Catarina’s POV
I woke up the next morning feeling even more confused. I couldn’t get the twins out of my head, but, I wanted to take them down.
Mr. Whiskers jumped up on the bed with me and rubbed his face on mine, and started purring. I started petting him and he just laid down with me.
“Mr. Whiskers, I need to call Jeff at leadership. He will help us, maybe know what is going on with the twins.”
Jeff had been like a second father to me growing up. He had been my dad’s best friend, and he really helped me cope with his death.
I pushed Mr. Whiskers off me and rolled to my bedside table. I grabbed my phone and dialed his number and waited for him to answer.
“Cat, do you know what time it is?” He said, answering the phone.
“It’s eleven, plenty late enough.”
“Ok fine, what’s up?”
“Well, I have a problem.”
“Are we talking about a boy who broke your heart and I need to kill him and bury his body or like you’ve been captured at work and I need to come to save you,” he said laughing because we both knew I wouldn’t let a boy break my heart.
“Well, I haven’t been captured, obviously, but I met some mutts last night and there was a set of twins who took an interest in me. The weird thing was they didn’t smell like wet dogs, but I know they were werewolves.” I explained to him.
“What did they smell like, then?”
“Pine and rain showers, I mean I could smell wet dog, but it was barely there, and I had to really concentrate on it.”
“Did anything else happen?”
“Nothing much besides saying they had to know who I was.”
“I have some thoughts, but need to confirm some things.”
“Ok.”
“You need to be extra careful. I wouldn’t be doing anything right now.”
“Well, I have a daytime scouting trip planned on Friday.”
“I’m coming with you.”
“Ok, we leave before the sun’s up on Friday.”
“I will call you later,” he said, hanging up.
After getting all the way out of bed and I headed toward the kitchen. I needed coffee. I also needed to call Ivy and make sure she is OK.
I dialed her number while I walked to the kitchen.
“Hello!” she answered, way more bubbly than she would normally be.
“You ok?” I asked her.
“Cat, I’ve never been better. I took RJ home last night and holy f**k, he is a God in bed. I’ve never had so many orgasms and his size. It was f*****g huge.”
“Ivy, you need to stay away from him. He is trouble. I can’t tell you how I know, but please trust me on this.”
“Stay away, hell I never want to leave his side. I will gladly die by his hands so long as he gives me orgasms.” She said, laughing.
“Ivy, I’m being serious. He is dangerous.”
“Either tell me what is going on or I’m going back to bed and going to see how many orgasms I can get him to give me.”
“Ivy please, I’m not kidding. He is dangerous.”
She started giggling and then heard him say, “if you want more orgasms, then all you have to do is ask and your wish is my command.”
“Ivy, listen to me, please, he is dangerous.”
“Sorry Ivy is busy now, but if you think I’m dangerous then, by all means, come over and check on your friend but I would knock first, don’t want to see her getting filled up by me,” he said into the phone laughing and then hung up.
I was torn. I wanted to go over there, but it involved a human. f**k it. She was my best friend. I tore into my closet looking for my boots and threw on pants and a top. Threw my knives in my boots and grabbed my pistol, and made sure I had bullets in it.
Running out to my car, I jumped in and sped to her apartment complex. I ran up to her door and started banging on it. On the other side, I could hear her laughing. I had my gun in the waistband of my pants and waited as I heard someone coming to the door.
The door flew open and there stood that damn mutt I talked to on the phone.
“You need to leave and leave my friend alone unless you want to be looking down the barrel of my gun mutt.”
He looked back at Ivy and smiled before leaning in closer to me.
“Your cute short stuff but you really don’t scare me,” he leaned back smiling at me after saying that.
“It really should when they’re pure silver bullets,” I said as I reached behind me and placed my hand on my gun, not sure of what his reaction would be.
“Who the f**k are you?” He asked, surprised at my knowledge of him and silver.
“Your worst nightmare. Now leave her alone.”
He turned his back towards me and walked to Ivy and gave her a kiss, and whispered something in her ear. She laughed, and he turned to leave, shooting daggers at me the whole time.
He walked out the door and slammed it when he left. I knew this wasn’t over between us and he would not take my warning seriously.
“What the hell, Cat?” Ivy yelled at me.
Shit, I was going to have to tell her the truth. What he was and what I was and that I wanted nothing more than to kill him.
“Earth to Cat, mind telling me what the f**k you’re doing?” She said, snapping me back out of my thoughts.
I reach behind me and pulled my gun out and emptied the bullets.
“Cat, you're seriously starting the freak me out. Why do you have a gun?”
“The world you live in is not what you think it is.”
“Obviously, you just showed up and ran the best s*x of my life off and you have a f*****g gun.”
“If I just told you he is dangerous and asked you to leave him alone, would you?”
“I need to know what kind of danger we’re talking about.”
“Like you can easily die.”
“What makes him so dangerous?”
I looked down, wondering how I could explain this without telling her what I was. I was going to have to wing it.
“Listen Ivy, he is a werewolf and he will easily kill you. They are wild animals and are uncontrollable.”
She just laughed and laughed.
“You’re funny. I thought something was seriously wrong. I thought maybe he was like a mafia boss or something.”
“Ivy I’m not kidding.”
“You’ve never been jealous of the guys I bring home before, but is that what is going on or something?”
“No, I’m trying to protect you.”
“I think you’re losing it or something. Go home and sleep some.” She said, getting up from the couch and walking to her room.
“Ivy, please, I’m begging you,” I yelled at her.
“Don’t be jealous that I had the best s*x ever and go get some for yourself,” she yelled back, and then I heard the shower click on.
I grabbed my stuff and left. I was going to have to take him down before he comes back for her. The problem was, it would have to be done in his human form because I didn’t know what his wolf form looked like.
I got home and called Jeff again.
“What’s wrong now?” He asked.
“Well, there were a couple of guys from last night and one of them went to my best friend’s house and they’re sleeping together. I may have gone over there and threatened him and told her what he is.”
“Damn it Cat. You know better. We need him out of the picture and now.”
“I know and we have to take him out in human form, as we don’t know what his wolf looks like.”
“f**k Cat, what were you thinking?”
“I know I’m sorry. I wanted to protect my best friend.”
“I know. Get dressed were doing recon. Be there in twenty.”
He hung up on me, and I just groaned. Knowing what I needed to do, but damn it, I didn’t want to. I headed into my bedroom when someone knocked on my door. I grabbed my gun and looked through the peephole. It was a flower delivery guy. I swung the door open.
“Are you Cat?” He asked.
“Yes.”
He handed me a large vase filled with flowers, turned, and handed me another. They filled one with roses and daisies and the other with roses and lilies. Thanking him, I shut the door. Walking over to my kitchen counter, I sat the flowers down and pulled the cards off and took them to the couch to see what they said. I sat down and took a deep breath before I opened them. I knew who they were from and I wasn’t sure what I was going to do.
I opened the first card, reading it carefully.
Baby, we got off to a rough start. Let us start over and show you what a gentleman we can be.
-Dax
I opened the second card, knowing it would be from Axel. It read,
Meet us for dinner at six pm on Thursday at The River.
-Axel
I was sitting there and kept reading the cards over and over when there was another knock at the door. It startled me and I dropped the cards.
“Cat, it’s me. Open up,” Jeff said from the other side.
I got up and opened the door. Had it been twenty minutes already? I wasn’t ready to go.
“You don’t look ready,” he snapped at me.
“Sorry I got sidetracked. I will go change. Come in.” I told him as I turned and headed toward my room.
I went in real fast and threw on my camo and boots. I made sure my knives were still in my boots and grabbed my gun and bullets. Five minutes later, I went back out into the living room and found Jeff reading the cards I had dropped on the floor.
“What the hell is this?” He asked, holding up the cards.
“They sent flowers with those cards. I don’t even know how they figured out where I lived.”
“You can’t stay here. It’s too dangerous.”
“I will be fine. Can we please just go take care of this guy that Ivy has been sleeping with?”
“Yes, and then we are going to talk about you staying here and those two that sent those flowers.”
I just nodded my head and walked out of my apartment. We went and got into his car.
“Do you know where to go?” I asked him.
“Yes, I brought my long-range rifle. We are going to set up on top of a mountain and wait for them to train, and you will take the shot.”
I didn’t acknowledge him. Something didn’t feel right about this. I had never had problems with killing a werewolf, but this didn’t feel right to me. He drove for about an hour when he finally pulled over on the side of the mountain.
“There, we should be able to see from here. You know you are going to have to take the shot. I don’t know what this guy looks like if we see him.”
“I figured.”
We got out of the car and sprayed ourselves just to be safe, and he grabbed his rifle and handed it to me. I threw it over my shoulder and we took off. We walked about a half mile and found a spot that looked like it would work. Jeff sat down and opened up his backpack and pulled out some binoculars and handed them to me. We both lay down and started scanning the area. It was a nice bright sunny day, so spotting anyone wasn’t hard.
“Hey, I have two wolves out running. We can easily take them out,” Jeff said.
He reached over, took the rifle, lined it up, and made two quick shots.
“Done. Do you see the guy you’re after?” He asked me, putting the rifle back down.
“They are some moving back onto the field. I am waiting to see if I can see him.”
I continued to watch through the binoculars and finally found him. He was with some others and they were laughing and joking around.
“Got him,” I told Jeff.
I laid the binoculars down and picked up the rifle. Looking back into the scope, and found him again. I knew as soon as I pulled the trigger we would have to run because they would head this way, but we were in a car and wouldn’t catch us. This was a public road and daylight. They couldn’t do much. I was about to pull the trigger when Dax walked into view. My heartbeat picked up, and so did my breathing.
“Cat, do you have him? We are going to have to move out soon.”
“Yes, give me a minute.”
I took a deep breath and got him back into my sight and made sure that no one else was could get hurt and pulled the trigger. The gun kicked into my shoulder. I knew this would leave a bruise, but I would heal.
I watched through the scope and saw him drop to the ground and grab his chest. Everyone around him either scattered or ran to his side.
“We have to move out now,” Jeff yelled.
We grabbed everything and jumped in the car and he took off.
“Great shot kid.”
