Philip frustratingly pace back and forth inside the twin alphas’ office as the twins sat on the couch, glaring at him.
“Can you stop pacing?” Lykos asked.
“I can’t. I don’t know what to do in this situation.” Philip paused and looked at the twins.
“I haven’t seen my mate yet. This pull, it’s killing me. I need to be with her.” He said and then the twins glared at him.
“Our mate will kill you if you try and approach them,” Lykos said.
“And we will kill you if you dare to touch our daughter,” Lynox added.
Philip stopped pacing and glared back at the twins.
“I will never hurt her, she’s, my mate.” He hissed.
“Yeah, and she is our daughter.”
“Our newborn daughter!”
“You are basically her great-great-great ancestor.”
“You are so old compared to her. It’s pedo!”
The twins hissed back.
Then Philip crossed his arms over his chest.
“It’s not like I asked to be paired with a baby! I waited for my mate and now that she is here, I will make sure to love her and cherish her! I am no criminal who will take advantage of her!” Philip retorted.
The twins narrowed their eyes on him and then they move in sync, leaning back against their chair as their eyes turned icy blue.
“Lord Philip, our daughter was just born. For now, you are not allowed to touch her and be near her unless it’s necessary.” Lykos said, his strong aura sips through his every word.
“What? That’s ridiculous!” Philip growled.
“We are her father, Lord Philip. You can only be near her as an elder and not as her mate, and you cannot tell her she is your mate until she comes of age.” Lynox added with the same intensity as his twin.
Philip felt frustrated at what the twins asked of him.
“No.” he pressed.
Lykos leaned forward, plopping his elbows on the table, narrowing his eyes on the wolf elder.
“You know we can make you submit to what we want, right?” he said.
Philip clenched his teeth.
“Just see the situation from our perspective, Lord Philip. We are her fathers and we are protective of our offspring. It’s not like we are telling you to reject her or something,” Lynox told him.
Philip gritted his teeth as he knows he has no choice but to do what the twins wanted. He knows that even if he pressed on what he wanted, they can make him submit and compel him to do what they wanted. So, he decided to just be patient with the situation.
Days passed since the twins were born and yet Roe still hasn’t let anyone near her or her babies. Even Lykos and Lynox are longing to see their mate and children but every time they make an attempt, they were met by Roe’s flames.
Philip who was also waiting for the chance to see his mate ended up empty-handed. He was called back to Stone Castle and he had to leave with a heavy heart.
Roe’s protective mode grew worse when the twins were two weeks old. When rogues attack the pack and some of them tried to attack the infirmary building, it somehow activated the fury of the phoenix as she burned all the rogues that come within the premises.
She even transformed into her bird form which was twice the size of the form the pack has seen during their war against the tyrant alpha and the black witches. The whole pack has never seen their Luna like that, and they are both terrified and in awe. They are terrified that she can end everyone in just a flap of her wings, and in awe, because she is their Luna and she will protect everyone like she protects her offspring.
After that attack, the pack was silent once again and had the residents help each other fix all those that were destroyed. As for Roe, her protectiveness for her babies went on until the twins are one month old.
At one month, that was the only time Lykos and Lynox were able to go near their mate and babies. When Roe called for them, they dropped everything they are doing and run towards her.
They are still careful when they entered the room and their every movement was calculated and tried not to do any sudden movements. They immediately saw their mate seated on the edge of the bed feeding one of the babies, while the other one is in the crib.
When Roe noticed that they not approaching, she spoke.
“You can come. Just don’t make them cry.”
That’s when the twins quietly approach the crib with just a few strides. They first looked at the baby in the crib; it was sleeping soundly and the twins couldn’t help but let out a sigh while smiling.
The baby was so adorable while sleeping with its plump cheek pressed against the crib’s mattress. Then they turned towards the baby in their mate’s arms. Roe must’ve noticed them looking as she looked at them.
“This is Fiero. The one sleeping in the crib is Lysandra.” She told them.
“They looked so adorable.”
The twins cooed softly.
“They’ve grown so much.” Lynox said.
Then the twins looked at their mate.
“How are you, darling?” Lynox asked.
“You must be tired taking care of our little ones, love,” Lykos added.
Roe let out a sigh and then she stood up and placed the sleeping Fiero beside his sister inside the crib.
“I am fine as long as I am with my babies and no one else disturbs our safe haven.” Roe paused and then she leaned closer into the crib.
“Fiero gets quickly irritated by the things around him. He is quiet but he cries the loudest.” Roe said as she lovingly caresses baby Fiero’s cheek.
“How about our princess?” Lykos asked.
“Lysandra… I think she is too mature for her age. She only cries when she is hungry and needed a change of diapers. She just lay in the crib most of the time.” Roe answered.
“They are the complete opposite of each other,” Lynox said and Roe nodded.
“I’m pretty sure it’ll change once they are exposed to other people. They will adapt and grow,” she said.
“Do you know who is likely to become a bird and who is to become a lycan?”
Lykos asked and his twin looked at him before looking at their mate.
“Both are lycans, but only one inherited my powers,” Roe said and the twins looked at her confused.
“Since there could only be one Phoenix, which is me, I can only pass my powers to my offspring. She cannot turn into a bird but she can use the powers that I have.” She explained.
“She?”
The twins asked at the same time.
“Yes. It was Lysandra who inherited my powers.”
She said and the twins were taken back. Then they snickered.
“What’s wrong?”
“If our baby girl is like you minus the bird part, then…”
“The crypt keeper is in for a treat.”
The twins said and Roe rolled her eyes and then she let out an audible sigh.
“Lord Philip and I are friends but at this moment, I cannot let him get near our daughter.” She said.
“That’s what we said.”
The twins said in unison.
“But that doesn’t mean we can keep them apart. We just have to impose some rules and distance while Lysandra is growing. Once she is of age, she can decide on what she’s going to do with her mate.” Roe said and the twins’ shoulders sagged after hearing what their mate said.
“So, we’ll let our daughter be with the crypt keeper?” Lynox asked and then Roe looked at him.
“And why not? They are mates.” She said.
“But the age gap,” Lykos whined.
Roe looked at her mates and crossed her arms over her chest.
“So? They just have less than a millennium age gap, unlike us who have thousands of years apart. You two must have forgotten that when it comes to mates, age doesn’t matter. If the age gap is a thing, I wouldn’t mate with fetuses.” She pressed and the twins pouted.
“We’re not fetuses.” They whined.
“You are, compare to me.” She said and then she flipped her hair.
“Visit’s over. Leave.” She said, surprising the twins.
“What?”
They asked and Roe arched her eyebrow.
“You’re sending us away?” they asked.
“I thought we were going back home now.”
“I only said you can see the babies. I never said I am comfortable with you two around for more than thirty minutes. Your time is up.” She paused and then her eyes turned fiery orange.
“Leave.”
The twins could feel the phoenix aura sipping through Roe’s skin, and they had no choice but to agree on what she told them to avoid any unnecessary arguments or confrontations.
“Can we at least take a photo of them?”
They asked at the same time. Roe sighed and nodded.
“Be quick and no flash.”
She said and the twins nodded before they pulled their phones from their pockets and started taking photos of their adorable babies. When Roe is starting to get annoyed by the sound of the camera shutter, she scowled.
“That’s enough, leave,”
The twins blew their babies kisses before they left the room. And once they are outside the room, the door shut and locked behind them. The twins couldn’t help but let out a sigh of frustration. The infirmary staff seeing them couldn’t help but feel sorry for their Alpha for being thrown out of the room once again.
They may have felt down after getting kicked out of the room, twins still managed to smile when they looked at the photos of their children on their phones. And then they left the infirmary building to go back to the pack house for a meeting.
Throughout the meeting in their office with their Beta and Delta regarding the rehabilitation of the other packs that were attacked by rogues, the twins are just looking at their phones with goofy smiles on their faces.
“Alpha, what do you think?”
The twins were pulled out of their thought when their Beta, Tyler asked a question.
“Huh?”
“I asked what do you think about Aleksei’s idea.” He said.
“What idea?” they asked at the same time, and then Aleksei and Tyler looked at each other.
“Were you two even listening to what we were discussing?” Aleksei asked, and then the twins smiled at them.
“Sorry. We were pretty much preoccupied.” Lykos said.
“By what?”
Then the twins showed them their phones at the same time. On Lykos’ phone was Lysandra’s photo, while on Lynox’s phone was Fiero’s photo. When Tyler and Aleksei saw them, they leaned closer to get a better look at their Alphas’ babies.
“Is this them?” Tyler asked.
“Yeah. Roe finally let us see them earlier.” Lynox answered.
“They look so adorable. Which is which?”
“This is Lysandra, our princess, our firstborn,” Lykos said.
“And this is Fiero, our young prince,” Lynox said.
Tyler then looked at his Alphas.
“The princess is the firstborn? Is she going to be the Alpha after you two retire?” he asked and Lykos smiled before answering.
“If she’s up to it, then she can take the position.”
“But if she doesn’t, Fiero can have the position. It doesn’t matter who was born first. It’s a matter of who wanted it and who has the heart for the people.” Lynox continued and his twin nodded.
“What if both of them wanted to be Alpha?” Aleksei asked.
“They can rule together or play rock, paper, scissors.”
Aleksei and Tyler gave the twin Alphas a deadpan look.
“Do not worry about that for now. My brother and I are still young and very able. We can still lead this pack and continent for centuries.” Lykos said and Lynox nodded.
“Our twins can enjoy their life the way they wanted to enjoy it.” Lynox continued.
“Well, you have a point there,” Tyler said and Aleksei nodded.
Then the twins let out a sigh at the same time.
“But Roe still wouldn’t come back home,” Lykos said.
“She just let us see them for a couple of minutes before she kicks us out.” Lynox continued.
“We missed them.” They whined.
“Well, at least you two can see them. It’s progress.”
“Yeah. You just have to understand that your mate is in a different level of protectiveness.”
Their Beta and Delta told them and the twins immediately replied.
“We understand that, we are really patient.”
“But she is somewhat lenient when it comes to Lord Philip.”
“What about Lord Philip?”
“Since he is our daughter’s mate, we have no choice but to let them interact,” Lykos answered and then Lynox added.
“But for now, he needs to keep his distance and wait until our baby girl is of age.”
“Maybe when she’s a hundred years old or more.”
They said in unison, and then Tyler and Aleksei looked at them and then they chuckled.
“Oh, this is unexpected,” Tyler said and then the twins frowned.
“You played pranks on the old man for years, decades just because you find him old, but now, he is your daughter’s mate, your future son-in-law.” Aleksei said, chuckling.
The twins scowled and shivered in disgust when the word son-in-law was mentioned.
“We don’t want to hear that.”
They said at the same time and both Tyler and Aleksi laughed. The twins are getting annoyed by their laugh and huffed, crossing their arms over their chests.
“Shut up!”
