Chapter 6

Dax's POV Axel and I agreed that we would both send her flowers and she would have to read both cards. One was an apology from me and one from him asking her to dinner. Hopefully, she showed up. We didn't have a number to reach her. I wanted to send someone to watch her and make sure she was OK, but Axel said we needed to give her space since she knew what we were. He didn't want to come on too strong. I went outside to see how training was going today. Wyatt usually ran it but I liked to check in on it from time to time. As soon as I got onto the field, I found RJ, Curz, and Wyatt talking about last night. "Hey, guys, how did it end up going last night?" I asked them, but before anyone could answer, blood went spraying out of RJ and he fell to the ground grabbing his chest. I dropped to my knees and threw my hands over the area that had blood coming out of it. He was unconscious and bleeding heavily. Cruz and Wyatt bent down at the same time. "He needs the doctor and we need to get everyone to safety and I want trackers out looking for whoever did that," I shouted. "I am on it Sir," said Richard. I am not sure where he came from but he would take care of things. He may have been an asshole who we didn't like, but he was good in these situations. Wyatt, Cruz, and I lifted RJ and took off toward the pack hospital. We ran in and the doctor and nurse were waiting for us with a gurney. They took him back and left us standing there. I had sent a mind link ahead of time telling them to be prepared. We all turned and went back outside. Axel was out on the field talking with some of the warriors that had been there. "What the hell happened? How is he?" He asked as soon as I got over there. "I don't know. We were standing here and he just dropped to the ground and blood started spraying everywhere and we just rushed him to the hospital." "Trackers out there?" "Yes." "OK, go get cleaned up and I will secure the border while we wait for the trackers to get back." I just nodded and walked off to my room. I got up there and got out of my bloody clothes and turned on the shower. "It's a hunter. It has to be," linked Rocky. 'We haven't seen a hunter since we killed that one and Richard sent it back to them. However, I am still not sure how he got his address," I linked back. "They want revenge for killing him. I would for what you guys did to that guy." "Not us, that was all Richard. It was a little overboard but I got it. The hunter killed his mate. That's why we allowed him to do what he did." I cut our link and jumped out of the shower and threw on some clothes and headed back downstairs and to the field to see if they had figured anything out. I walked out there and saw Axel and Richard talking. "What did you guys figure out?" I asked as I got up there. "We are guessing they were up on the top of the mountain up there, based on where RJ was standing and where he got shot at," Axel said. "That's a long shot. They would have to be an excellent marksman and also have the right type of rifle," I said. "We know. The trackers are on their way back," Richard said. "That was fast," Axel said. We stood there waiting for them to come back and when we finally saw them coming into the open field they were carrying two people with them. What the hell is going on? I thought. We took off towards them. When we got up to them, we saw they had two Omegas that had been shot. Probably in wolf form. If you died in wolf form, you would shift back into your human form for identification and burial. They placed them on the ground. It was a young couple that had mated about a year ago. They didn't have any children, and thanked the goddess. "Sirs, we found these two on our way back. We got up to the area where the shot had to come from. We found where they were lying as the weeds were still lying on the ground, but it was weird, there was no scent. We couldn't scent them at all. We also found tire tracks and we followed those to the main road where it turns to asphalt so we couldn't follow it any further." "There was no scent at all?" Axel asked. "No sir." "It had to be hunters. Another pack would just attack and rouges don't have the financial means to get that kind of set up." I said more to myself but they all heard me. "Axel, let's go check on RJ and see if there is an update on him." "Richard, please get patrol doubled. We want to be extra vigilant right now. I will have someone come to care for these bodies and we will inform the family soon." I said. We walked to the hospital and waited for the doctor to come out. We waited for several hours when the doctor finally came out covered in blood. "How is he, Doctor?" Axel asked. "He is alive but he was shot in a critical spot and the bullet was pure silver. It's going to be touch and go for a while." "Thanks and please be sure to keep us up to date," I said. We turned and walked out to try and figure things out. Five days later and it was finally time for our date. RJ was still in critical condition and we still didn't know if he was going to make it. We went by every day to see him. His parents were there along with his brother and sister. I feel bad for them that we can't give them much help right now. We continued to look for the hunter but we didn't have any leads. We also informed and buried the two omegas that were killed. I was finally ready and headed downstairs to wait for Axel but he was down there already. "Good news man, RJ is awake and looks like he is going to make a full recovery," Axel said. "That's fantastic. Hopefully, when we come home tonight he will tell us if he knows of anything that could be useful." "We should let him rest and talk to him tomorrow," Axel said. "We can't. We leave first thing in the morning. We have to leave for the Queen's and King's annual ball." "Damn it, I forgot about that." "Ya but we will be back by Sunday night," I told him. "Let's go see if our little mate shows up," Axel said, grinning. We loaded into our SUV and headed toward town. It was a twenty-five-minute drive and we both sat there in silence. We got to the restaurant and went inside and were instantly escorted to our usual table. It just so happened that we owned the restaurant also. In fact, we owned most places in this town and the town we lived in and others as well. We also employed a lot of humans, keeping our pack members working within the pack and being able to pay them. We sat and waited hoping she would show up. It was fifteen minutes after six and she wasn't here yet. "What do you want to do, Axel? She isn't here, and don't think she is going to show," I asked him. "We do know where she lives. We could just go visit her." "That might scare her off." "Might scare who off?" She asked, making both of us jump. How in the hell did she get in here and we didn't hear her or smell her? I still can't smell her, in fact. "No one. So glad you could join us," I said, standing to greet her. "I am really just here for one thing, boys," she said, sitting down. "Before we get into that, let's start with a drink," Axel said and called the waitress over. "You know our usual and for Miss Cat here," he said, looking at her. "A glass of white wine please." The waitress nodded and walked off. "Ax, can you smell her scent because I can't? Something is weird," I mind-linked him. "I can't smell her and neither can Skoll." The waitress came back and sat our drinks down in front of us. "Are you guys ready to order?" She asked. "Not yet, please give us a few minutes," I said. "Now boys, I don't know what you want with me, but it's probably a good idea that we just not," she said but looked a little sad about it. "Baby, I don't know if that is going to be something we can do. You see we want you, both of us," I told her, scooting my chair closer to her. Axel did the same thing and we were both sitting on each side of her as close as we could be. "I don't know what is going on here but seriously, this isn't a good idea," she said. I didn't reply but leaned in and kissed her neck and, finally, I was able to smell her but it was faint. I could barely make it out. As soon as I lifted my head, Axel did the same and she let out a little moan. That noise went straight to my d**k and it was hard. Harder than it had ever been. "First we are going to talk about what you know," Axel said. I could see his eyes flashing back and forth and knew that Skoll was trying to push forward. "I don't know what you're talking about." "Oh baby, I think that your lying to us and you know more than you are telling us." "Really I don't." "So you didn't wear your silver necklace for no reason and the bracelet is also silver and I am not sure what you used, but you've covered your scent. So how about the truth," I told her. "How about the guy that walked in behind you and is sitting by himself where he has a perfect view of us. Is that your boyfriend?" Axel asked. I looked up because I hadn't noticed that part of it but glad he did. This got her attention. I heard her heart rate pick up and she was looking down. She was getting nervous. "See baby, we know a lot also, but let's start with you. Is that your boyfriend?" I asked her. "I don't know that guy," she said with her heart rate picking up. "He means something to you though, doesn't he?" Axel asked. "I already said I don't know him." "Baby don't lie to us," I told her. "This is ridiculous, I am leaving," she said and started to stand up, but both Axel and I placed a hand on her bare leg. I could feel the sparks running up my arm and it was such an amazing feeling. I had felt it before with her but I didn't take a moment to really enjoy it. "My little kitty Cat, we're not done yet and you have yet to tell us the truth," Axel said to her. "Baby, tell me what you do for work?" I asked, trying to change the subject and see if she would lie about something as simple as that. "I work in marketing. What do you guys do?" She asked, but her heart rate picked up when she answered, and when she thought we had believed her, it slowed back down. "We are like a CEO. Now, how about you tell me what you really do because I think you are lying about being in marketing," Axel said. "As I said before, I think it's best if we leave each other alone, and I leave." She said taking her wine glass and finishing it in one gulp. "Give me your phone," Axel demanded. "No." "I want to give you my number and I want yours. This isn't over yet. We will be seeing each other again," Axel said with a low growl at the end. "No." I reached around her and plucked up her purse and grabbed her phone out of it. "Just open it, baby. Make it easier on yourself." She let out a huff and opened her phone and handed it to Axel, who plugged in his number and mine and then called himself with it, so we had her number. "Let's meet next week. We are headed out of town on business for the weekend but don't worry, we will text you or call you," I told her and winked at her. Axel and I got up and left her sitting there. We walked back out to the SUV and just sat in it and waited for her to come out of the restaurant. We wanted to make sure that she went home or if she went somewhere else. "Axel, she is lying about everything and I am not sure why." "I agree, but she is our mate. We need to give her the benefit of the doubt." "I have a bad feeling about something. Maybe we should put someone on her while we are gone." "No need. I can have someone hack into her phone and put in a GPS tracker that she will never know about. This way we will know where she is going, but I want to see if she leaves with that guy first." "Me too." We hadn't taken our eyes off the front door and twenty minutes later she walked out wiping her eyes. She had been crying about something but she did walk out with the man that walked in behind her. They were talking but didn't touch. They went their separate ways and got in separate cars. Axel pulled out a little ways behind her and followed her to a different place than her apartment. This was a little house. She got out and went inside. We sat there for a few minutes when the guy she was with pulled up and walked inside. "s**t, I know what she is and can't believe it has taken us so long to figure it out. We're stupid," I said. "It just dawned on me too, and your right we are stupid. How can we be mated to a huntress?" "What are we going to do? She is our mate. We can't kill her and were supposed to leave this weekend." "Well, good news you got your dates wrong and we leave next weekend. She thinks we're going out of town, so let's just see what she is going to do." "This is bad."
