school. I greet him, “Good morning alpha Johnson.”

He laughed, “Always so formal huh? Good morning alpha Black”.

I told Mrs. Beck to send coffee for us and asked, “So everything fine in your clan? Are rogues still creating problems for you?”

He sighed, “Yes, they are constantly attacking my pack. They killed my Beta’s mother in the last attack.”

“How many they were?”

“Almost 100”.

That’s a big number.

“Do you have any idea why they are doing this? I mean do they want something from you or they are doing it just to take you down?”

“I don’t know. They didn’t demand anything yet.”

I feel bad for him. He took over his father’s pack at a very young age. Something happened with his father and he became miserable in handling his pack. He has been looking after his father's position since he was 15 and took over the pack after a few months. A few months ago, he lost his parents and his mate died in an accident.

He is a great alpha and father. His people always trusted him even when he was a teenager.

“I’ll send a few of my men into your territory. They will help you form a new security plan and will stay there for some days in case any attack happens.” I told him.

His face brightened and said, “Thank you alpha Black. This will be a great help.”

I smiled and shook hands with him.

After Johnson left, I went to my room and took a nice long shower. I kept thinking about how Kade was looking at Serena. And she looked comfortable too. f**k! Why I am so jealous? Why the f**k I can't get this out of my mind?

I internally thanked Taylor for grabbing my attention, and he mind-linked me, “We need to discuss some things alpha.”

Great... The way he sounded makes me think that we have another issue on our heads. I told him to meet me in my office in 15 minutes.

Pissed Taylor came into my office and took his seat. He started, ”You know Serena is here, how could you do that to her? I know you have your experience but Noah she is not like her, she is not like your father’s mate. Your mother hurt your father and now you are hurting Serena. Do you think you are protecting yourself? No, you are hurting yourself and Serena both. And you know what... You are damaging her the same way your mother damaged your father.”

Same as my mother? No... I am nowhere like her. But...

I took my attention back on Taylor who was glaring at me. He had never been so enraged with me before. Only he had the audacity to talk to me like that. Perks of being best friends.

“I know I did wrong, Taylor. I didn’t know she would hear us.”

Taylor scoffed, “Oh so you think cheating on her wasn’t wrong? Her hearing you was wrong.”

I sighed, "Look I don’t know what I am supposed to do. I’m hanging between accepting her and that mate bond thing that I saw in the past.”

Taylor sighed, “I know Noah, but you need to give yourself a chance. You need someone who will understand you, and who will take care of you. Serena is your perfect match. She knows what it feels like to be alone. She knows how it feels when you lose everyone you love. You both have something in common Noah.”

I sighed, “Is that all you wanted to talk about?”

Taylor shook his head, “No. I told Serena about the call you received that day. She said that the warlock who kidnapped her, his name was Zedr Bishop. He is using Serena’s friend's name to find her.”

“Dustin Fijj is her friend who helped her escape?” I asked Taylor.

He nodded.

He continued, “Serena said that Zedr will try to find her before her birthday. He wants to kill her on her birthday and now she doesn’t even have a month. Her birthday is on the 13th of the next month.”

I growled loudly, “Nobody will dare to hurt my mate. I will kill him before that!”

Taylor smiled and said, “I know alpha. You won’t let anything happen to your mate. Clam down I have more to tell.”

I took deep breaths and calmed the growling Duke, “I won’t let anyone harm her Duke, calm down.”

Taylor spoke, “I noticed something weird. This morning Serena was standing beside me but I was unable to smell her.”

I narrowed my eyes, “I noticed this too. She was in the packhouse yesterday and I didn’t catch her scent, also, I tried to catch her scent in the gym but there was nothing. Is she wearing suppressants?”

He shrugged, “I asked her about her scent, and she shrugged and said that my nose isn’t working properly,” he said while narrowing his eyes.

“Also when I asked her to have a run with me she”- he zoned out.

I called him, “Taylor? What happened on your run?”

“She was freaking fast. She left me behind! Heck, I didn’t even see her going ahead of me. She is faster than me. “

I am surprised. Taylor is fast in both his human and wolf form. He always gives tough competition to me and Serena... she left him behind.

“Our mate is amazing,” Duke proudly said.

We need to find out more about Serena's background. Why does any warlock want to kill a she-wolf? There must be a reason behind this. Why does her birthday mean so much to that fucker? I need to find out what he needs from my mate.

I looked at Taylor, “We need to find more information about her. She trusts you, Taylor, ask her about her pack and her family. We need to know more about her.”

Taylor sighed and said, “Don’t you think that you should do this? She is your mate. You should talk to her. Take this as a chance, make a move and apologize as well.”

Duke agreed with him, “This is your chance to make things right Noah. Talk to her.”

Talking is fine but apologize? How I'm going to explain my shitty actions?
