Veronica I had no idea what I was doing. How could I possibly handle one man, let alone two? I was their mate. How sick and twisted was that? I didn’t want to come between the two brothers, but clearly, I had to do something. “Are you sure this is ok?” Conrad questioned as he glanced over at me, and I did my very best to smile. This wasn’t awkward at all. Callum looked at me as well and I sighed as I came to a stop. “Look, this impromptu party for Josiah’s…Aunt, is just an opportunity for us to get to know each other. This isn’t a date or whatever. I don’t expect either of you to do anything other than simply be yourselves,” I pointed out firmly. They needed to understand things quickly before it got messy. Hell, it was already messy but here we are. No point in crying over spilled milk. Conrad was the first to react as he smiled brightly. It was weird to me that I could tell them apart. Ok, I did look at his hand. Especially since the twins had decided to dress in exactly the same clothing. Both of them wore black tight-fitting T-shirts with dark blue jeans and black boots. Although it was slightly annoying, I had to admit that they looked extremely sexy. Callum still looked hesitant but then he also smiled. While I may be able to tell them apart – only just – I was eager to get to know their differences. So far, I had decided that Callum was the one who was more put together. More organized in a sense. Conrad seemed like a bit of a bad boy – at least that was the vibe I had gotten so far. It wasn’t much since I hadn’t spent that much time around them, but it was a start. “Well, in that case, let’s enjoy this party,” Conrad remarked as he continued to the entertainment hall. It was strange being back here so quickly for a different event. The hall had been decorated accordingly and I smiled as I looked around. I had never given much thought to whether or not I would want children and as I spotted a few familiar faces, I started to wonder if my future would be different now that I had met the twins. “Ronnie! You made it!” my mother exclaimed as she hurried toward me. That was another thing that was weird. Not living with her anymore made me feel all grown up, but I missed my mother something fierce. I accepted the hug as she squeezed me tightly for a moment. “Oh, and…oh!” she remarked as she eyed the twins. “Mother, this is Conrad and Callum Biggs. Twins…” I shot her a wink and she smiled. My mother was very much my best friend. “Apparently, I am their mate,” I added softly. Her eyes went wide, and I didn’t miss the twinkle of mischief either. “Oh, really?!" “Just keep it on the DL, would you, mother?” I added as I eyed the twins. They had suddenly gone from being confident men to a nervous bundle of boys. It was quite adorable. “Twins, meet my mother, Blaise,” “An honor to meet you,” Callum said as he closed the distance and kissed my mother’s cheek. She was already red in the face, but she managed to stay upright, which I found amusing. “Nice to meet you,” Conrad said as he, too, kissed her other cheek. “Well now, a gal could get used to this,” she said, and I laughed. Of course, my mother would say something like that. I shouldn’t have been so surprised, but I was. While we hadn’t truly discussed my life or lack thereof, it was strange to be in this sudden situation. “You didn’t bring any gifts?” my mother then asked as she eyed my empty hands. “No, I had no idea what to get for her,” I admitted. The twins had been empty-handed as well, but they seemed less embarrassed. However, that didn’t last very long. “And you two didn’t either?” “Ah…” Callum immediately looked to his brother for help. That was something I found interesting. I had pegged him as organized and put-together, but I may have been too quick to label him. “Our gift isn’t something we can wrap up,” Conrad replied with confidence. It was fake confidence, but he managed to pull it off. “Oh?” I asked curiously. “Um…yeah…I know that this is all about the baby but…Callum had this idea for Mirriam,” Conrad continued. Callum blushed, which I thought was cute, but I was far too curious about this so-called gift. If it existed. “And what is it?” I questioned. My mother was just as curious as she stared at Conrad. “Well…I don’t know if either of you know, but we own and run the vineyard just outside of Skaydal. We thought that it would be nice to invite Mirriam to the vineyard for some wine and beer tastings…I know it sounds silly, but after she’s given birth, I’m sure she would enjoy an evening of relaxation and some good drinks and food,” my mother and I shared a look. We knew the truth about Mirriam but still, the thought was so sweet. “That sounds like a lovely gift,” I said. “It does,” my mother remarked, and that twinkle was back. What was she up to? She smiled as she stepped back, and I frowned. “And since Ronnie is now in your life…maybe you could get her to make the food so that she isn’t quite as empty-handed, hmm?” before any of us could respond, she spun around and walked away. I. Was. Mortified. “Ignore her,” I hurriedly said, but both Conrad and Callum smiled. “No, I think that’s a brilliant idea. Cal and I aren’t the best cooks…we would’ve just ordered something but if you don’t mind cooking up a storm…then we’ll happily include you,” Conrad said, and my heart melted. Just the littlest bit.
