Chapter 34

~ Princess Mylie’s PoV

“What did you do to me?” I heard Kelsey’s voice say as I entered my office, and I almost dropped the coffee and files in my hands at the shock.

“What?! How did you get in here, the door is still locked” I asked in astonishment, I had just opened the door to my office by myself, so how did she get in?

“Doesn’t answer my question” she replied instead, I saw her sitting on my table with her leg on my chair, her all black, guy’s clothes mode of dressing today declared her as the tom boy she was.

Her eyes were a bit sunken as if she didn’t get enough sleep, although that’s how she kind of looks all the time, thanks to excessive vampire genes.

“I don’t know what you’re talking about and since that’s settled do you mind telling me how you got in? Oh and please take your leg off my chair” I said as I closed the door and went to place the things in my hands on the table beside her.

I drew my chair closer when she took her leg off it and sat on it, I was flustered and I didn’t know why, I wasn’t feeling any offensively towards Kelsey, rather I was feeling shy.

“You do know what I mean” she said and got off the table, then she drew another chair and sat down facing me closely.

“Do you have to be this close?” I asked in a small voice and gulped, why was she interrogating me, she had won the fight hadn’t she, wasn’t that what mattered.

“Are you feeling guilt? I heard your voice and felt your touch, soon after I couldn’t feel the pain in my side anymore and I had the extra strength of three oxen, the dumb alpha wolf didn’t stand a chance, so what was it that you did?” she asked me again.

I pushed my chair back and stood up, facing away I replied “C’mon Kel, leave me be, I have a lot to do today, maybe you just didn’t realize you had that much strength or maybe it was even adrenaline or your vamp genes getting even more improved” I answered feigning being cross with her.

I felt her hands hold mine and I looked back, she had a softer expression on her face this time, and seeing her like that got my heart skipping beats.

“Believe me, whatever it was, I’m grateful for it, I didn’t know what cane over me to think I could take him in that state I was, although ordinarily I could have taken him was I not wounded, but then, you saved me with that touch of yours” she said still holding my hands, I had to look away from her.

“Because I definitely know it wasn’t me, but I understand that it’s your secret, you don’t have to tell me” she said and released my hand.

I caught her hand back before it slipped away and held it, “Hey Kel, you’re welcome” I said to her and smiled, she smiled back and gave a gentle squeeze of my hand.

Then she hugged me, affectionately, not the kind that ordinary friends give, I was so confused within me, how was it possible that I’m feeling this way to a fellow lady?

After she left, I couldn’t do anything else but think, about Mike, about her, about my kingdom in the deep, and about the night before.

Kelsey had really handed it to the alpha, the fight had been one sided with Kelsey having the upper hand even as the fight started.

When the fighting ended, the alpha was knocked out cold with broken arms and other ghastly wounds.

The six werewolves (the five that had come with the alpha and the one that had howled) had been shocked speechless, dumbstruck expressions on their faces.

“Pack up and leave, now!” Sarah had said sternly and they didn’t need to be told twice, they took up their wounded, including their alpha and left the grounds.

The experience had drawn all the fun out of the night so getting back to the crib we all just packed and left for Michelle’s place, besides who knew if there was still someone else the wolves could call to come.

I had been looking forward to seeing Michelle’s place and I’m sure it was magnificent, but I didn’t see it, I was in a daze by the time we got there in Sarah’s car, due to the spell I used on Kelsey which had been more that I thought it to be.

I crashed immediately after a warm shower and fell right asleep, I was still dozing when morning came and I had to get home to change and get ready for work.

It was midmorning b4 I arrived at work though and despite that Marvin had a hot cup of coffee waiting for me as promised.

And then the experience with Kelsey and although it had left me a bit rattled, it was still kind of pleasing.

A knock on my door brought me out of my thoughts, “Come in” I answered to the knock and Michelle came in.

I quickly stood up to welcome her, “Hey Mich!” I greeted with glee and hug her as she answered “Maya, how are you?”

She looked really beautiful, she must have been to the stylist and makeover artist, because she looked like a work of art.

“Well I’m fine, considering, oh wait did you see Kelsey?” I asked feeling they must have met each other on the way.

“Kelsey? No, I didn’t see her, where is she?” Michelle replied surprised.

“Oh never mind then, I thought you had seen her before coming here” I said covering for my lapse.

“Hmm, well ok fine, so I came to apologize, I’m so sorry for the way things went at the girl’s night out” she said sincerely remorseful.

She was sitting opposite direction from me, right where Kelsey had been moments before, I couldn’t help but smile at the realization that here on the surface, I was finally feeling like I belonged, I had made four friends just the night before and one might even be more.

“You don’t owe me an apology Mich, you don’t control the world, those events were beyond you or anyone else in fact, besides, despite it all, I had some serious fun yunno” I said to her beaming up in a huge grin.

“Really? That’s the way you feel?” she asked me to which I nodded. Then she stood and came to hug me to my chair before going back to seat on hers again.

“Oh but then, you can’t tell my brother that you got attacked under my watch ok?” she said and made a sympathetic face.

“What? Of course not, I wouldn’t dream of it” I assured her.

“Ok so tell me, why the experience of Victor Markham bad, we didn’t get a chance to talk about that, so talk to me” she said.

“Oh Mich, well, the experience wasn’t bad, it was the aftermath, I mean I actually enjoyed his company, but then getting home, your brother ate me out for doing it, he really hurt my feelings that day” I explained.

“But then I didn’t understand why because he had never shown such interest in me, why he was bothered I wouldn’t know, But I know it sure wasn’t because the Markhams are bad people, which I very well know they are” I finished.

Michelle looked at me with pity, “I’m really sorry you had to experience that you know, you see my brother, there are some things you should know about him” she stared to explain.

“He once had someone he loved with his life, she was human though, then he lost her, she died right in his arms, he felt like he had lost his life and fell into a bad place, he became distant, shut off from the world and withdrew into himself, he even tried to take his own life a couple of times and this brought dire consequences for him” She said explaining all there was to my Mike.

“You just have to understand, understand him and try to get him to adjust, change, and grow too, he also needs to safeguard his life now more than ever, any more death could leave him as like the turned vampires, bloodsuckers or worse kill him off” she told me these and I actually now saw justification for Mike’s actions although that didn’t mean they’d be more bearable.

“Hmm… thanks Mich, I feel I understand more now that I know these things” I said to her.

After this we had some more gist and even planned another girl’s night for another date, then she left after lots of appreciation, she could already see me being with her brother, but was that vision that clear to me.

I sat back down and thought a bit more on the details I had just gotten concerning Mike, he must be scared to let himself go fall in love again, especially seeing as I am human as well.

I have my work cut out for me if I’m to in any way win him over completely.

Another knock brought me out of my thoughts and I groaned as I went to open the door, maybe it was Sarah this time, because I’m sure it can’t be Josey.

But as I opened the door and perceived his eau de Cologne, my eyes widened and I looked up to stare at the handsome face of Victor Markham.

“Hey Maya, have you been avoiding me? Don’t tell me you didn’t get all my emails and gifts, I'm sure I got their addresses right” he said to me smiling flirtingly.
