As Melanie felt herself sinking deeper, her lungs crying for air, she felt a warm tingling sensation extend to her limbs. As adrenaline pumped through her body, her instincts kicked in, waking up her mobile body and she began kicking her way back to the surface. Spluttering and gasping in the ice-cold water, Melanie broke the surface used all her strength to keep afloat. She felt tears sting her eyes as the laughter of drunk people rang in her ears.
