I watched Carl as he rested his back, his fingers twirling around the rim of his wine glass. Amusement danced around his eyes, and I didn't want to see what would dance in those eyes if I didn't do as he said. I looked at Brian who was turning to us. He looked at Carl, then turned to me with a small wink. "I am sorry you lost your ring," he told me. "It probably just didn't fit your hand." It had a double meaning. He didn't like Carl with me. Hell, I didn't like Carl with me too, but we were just pawns here. The CEO didn't flinch, the small sly smile still plastered on his face. I looked at Brian again.
