"Her lips were so soft," I murmur, touching my lips subconsciously.
"Brother, I suggest you keep your thoughts to yourself," Alec growled, his eyes flickering black every second. I watched as Asher kept his jaw clenched tightly. As much as he didn't want to admit it, I knew Vicky was driving him crazy already.
"Sorry," I mumbled, stuffing my hands in my sweater pockets. A tiny hand slithered its way to my hand. O looked down and saw a smiling Ashlyn and Brett in his carriage.
"We should go in now, classes start in 15 minutes," Ashlyn suggested and Asher nodded. We had gone out to lunch for some pasta. Ashlyn hated the spaghetti they served in the University cafeteria. Personally, I didn't taste anything wrong with it.
I opened the front door and Ashlyn went in first. Victoria's hypnotizing scent hit my nose and I searched frantically for her, my wolf on the edge. My eyes roamed around until they connected with Victoria's. Her gaze turned stone-cold but I licked my lips at the thought of her lips pressed roughly against mine again.
She analyzed the four of us but softened when she saw Brett fussing around. I ducked down to look at Brett. It was still such a pain to be this tall. His little chubby hand grasped my finger and a ghost of a smile trailed my lips. What would our child look like with Victoria? Or, would we have a child with Victoria? Would our future even hold Victoria or were we destined to be with Ashlyn? She wasn't our mate but she has been imprinted by us already. Only another Alpha could get rid of it.
I looked back at Vicky who was leaning close to the sectary. Asher and Alec also stared at her her eyes widening as the secretary whispered something in her ear. She narrowed her eyes suspiciously as the secretary before frowning and then settling on a fake smile. If I was naive then I would say that her smile was genuine but I could see through that plastered smile anywhere.
Her eyes flashed red and flickered over to mine. I glanced at my brothers to see if they noticed but they got distracted with Ashlyn. My head snapped over to her missing figure near the front desk. I only caught a glimpse of her before she disappeared around the corner.
"Alec," I leaned in the whisper to him.
"Yeah."
"We should follow Victoria."
He sighed, "We can't. We're with Ashlyn now. We can give Victoria her attention when it's her turn. Besides, Asher probably wouldn't allow it."
"Allow what?" Asher suddenly asked.
"Nothing," I muttered and we proceeded down the right hallway. Victoria disappeared around her somewhere. I kept straining my head to look for her but decided to use another tactic. "Why don't we go down this corridor."
Asher narrowed his eyes at me. "No. The way we're going now is the fastest towards the elevator."
"Since when you were Mr. Goody-two-shoes and want to attend class on time?" I smirked but he scowled in response.
"Asher, it'd be a great way to extend our legs and get some exercise." Ashlyn chirped. I frowned because lately she's been obsessed with getting the right amount of exercise and her diet. But I knew why she did so. She felt incompetent compared to Vicky.
Asher simply nodded but then a strong growl was heard and the building began to shake as an enormous crash was heard. My head snapped straight as I looked around for any danger. Ashlyn gripped the stroller tightly. Soon, students swarmed around us, evacuating the building. My thoughts only concentrated on Victoria. We have to find her.
Alec groaned at the same time I felt as though my neck had been snapped. My eyes connected with Asher and Alec's, we knew what was wrong. Victoria was hurt. We sniffed the air for Victoria's scent and found a fragment of it towards the left corridor. We bolted and Ashlyn grabbed Brett out of his stroller and scrambled after us.
My heart pounded in fear when we heard another loud crash. Where is the damn girl! She is definitely hurt because my back feels like it had been hit with brick walls. We stopped at an intersection but by this time every student had cleared out.
"Who...Are we looking for?" Ashlyn panted.
"Victoria," Alec responded desperately and pointed to the hallway at the right. Asher's eyes were widened in fear. We heard a sharp piercing scream. It sounded familiar. Too familiar.
My wolf cowered back in pain. I grasped my thigh, it felt as though it was burning. Alec was the first to move when we heard the second scream. There was no doubt now that Victoria was in danger. Too much danger.
I felt excruciating pain and clutched my abdomen as we ran. More screams followed and drifted in the air, hitting us like sharp knives. Something was happening to Victoria and we weren't going fast enough to find her.
We reached the study hall but the air was heavily scented with Victoria and blood. The blood belongs to Vicky. There was a huge hole on the left wall which was where the blood trail began. Ashlyn covered her mouth to keep from vomiting at the brutal way that Victoria's blood-covered every wall.
We felt as though we were in a trance. Our eyes not believing what was right in front of us. Victoria's battered body on a blood-soaked carpet. Ashlyn screamed in horror. But our eyes traveled to Vicky's wrist- engraved in it was Arail Swain's signature.
I ignored everywhere as I tried to hold Victoria in my arms. She responded with a scream so I let her go. I stroked her cheek with my hand, tears threatening to escape my eyes. This was painfully brutal to see. Your mate bleeding to death on the floor.
"Victoria?" I whispered.
She didn't make eye contact with me. She was staring past all of us. That is until her eyes shut. "VICTORIA!"
I felt my soul being yanked from my body. There was no doubt now that she was dead. My beautiful mate, dead. It seemed unrealistic. Her blood covered my clothing and I let out a whimper, crouch down to bury my head in her neck. She didn't have a pulse anymore. I struggled to breathe as I felt her heart stop and my tears fall freely.
Alec joined me sobbing. Asher fell on his knees, cursing himself and tugging brutally at his hair. Blood still flowed out of her but at this point, nothing could help. Her heart had stop beating. Which means that mine has as well, starting today.
I growled angrily when I saw her injuries. Swain will personally be bludgeoned to death when I get my hands on him. Because of him, Victoria was dead. "Victoria, please, don't do this," I tried pleading my Asher pulled me back slightly. It was useless. You can't bring someone back from the dead.
I cupped my eyes and sobbed freely. My soul had disappeared- my heart yanked out. My wolf howling in pain at the loss of his beloved.
"Victoria!" A feminine voice screeched. I turned my hand and saw Luna Jenna.
"W-what are you doing here?" Alec stammered through sobs.
"That doesn't matter now." She responded in a clipped tone but she still let alone tear fall. "Victoria, rise."
Rise? Victoria is dead. "She can't. She is dead!"
"I said, Victoria, rise." Luna Jenna extended an arm towards Victoria.
"What do you think you're doing?!" Asher growled.
"I thought you knew your mate well. Considering that only I can hear the faint beating of my daughter's heart." Luna Jenna stared us down.
"B-but we felt her heart stop," Alec reasoned.
"She feels dead but she is not as dead as she looks. You underestimate her power."
Immediately, a sharp intake of air was heard and my head snapped towards Victoria. Her eyes were wide opened and she sat up. I stared at her unbelievingly. My soul had been restored and my heart had been returned.
Vicky placed a hand on her head. "Thanks, mom. I forgot you could do that."
"What. Is. Going. On?!" Asher yelled.
They ignored us. "Vicky, if you do something like that again you will be grounded! But now we have to care for your injuries."
Vicky rolled her eyes as if it was the most casual thing to just die and revive. "I'm a grown woman. I can't get grounded!"
"Hush, child." Luna Jenna silenced her and placed a hand on her head. Victoria's injuries began to fade and she was slowly restored.
"Man, that was the most painful death ever. I forgot when was the last time I died. Must've been long ago because I forgot you could bring me back." Victoria stood up and brushed herself off. Even her clothes had been restored!
"Can someone please explain. One minute you died and now you're back?" I croaked.
"You make me sound so weak. But no, I'm still not immortal. I have a limited amount of times I can be revived and now I have only five chances left. That's due to the fact that I have an overprotective dad that had a witch place a blessing on me. Only my mom can revive me." Victoria came over to me and placed her forehead against mine. "See? I'm still here."
"YOU SCARED THE s**t OUT OF ME! COULDN'T YOU HAVE TOLD US AND NOW YOU'RE PRANCING AROUND as NOTHING HAPPENED? YOU'RE SO SELFISH!" Asher exploded in anger and relief but Vicky flinched.
"Would you prefer me dead or alive!?" She yelled back at Asher. He was wise to bite his tongue. At the same time, Ashlyn came flying in.
"I found help!" Four paramedics followed her in.
"No need, omega. My daughter is fully cured." Luna Jenna grinned and Ashlyn's jaw dropped when she saw a fully healed Victoria.
Vicky closed in on a blood-splattered wall. "Arail Swain will be back, Mom."
"We can protect you," Alec offered but Luna Jenna turned down the offer.
"No. I won't punish Victoria by having her deal with Mr. You're so Selfish over there." Asher's faced flamed red. "Victoria, Sam's son, Dexter, will guard you from now on."
"Mom! Not Dexter! He's such a tease!" Victoria pouted but now my grief and relief had been replaced with jealousy.
"Who's Dexter?" I spat.
She raised her eyebrows. "My future beta and personal bodyguard from now on."
"I'm happy you agreed because he is here now," Luna Jenna sighed.
"Now?!" We all semi-shouted at the same time.
"What a nice Welcoming Committee, right Luna?" A tall, broad guy came into view. He had soft blond curly hair but he looked like some sort of greek god.
"You wish. I'm celebrating my rebirth." Vicky punched his shoulder. Dexter scrunched up his nose.
"That hasn't happened since the time you fell off that tree with me," Dexter responded. Great. Now I have to compete with a childhood friend. "Thanks for breaking my fall, by the way."
He flashed her a toothy grin but her features contorted in a scowl. "You're welcome." She muttered.
Dexter grabbed her by the legs and threw her over his should immediately. Alec, Asher, and I growled at him in response. Our wolves didn't like it one bit that another male was touching our mate. "I haven't done this since you went to study abroad, " Dexter laughed as Victoria squealed.
It stung how she opened up so easily towards him. Dexter began to walk away with Vicky still on his shoulder. In a flash, the broken walls and blood stains disappeared. "I suggest you carry on with your life with that, omega. My daughter has somebody new in her life. Someone who will care for her eternally." Luna Jenna purposefully spat those words so that they could get to us.
"Over my dead body," I growled lowly, thinking of all the possible ways to kill Dexter.
"Then I suggest you win Victoria's heart before he does. Starting by choosing. Either the omega or her." Luna Jenna turned her back on us and followed Dexter and Victoria.
"You won't get rid of me, will you?" Ashlyn squeaked.
"No."
