Conrad
Ronnie didn’t look all that happy as she moved from table to table. Maybe she was just thinking, but I didn’t want to leave her.
“We should go,” Cal remarked, but I ignored him. I didn’t want to go. I still wanted to talk to Ronnie. “Conrad…we should go…give her some space,”
“Should we?” I asked as I glanced over at him.
“Yes, we should. We told her she is our mate…now the ball is in her court,”
“Yes, but we didn’t even tell her what we wanted,” I remarked, but Callum shook his head. “What?”
“We don’t even know what we want but you want her to know something we don’t know?” I shook my head as I finally stood up.
“Come on, let’s go see Grayson. Maybe he can explain this to us,” I said, as I tried not to look at Ronnie. I wanted to, but I managed to get outside without staring at her. Callum didn’t say anything as he started the truck and neither of us said anything as he drove to the packhouse.
“Biggs twins, what a surprise!” Grayson remarked as he stood on the porch of the packhouse. I jumped out of the truck and headed straight for him.
“Alpha, sorry for just barging in like this,” I said apologetically, but Grayson waved his hand.
“Nonsense,” he said as he took a seat on the patio armchair. I didn’t bother to sit down as I started to pace. Callum, on the other hand, sat down on the two-seater patio couch. I already knew my brother would do the talking.
“Alpha, my brother and I have found ourselves in quite a predicament,” Callum started, and Grayson frowned.
“What’s going on?” he asked curiously.
“Well, you see…we both found our mate,”
“Splendid! Congratulations!” Grayson exclaimed as he smiled brightly, but his smile soon faded. “But?”
“But the thing is…she is my mate and his,” Callum explained. Grayson looked utterly confused for a moment before he seemed to understand.
“Oh, s**t,” he remarked. “That is…I’ve never heard of anything like that before,”
“Yeah…well, here we are,” I said.
“May I ask who she is?”
“Veronica Tatum,” Callum provided her name and Grayson nodded. He knew exactly who she was.
“Um…what…woah…sorry, I just don’t know what to say,” he admitted, and I chuckled.
“Neither do we,” I said.
“We told her earlier…she doesn’t quite believe us, and we aren’t sure what to do…” Callum said.
“I’m sorry, I don’t know what to say to either of you. I mean…my instinct tells me that you should accept that you have the same mate and go with the flow…but my logical brain is telling me that Veronica needs to decide,”
“Instinctively, logically, realistically,” I muttered. “None of that matters, I am not sharing my mate with my twin brother,”
“Likewise,” Callum agreed. “But how are we supposed to settle it? Should we just let her choose? That would be…awful for one of us and you know, Alpha, we aren’t competitive,”
“No, I know,” Grayson said. “This is rather difficult…I suggest you give her time to process the news and then approach her again. Possibly over dinner or something for more privacy? I wish I had a better suggestion or advice…but I just don’t,”
“Thanks, Alpha,” I said as I went back to the truck. I didn’t bother to listen in on whatever Callum said to Grayson. It didn’t matter. I had a feeling that things were about to get competitive, whether we wanted it to or not. Once Callum was behind the wheel, I thought about what we should do next.
“Maybe Grayson is right,” Callum remarked, and I frowned as I glanced at him. “Maybe we should just wait for her and then…talk about it?”
“Yeah,” I agreed. “But you and I need to talk too, brother,”
“About?”
“About the fact that one of us…or maybe even both of us…are going to get hurt,” I said softly. It was a horrible thing, but it was bound to happen. “I don’t want to hurt you,” I added.
“Likewise…I mean, I guess we could both reject her?” he suggested, but for some reason, I didn’t like that idea at all.
“We could…but I want a shot,” I admitted.
“Likewise,” he agreed. We didn’t say anything else as he drove us home. However, we were surprised to see Ronnie sitting on the top step of the porch. “Is that?”
“I believe so, brother,” I said. Callum parked the truck and both of us hurried to get out. Ronnie stood up as we carefully approached her.
“Ok…seriously…were the two of you trying to trick me or something? Like a horrible prank?” she questioned as she folded her arms across her chest. I had to admit, she was breathtakingly beautiful.
“No,” I said firmly. “It’s the truth and we don’t know what to do,”
“How is this even possible?” she asked.
“We don’t know, and Grayson doesn’t know either…but here we are,” Callum said. Silence fell between us but all I wanted to do was to get to know her.
“Any thoughts or suggestions?” I asked her. Ronnie looked skeptical for a moment and then she smiled.
“Well, I’m single and I think you are both sexy as hell…I guess the only question is who wants to be my first date?” Callum and I both reacted at the same time, but she put up her hand to silence us. “I don’t want to cause any sibling rivalry, so I’ll choose…ok?” that sounded like a much better idea, so I simply waited for her to make her first choice. As much as I loved my brother, I wanted to be the first one to take her on a date. Ronnie seemed to be thinking it over as she looked at us. “Conrad,” she said with a smile, and as much as I wanted to rejoice, I could actually feel Callum’s disappointment.
“Are you sure?” I asked and she frowned.
“I can always change my mind,” she said, and I sighed. This was already hard, and I knew it was only going to get harder.
