Taylor looked at Lucy, confused as to what the woman wanted. She flipped through her book and checked her schedule for Amber. The day was almost over and she had no one scheduled for the rest of the day.
"I really can't find you on the meetings list, Lucy." She smiled apologetically. "Are you sure you have a meeting with Amber today?"
"It's not a meeting. It's more, uh let's say personal in nature." Lucy held up the box of doughnuts. "I was hoping to get her to go on a date with me. I want to try and bribe her with these."
"Oh. Let me just check if she has a moment."
"I could just surprise her."
"I'm sorry, but no. Just hold on a second." Taylor dialed the extension to Ambers office.
"Yes, Tay?"
"I have Lucy here at my desk, she wants to see you." Taylor listened then nodded. "I know, but she says..." She gasped when Lucy took the phone out of her hand.
"Amber." Lucy purred. "I just wanted to bring you up some doughnuts."
"I don't really have time now," Amber replied.
"It's going to take a minute or two. That's all." Her grin widened as she listened to the answer. "On the way up." She handed Taylor the phone and grinned. "Thanks."
Amber had her bag packed and was ready to leave. She wondered why Lucy wanted to bring her doughnuts all of a sudden. She hardly ever spoke to her when she went into the shop. What could the woman possibly want from her?
"Amber." The silky voice said from the doorway. "I am glad I caught you." She gestured to Ambers bag on her table. "I see you're on your way." She walked to Ambers desk, set the box down, and leaned over the table. Her breasts pulled her shirt open, displaying her cleavage.
"Yes, I have a dinner date. So if you don't mind, we need to rush this a little. How can I help you?" She gave Lucy the once over and admitted the woman was beautiful. But she didn't move Amber as Sam did.
"A date? Oh no!" She pulled her lips into a pout. "And here I was hoping you'd go on a date with me." Leaned over more and trailed a finger down Amber's arm and between her fingers. Amber shivered. The touch, unexpected.
"Uh, I will have to take a rain check." Amber pulled her hand out of reach and stood. She didn't have time for games. "Why are you really here Lucy?"
Lucy pulled back and smiled. "I've watched you, you know when you came into the shop. And I never have the nerve to ask you on a date. And word is that you are hanging out with our Alpha. I was scared that I missed my chance. So here I am." She smiled. "Please go on a date with me?"
"I don't..." Amber began but Lucy interrupted.
"Just coffee, or even breakfast. Nothing huge. Please?"
"Okay. Fine, how about tomorrow morning? We can meet at the coffee truck in the park."
"Yes! That's perfect. I'll see you there then." Lucy stiffened a second before Sam appeared in the doorway. "Alpha? What brings you in today, Amber doesn't have any more meetings today."
"Lucy," Amber said. "That's not your business." She gestured to Sam. "Sit, I'm just going to walk Lucy out." She put a hand on Lucy's back and steered her out the door to the elevator. "I'll see you tomorrow morning." Before she realized the woman's intentions, Lucy leaned in and kissed her cheek.
"Tomorrow."
Stunned, Amber turned and saw Sam watching from her office door. "What's tomorrow?"
"A coffee date."
"You're going on a date with her?" Sam asked.
"It's coffee, Sam." She shrugged and grabbed her bag. "Look, I want to go shower and change. Did you need something?"
"I thought I could ride with you. My bodyguard is downstairs. Groveling for her life." She grinned. "Mya messed up last night and she wanted to make it up to Taylor."
"Thank god! I didn't get the impression that Tay would have the guts to talk to Mya." She smiled. "If you don't mind waiting for me at my place, I don't mind giving you a ride."
"No problem. Mya needs all the help she can get. Sometimes love makes a person crazy. Did Taylor tell you what happened?"
"Yes, I hope that I read it right and it was just a misunderstanding between the two." Sam followed her out of the office to the elevator.
"I think so. Mya cares deeply for Taylor." She shrugged. "I think she just has to figure out how to handle what she needs. You know, the overwhelming need she has for Taylor. And they need to talk."
"Yes. Communication is always key." They walked out of the elevator and froze in their tracks. Mya had Taylor pinned to her desk. Their lips and arms locked tight. "Let's just sneak past," Amber whispered. A smile in her eyes and voice. They laughed when they stopped next to the car.
"I guess they made up." Sam eyed the car. "Okay, please! I am on my knees here! Let me drive?" The black mustang was a work of art and Sam could already feel it purring under her hands. Amber looked at her over the roof of the car. A slow smile spreading on her lips.
"On your knees?" She laughed when Sam's eyes widened in shock. "I'm joking! Here." She tossed Sam the keys. "You scratch, you pay."
"Really?" Sam laughed. "Oh man, get in and put your seat belt on!" She ran around to the driver side and climbed in. "Oh my god." She groaned deep in her throat and ran her hand over the steering wheel. Amber watched her and swallowed. The throaty moan had gone straight to her core.
"Just drive. And be careful." She said and sat back to enjoy the ride home.
"I need one of those!" Sam said as she handed Amber the keys back. "I swear I am close to orgasm right now."
"What?" Amber chocked out. She opened her door and walked in.
Sam laughed. "Come on, you know what an orgasm is right?"
"Yes, of course, I do." She shook her head. "There's beer and juice I think. Help yourself. I'll be quick." Sam's laughter followed her all the way to her bedroom.
She found Sam sitting on her couch a beer in hand. "Good to go." Sam looked over her shoulder and swallowed.
"Good is an understatement." She stood and walked toward Amber. The need to kiss her so intense it burned in her belly. "I'm going to kiss you."
"Sam." Amber took a step back, the fire in Sam's eyes warming her from her toes up.
"I'm going to kiss you," Sam repeated. "Unless you tell me to stop." She stalked Amber. Amber backed up until her back hit the wall behind her. "Tell me to stop," Sam growled. She put her hands flat on the wall on either side of Amber's head.
"I don't think this is a good idea," Amber whispered.
"Don't think. Tell me to stop. Or kiss me back." Sam said. One hand trailing a finger down Amber's cheek. She started to lower her head and felt Ambers hand on her chest. She knew Amber could feel her heart racing.
"Wait." Amber curled her fingers in Sam's shirt. The heartbeat under her palm matched her own. She wanted the kiss, needed it. She could already taste it. She watched Sam watching her. Waiting for her decision and felt her resolve melt. "Fuck." She swore and closed the space between them.
It was an explosion. Colors. Sounds. Something inside Sam felt like it was breaking. Amber's hands were in her hair, holding her close, pulling her away. Sam slid her knee between Amber's thighs and lifted her feet off the floor. Ambers sharp intake of breath was like an arrow to her core. Sam moved her hands down Amber's sides and slid warm hands under her shirt, touching warm flesh. Amber's eyes shot open.
"Sam no." She shoved her hands between them and pushed at Sam. "Sam."
"Okay." Sam rested her head against the wall next to Ambers. "Okay. Hold on. Just hold on a second." Amber ran her hands up and down Sam's back. "Okay don't do that." She bit out a strangled laugh. "That's not helping."
Amber laughed too. "Then move." But she waited for Sam to get her control back. "You okay?"
"I think so. You?"
"I think so too." She swiped her thumb over Sam's lip. "I bit you."
Sam frowned and ran her tongue over her lip. "You did."
"Sorry."
"Oh no. Don't say sorry. Just tell me when I can do that again?" Sam took a step back when Amber looked away from her. "Ah." She pulled all the way back.
"Sam wait."
"No, I'm sorry. That shouldn't have happened." She turned. "We should go. My mom will be wondering where we are."
"Sam." Amber grabbed her hand. "Can we talk about this later?"
"Why? It was obviously a mistake, right?" Amber straightened.
"Right." She went to her bag and took her wallet out. Then grabbed her key. "You're right. We should go."
Sam searched for something to say to fix the atmosphere between them, while Amber drove them to her mom's house. She couldn't find anything that made her feel better. Or anything that didn't sound stupid. How was it that she could give Mya advice but when she needed it she was a complete blank? Sam just hoped her mom wouldn't notice anything.
