Charles’s POV
Lighting my cigarette, I shoved the lighter back into my pocket as I made my way down the alley, walking even deeper into the night.
It was late and almost everyone had called it a day but this was the only time I had to keep my head calm. Taking a big drag of my cigarette, I released the smoke and felt myself getting a little relieved.
I’ve had it up to the point that I can no longer take it anymore from my father. He had gone from being just annoying to being so annoying that the last person I want to see every day is him.
He wouldn’t stop talking about how being single was making me weak, how not taking a wife was going to make me lose the title that was rightfully mine.
I hated listening to him talk and today, like every other day he annoys me, he had set me up with a blind date for me and I’d ruined it.
“You keep up with this and I’m going to give your title to your brother!” He had yelled out of anger, making me even angry.
“You either choose one of the women I’ve picked out for you or go around in search of your own mate!” He added and we had a huge falling out.
I’d yelled at him and said things that I didn’t mean to him and he had threatened to give my brother who has been hungry for it since we were little, my title.
Sighing, lost in thoughts and taking another drag of my cigarette, I had no idea something was coming at me with full force.
I’d tried to avoid whatever it was but it was too late as the person came head on to me, I caught the frail figure in my arms.
“I’m sorry, I didn’t—“ I was trying to explain myself when I saw that not only had she passed out, she was also bleeding profusely.
“s**t! What the fuck.” I muttered as I dropped my cigarette on the floor and pulled off my jacket. She was pale, fragile and completely out.
Wrapping my jacket around her head since I needed to stop the bleeding before anything else, I picked her up and hurried back home with her in my arms.
Getting home, I laid her on my bed gently and carefully and for the first time in never, I found myself getting drawn to this strange woman.
Taking a closer look at her, I could tell from the streaks on her cheeks that she had been crying and judging by the wound on her, she probably came head on with a dangerous object but not on her own.
Someone probably did this to her.
“What were you doing out so late at night?” I asked even though I knew she wasn’t going to hear me.
My heart skipped a beat for the first time ever and I couldn’t stop staring at her. She had perfect and delicately carved facial bones.
Her face was irregular, it was arresting and I couldn’t help but think about how incredibly beautiful she looked even though she was out.
Oh, that’s right! She had passed out and I should do something about her.
Sighing, I had some medical knowledge so I started by cleaning off and dressing her wound. I needed to pull her clothes off but I couldn’t bring myself to.
I was also supposed to tell someone about her but judging from how fast she was running and these wounds, she probably didn’t want anyone to know of her whereabouts.
Struggling, I took off her clothes and that was the biggest mistake I could ever make. She wasn’t just facially gorgeous, everything about her was beautiful.
Her body was perfect and her body was as white as milk. Her faintly rosy mouth called out to me and it was all I could do to not heed to that call.
Her cheekbones were high and when I touched her face, I wished I could go back in time and stop myself from doing that because now I don’t want to stop touching her.
I trailed a finger down her face and was tempted to trail the lines of her exquisitely dainty nose.
“What are you doing?” She muttered and I hurriedly pulled my hand away as I stood from her side.
Really, what was I doing? I don’t know her and yet here I am being absolutely creepy and—
“I’m sorry, you passed out and I brought you here to take care of you,” I rushed the explanation out of my mouth.
“You should have a bath, the bathroom is right there,” I continued as I pointed towards the bathroom, “and when you’re back I can help you with your wound and then take you back home.” I finished.
I turned my back on her and waited for her to get out of the bed but she didn’t move. I turned back and was shocked to see her still lying on the bed.
Her eyes were closed and she hadn’t even moved a finger and that was when it dawned on me that she had been speaking unconsciously.
“What the f**k is going on with you, Charles?” I asked as I slapped myself. I tried to push my lustful thoughts to the deepest part of my mind as I made my way to the bathroom to get a bowl of water and a towel.
What am I doing? What is this feeling?
My heart was racing and every attempt to stop it from racing so fast kept failing woefully. I managed to clean her up and treat her without bringing it to anyone’s notice.
I wanted to take care of her more, I wanted to stay by her side and be there by the time she woke up but that wouldn’t be me.
I’m Charles and I can’t fall in love at first sight or ever fall in love with any woman regardless of how attractive she may be.
Taking a deep breath, I made my way out of the guest room and made up my mind never to go visit her until she’s ready to leave the house.
I was working to keep myself distracted but I couldn’t stop thinking about the unconscious woman in the restroom.
Why am I so heartless? I should stay with her, I should help her until she’s conscious again but my stupid ego won’t make me go near that door and I hate myself for that.
