When Chase and I arrived to Pleasant View, we checked into the only motel in town. I texted her the room number we are in and wait until she arrives before going anywhere else. Hal an hour later, there's a knock on the door and I am quick to answer it, engulfing my best friend in a hug.
"Well, nice to see you too." She giggles.
We sit down and think of where to start looking first. Elizabeth recommends we go visit the diner first, and greet people we haven't seen in years. That way, it doesn't like suspicious that we just showed up and start digging through Jane's house.
We pull up to the diner and I start reminiscing about my time here. This place will always hold a place in my heart, because this is where I met the love of my life. We walk in and take a seat at an empty table. The last I heard, Henry owned this diner now. I wonder where he's at? I would love to say hi and see how he's doing. A women walks over and introduces herself as the owner.
"Hi! I've never seen yo guys here before. Are you new in town?" She kindly asks.
"Actually, we lived here a few years ago. We are visiting and stopped here first because this is our favorite place. Do you happen to know if Henry is here?" I ask in return. Her face dropped into a frown at the mention of his name. "Henry was my grandfather, but he passed a year ago from lung cancer."
The three of us gave our condolences and introduced yourselves. When Elizabeth mentioned who her mother was, Stacy, Henry's grad-daughter, knew who she was talking about immediately.
"My grandfather talked so highly of Jane. You know, he spent every single day before and after work searching for her. Has she been found yet?" Stacy asked with concern in her voice.
"No, but I'm not giving up hope." Elizabeth said. Wow, she's a good actress. After some more small talk, we ordered and ate lunch. Saying goodbye to Stacy, we made our way over to Jane's house. I hesitated to step inside after Elizabeth and Chase. This place brought back horrible memories. Chase placed his hands in mine and told me to take my time. He was all the support I needed, and I walked with him through the door.
"What exactly are we searching for?" I ask out loud.
"Anything that indicates a place that is fond to my mother and father. I bet she also buried your father with mine." I never realized that this entire time, my friend never knew where her father was buried. She never got to visit his grave and is why she was so eager to help. This gives me a greater motive to find the location. I want to help her and my future husband.
The three of us split up and search the house for what seems like hours. I hear sniffles from a bedroom and peek in to see Elizabeth crying on the floor. I almost trip over the wooden floor board that she must have torn up. In her hands are a bunch of photos. I sit beside her and soon Chase joins us. We don't say a word as we look at old family photos with her. There is one photo that stands out more than the rest. It's a photo of Jane and her husband when they were young. In the corner of the picture is dried blood and on the back is a date.
Bingo.
