Ottilie POV
He stared deep into my eyes, like he could see into my soul, his thumb caressing the side of my face.
"Leo, my wolf," he sighed heavily, "He wants to mark you Ottilie, he wants all of you, all to himself."
I didn't know what to say. I liked Damon, I liked him a lot and I was fairly certain that we were linked in some way. He made me feel safe in a way that the triplets never had, I knew that I could trust him but him marking me? I wasn't there yet, Ariana still wasn't speaking to me and I was still mated to the triplets, I needed to figure out what was going on.
"He's not going to," said Damon quickly seeing the uncertain look on my face. "I would never let him without your permission Ottilie. I really like you but I'm not ready to mark you either. It's the other part of me, Leo, that keeps telling me that we're fated and once he's made a decision he doesn't tend to change his mind."
I smiled as I leant into his touch, his words comforting me. "I know Damon, I know I can trust you." My eyes dropped to his lips and without meaning to, I licked my lips.
He bent down to kiss me softly, his scent wrapping itself around me. As I kissed him back, my knees buckled and he wrapped his arm around me to hold me up. He pulled back a little, smiling down at me, "let's go home."
We took a shortcut back to the pack, Damon ended up carrying me most of the way to save me from my high heels. I rested my head against his chest as we walked, the beat of his heart drawing me closer to him. There was no doubt that I was attracted to him, he was handsome and kind and I didn't have crappy history with him like I did with the triplets. It was all horribly confusing but those thoughts were fleeting. As we got to the edge of town I asked Damon to put me down. We definitely attracted some attention, I was still fairly unknown in the pack and I couldn't miss the stares and whispers that came my way. Most were friendly but the younger females glared at me, clearly p****d that I was walking pretty much arm in arm with their very eligible Alpha.
"If looks could kill," I muttered under my breath.
Damon looked amused, "you don't strike me as someone who cares what other people think." he said, his wolf hearing obviously excellent.
"Oh I don't, but I've just left a load of jealous b*****s that were itching to rip my throat out, I was hoping to avoid them wherever I ended up next."
"I wouldn't worry, I've never gone there with any of them so none of them have a claim on me."
I looked up at him. "Why would I be worried? We're not mated, you can go there with any females you want to," I teased a little.
The muscle in his jaw twitched but before he could say anything Jake rushed up to us.
"Damon you shut your mindlink off, there's a rogue attack at the north corner, we need to go now."
Fear spread through me, rogues were extremely dangerous, they'd been known to decimate whole packs before.
Damon drew himself up to his full height, "Ottilie go back to the packhouse now, Sophie will show you where the safe rooms are."
"Damon I want to help, I don't run from fights," I said determinedly, standing my ground.
"Ottilie you can't shift, I also have no idea what your training level is. Please go with Sophie."
I opened my mouth to argue again.
"Ottilie this isn't a discussion, it's an order. Go with Sophie now or I'll carry you there myself and the longer I'm not defending my pack, the worse off we'll be."
"Alpha we have to go," Jake interjected.
"Fine," I said shortly, turning on my heels. I knew he was right but it didn't make it any easier. I hated feeling weak, I'd spent my whole life feeling useless, unable to defend myself. I stomped angrily back to the packhouse, getting more and more annoyed as I saw the men heading the other way. I marched up the steps into the packhouse along with the other women and children of the pack and headed towards Sophie who was barking instructions in the middle of the entrance hall.
"Oh thank god Ottilie, can you help me? It's f*****g pandemonium here. We just need to get everyone downstairs to the safe rooms quickly."
"Sure, put me to work," I said, desperate to do something helpful.
Within 15 minutes we were all down in the basement and through the tunnels that led to the safe rooms. It was quiet in there once everyone had settled down but I didn't really know what I was expecting, I'd never been in one before. Whenever rogues had attacked my old pack I was left to fend for myself and just hid in my room, shaking with fear until all was clear.
"Ottilie," someone placed a hand on my arm. I looked up into a pair of bright blue twinkling eyes. "It's so lovely to see you again. I'm Damon's Mum, Luna Kate, but please, just call me Kate." She smiled kindly, there was something about her that again, like Damon was so familiar. From her words we must have met before but I couldn't remember much from my childhood.
"It's lovely to see you Luna Kate, sorry I mean Kate, I'm still trying to get used to how informal everyone is here." I smiled back at her. She had a great aura, even without Ariana I had a good feeling about her.
"Oh please don't apologise, come, meet my husband Sam, he's been desperate to see you again." She led me over to the corner of a room that was almost deserted. An older man lay on a low bed there, propped up by pillows. He looked handsome, like Damon but was obviously not well. His face was gaunt and he had a greyish tinge to his skin.
"Darling, look who I've found."
He opened his eyes and squinted at me a little.
"Ottilie," he rasped, attempted to sit. Before Kate could stop me I went to help him, gently shifting his pillows and supporting his back so he could sit up properly. "Here," I said, passing him his water.
I sat next to him on the floor next to him, waiting for him to finish.
"Thank you," he said, his voice a little clearer now. "It's lovely to see you again Ottilie, you look so much like your mother."
A warm feeling filled my chest. "You knew my mum?"
"Yes," said Kate, coming to sit on the end of the bed, smiling at me warmly. "I suppose you were quite little the last time we would have seen each other. We knew your Father too, they were wonderful. You must miss them very much."
I stared at my hands in my lap, desperately trying not to cry. I rarely thought of my parents, it was just too painful. I didn't know if they were alive or dead. Sometimes when I had been at my lowest point I would imagine what it would be like to be together again. I was desperate to find them.
"I do," I whispered finally, before looking up at them with bright eyes. "thank you for being so kind to me, it's not really something that I'm used to."
Their expressions darkened a little, "Damon told us about your old pack, I can only apologise on behalf of my brother," said Alpha Sam. "Treating a child like that, regardless of what their parents allegedly did I have no idea what he was thinking."
"It's ok, honestly, now please, tell me about my parents. It's been so long since anyone spoke of them, I'd really love to hear your stories."
I don't know how long we were in the safe rooms but it all went past so quickly. I felt drawn to them both, as if I'd known them for years which I supposed I had. Their stories of my parents filled me with hope that one day I'd find them. They made it clear that they didn't believe that my parents were traitors which was comforting to hear at least. "Your parents just weren't the type darling," Kate said thoughtfully, twirling a piece of dark curly hair around her fingers. "It must have been someone else, someone who wanted them out of the way. There were some funny wolves in that pack of yours."
By the time Jake had mindlinked Sophie to let us out, I was more confused than ever. They really had given me an awful lot to think about. I made my way up to my room and began to strip, it was the early hours of the morning and I was exhausted but desperate for a shower. My head was filled with old memories that I'd long forgotten, spinning around, I needed sleep.
Before I could head into my bathroom there was a soft knock at the door. Thinking it was probably Sophie as she'd said she would come and find me, I wrapped a towel around me and opened the door, shocked to find Damon there.
"Hi," he said softly, his bright blue eyes looking me up and down.
"Hey," I replied, tugging my towel around me. We stared at each other in silence for a minute before I realised I hadn't asked him to come in.
"Sorry, please, come in, I was about to shower if you don't mind waiting?" Something inside me stirred and I nearly asked him to join me, the thought of it making me blush. I stepped aside and he walked in, running his hands through his hair tiredly.
"Sure, I'll wait for you," he said, sitting down heavily on the sofa.
I showered as quickly as I could, ignoring the throbbing feeling between my legs. I knew that he'd be able to smell my arousal within seconds and I needed to keep it at bay or else I wouldn't be responsible for what happened. Leaving my hair wet I dressed quickly in an oversized t-shirt and black underwear. As I entered my room I stopped, he'd fallen asleep on the sofa, his hand still on the remote and his jacket and shoes still on. He must have been exhausted. I watched him as his chest rose and fell, his breathing heavy. I padded over to him silently and gently curled up in the spot next to him, resting my head on his chest. His breathing slowed immediately and he pulled me into him as my eyes grew heavy. The smell of the forest and his scent surrounded and filled my senses and I fell asleep wrapped in his arms.
I woke to birds tweeting and sunlight streaming through the open curtains. In the night we'd moved, Damon was lying on the sofa now and I was half on top of him, his hand on my hip, sending sparks throughout my body. I needed to move before he realised I'd almost jumped him in his sleep. I gently moved one leg swinging it over him, essentially straddling him. His eyes sprung open almost immediately and I felt something hard twitch where it mattered the most.
"Damon," I breathed as wetness pooled in between my legs. "I'm sorry, I shouldn't of....."
"F**k," he replied, his eyes swirling to black, before he pulled me down to meet his lips.
