Devil vs Mermaid: War to be the God

Chapter :- 25.

Zene was sitting on the cliff, with sadness in her heart. She just had an argument with her best friend Micah. He also left the place angrily. Zene knows that she won't be able to see him for almost next 10 days because he already left for his mission. Usually he comes back after a week and stays on the island for another week. But this time there is an important role for him on the other borders, so it might take longer than usual. Zene was really worried to think about what will happen when he comes back. Would he forget about their fight and become friends again? Or will their friendship finally come to and end?

Half of the day passed by and Zene didn't move from her place a bit since that time. The pain on her heart was so over weighting her that she couldn’t pick her body up from that position. She wanted to cry badly, to forget the pain, but her promise was stopping her to. She couldn't think of any other way to calm her heart at that time.

All of a sudden she heard someone approaching her. She fixed herself quickly to not let anyone realize what happened in between those two. Plastering a fake smile on her lips, she turned around to find Erlik coming towards her. She instantly felt calm because Zene knows that she doesn't have to hide anything from him. He won't tell anything to anybody, because he has some secrets himself, similar to hers. So wiping down the smile from her face, she turned her head back in front.

“Hey… Everything okay?” Erlik came to her and sat beside Zene, on the same place Micah was sitting. He was also sitting close to her birth this time, Zene didn't move away.

“Yeah. Everything's fine.” Zene said with a slumped heart and sad tone.

“Well, it doesn't look like it. Tell me what happened?” Erlik said making Zene more sad.

“It's… It's nothing. I’m fine.” She lied to him as she felt the threat of tears coming again.

“You know you can rely on me. I promise I won't tell anyone. Tell me what happened, and you will feel better.” Erlik confronted her and it worked. Zene started telling Erlik, her hearts concerns.

“I think I just lost my best friend for ever.” Zene said looking at Erlik's heart.

“What? What happened? Did Micah do something to you?” Although Erlik knew Micah is the reason for her sadness, he acted like he doesn't know anything.

“We had a fight. He told me that he wants to be in a relationship with me. But I don't want to get in a relationship with him. He’s my best friend and I can't think of him any other way. When I told him the truth, he got angry at me and left me hear. This is the first time we had a fight. We are best friends since childhood and since all this year's , we never fought for once. I can't believe I really lost him.” Zene said, controlling herself from not to cry.

“Forget him. You don't need him. If he doesn't understand what you want, then he doesn't deserve a friend like you. Don't be upset for him.” Erlik said, slowly taking her hand in his. Zene didn't give any reaction to his touch because at that moment, she needed some moral support.

“You don't understand. He’s a really important person for me. Since my childhood, Micah was the one with whom I can talk too freely. You already know that my sisters aren’t exactly nice to me and Kally is really young and innocent to understand my feelings. Micah was the only mature person to whom I can tell all my feelings. I had a different type of connection with him, which he didn't even realize himself. I really need him.” Zene said as her voice started choking with each sentence.

“You don't need him anymore. I’m here now, and I will try my best to fill the void Micah left on you. I will become the friend you need. Do you trust me?” When Erlik said that, Zene looked up at his eyes to understand what he was saying.

Zene thought for a minute before giving her answer. Although he is trying to support her in her hard time, still he is a devil in kind. And she always heard from her elders, never to trust a devil. Before giving him a reply, she reminded herself all those times they spend together. All those times he helped her in need. His kind behavior to her and her sisters. The respect Erlik always shows to her parents. Not only that but, he also kept her secret safe as she asked for. Erlik has none of the descriptions to be called a devil. So Zene thought that he can be trusted as a friend.

“Yes. I trust you.” as soon as Zene said that, Erlik's heart filled with joy. He became happy to think that if Zene starts trusting him, she would fall for him very soon. He would make sure she falls in love with him.

“Then there're no problems to give me the place of your best friend. From now on you can tell me everything and I will tell you about my feelings too. And it will be only our secret. To start it off, we are already hiding each others real identities. So what more can there be?” Erlik said, finally making Zene laugh. It amazes her that, how Erlik always makes it look so simple.

“Thank you. Thank you for everything. It really did calm me. I’m lucky to have you as my friend.” Zene said with a sweet smile. But in return, Erlik instantly hugged her.

“It's okay. Everyone needs a person to share their thoughts and feelings with. I’m the luckiest one to get you because before you, I never had a friend to share my problems with. You are my lucky charm.”

It melted Zene's heart when she heard that Erlik never had a friend before. She instantly understood that Erlik had a rough childhood then hers. So except of pushing him away, she closed the hug more. She was really enjoying the warm embrace the devil, as Erlik was enjoying the soft skin of that Mermaid's body. They both felt completed when they were with each other. After staying in that position for a while, they finally broke their hug. Both of them were satisfied by that affection. Zene's sadness was long forgotten, leaving only a little hesitation. She didn't know what to do after returning to her home.

“Want to go back to that palace together?” Erlik asked her to break the silence between them.

“No. I’m not ready yet. I don't know what to tell to my parents about this incident.” She told him the truth.

“Don't worry. They are adults. They know, not to interfere in their kids life unless it’s necessary. And if they asks, you don't have to tell them the complete truth. Just tell them that he left for his mission. That's it..” Erlik said making it easier than Zene was thinking.

“Yeah. You are right. I can do that.” She said while nodding her head and giving a satisfied smile.

“So do you wanna go now?” He asked again.

“Not yet. I want to stay here for a bit more. Will you stay here with me for few more moments?” Zene's sudden request made Erlik happier than ever. He is getting invited to spend time with his love, without asking for it.

“Of course. It will be my pleasure to accompany you.” Erlik said giving his charming smile, for which Zene felt a little tickle in her stomach.

“So, this is one of your favorite places isn’t it?” Erlik asked showing her the surrounding.

“Yes. I like the view from here. And it’s really peaceful place.” Zene said looking around her and taking a deep breath to fill her lungs with the fresh air that surrounds this place.

“To tell you the truth, I’m a bit terrified of this place after that incident. I almost died that day.” Zene chuckled out loud to hear Erlik's reply.

“It was your own fault. Who told you to jump of a cliff to prove yourself. What did you gain from that silly stunt?” Erlik kept looking at the smiling face of Zene while she was informing him about his stupidity.

“You.. I got you because of that action.”

Erlik's answer stopped Zene’s smile immediately. But in the next moment it got replaced with a blush that she tried to hide from him. It proved to Erlik that Zene does have feelings for him, which she hided from him till now. She was also bounded by the same rules that Erlik followed till now. Never fall for a devil. But now all of those rules would be broken. Erlik already fell in love with a Mermaid, and he would make sure she would also accept the love with a Devil.

“Where's Kally? Haven't seen her with you for these days” Erlik askedthe question he wondered, whenever he saw her alone or just with Micah.

“She’s growing up now. It's time for her to understand the world on her own. She's way too innocent to stay without our parents or me. After Sylvia's coronation, they will be promoted to the Olympus and leave us here. She needs to live on her own just in case I am not around. And besides, my sister's hate her because she roams around me all the time and I’m sure they won't accept her with them. That's why I asked her to stop following me. I will take care of her as long as I can. But just in case, I die or something, she need to learn to survive on her own.” Zene told him everything, changing the mood into a serious one again.

“Hey, why are you saying it like that? You're not going anywhere, leaving us behind. You will stay with us forever.” Erlik said, caressing zene’s cheek carefully.

“We are mortals. We don't have the power to live forever unless we became the gods. There’s a huge chance for us to die before our time…” Erlik closed Zene's mouth with his palm, before she can finish her speech.

“Stop it. Don't say it again. You are a really special person to few of us. There’s no way, we are going to let you go this easily. If any danger comes to you, you would find me standing right in front to protect you. And that's my promise to you.”

Erlik emotional words made Zene almost frozen. This is the first time someone took such big oath about protecting her. She felt loved more then ever. Those feelings for Erlik, that Zene hided in her heart, started coming out slowly. She felt herself that she's falling in love with this Devil.

“Maybe we should get back now. It's going to be dark soon. I'm out of the house the whole day. Mother and father would be worried.”

Zene stood up from her place to avoid the urge she was having, to kiss Erlik. Not only her, but Erlik was also having the same intentions as her. To stop themselves from showing any sudden affection, they decided to get back to that palace. Zene started walking in front while Erlik was following her right behind. But the urge he was having, was forcing him to get close to her. To control himself and to get close to Zene, he went near him and took her hand in his. Zene immediately looked up at Erlik understand the reason for his sudden touch, making him scared about being scolded and left her hand.

“I’m… I’m sorry. I thought to walk until the end of the forest, holding hands. That’s what good friends usually do…” Erlik said, scratching the back of his neck.

Zene blushed to see his silly reaction. It’s not like she didn't like Erlik's touches, and she would also like to hold his hand. If he expresses it as a friendly affection, then there’s no problem to do that. So, without thinking much, Zene took Erlik's big hand into her small ones and started walking. Erlik was a little stunned to see Zene holding his hand herself, but soon became happy about it. He became relaxed to think that she's falling for him, without him trying hard for it.
