I heard someone was talking near me while my eyes were still closed. I became nervous when a thought came into my head. What if they caught me? What if they will abuse me again and worst... rape me. With those thoughts, I felt tears fall on my cheeks. My eyes were closed but I was crying. "Shhh! Don't cry, you're already safe here. No one will harm or hurt you here." A woman said while I felt her wiping my tears dry. I couldn't think straight at the moment. But based on her voice, she's in her mid-30 already. Her motherly voice gave me comfort. Slowly, I opened my eyes. The bright light blocked my sight that made me closed my eyes again, my eyes hurt but slowly it disappeared as nothing happened. Then I opened them again and I could see where I am. All are white, so I assumed that I was in the hospital. My body hurt too much and it was confirmed when I saw my legs wrapped in a bandage. I didn't know what happened after I ran away. Yes! I ran away which made me cringed knowing I didn't have anything. "Where am I? Don't hurt me please. I'm begging you, please," I begged as tears fell from my eyes once again. "Shhh! Don't cry, child. No one gonna hurt you here. As I have said earlier, you're safe here. You are safe." She said with a pleasant smile on her face. She patted my head like a mother would do to her child when it's crying. I saw her got the water from the table and gave it to me. "Here, drink this first, and then we will talk." She said again with a smile, and I knew she's a good woman through her eyes. So, I took the water and drank it like a mad man. I was too thirsty to decline free clean water. "Where am I?" I asked her again after I finished drinking the glass of water. Only two of us left inside the room and I didn't see the one she's talking to a while ago. "In the hospital. The one who bumped you with their car brought you here. But don't worry; your bills are already paid by them before they left. They're in a hurry because they still have an important business to attend to." She said with a smile that never leaves her face. "And I'm Maddie." She told me her name and then she got something on her back, it is a folder and a pen. "But now we need information about yourself, so we can bring you home." Suddenly, my nervousness came back, my tears already forming in the corner of my eyes. I knew she saw it when her smile slowly fades away. "Please Miss Maddie, don't bring me back there. Please! I don't want to go back, please Miss Maddie. Please!, I'm begging you, please!" Tears fell when memories, painful memories, flashbacks on my mind especially the latest one. When Cris rejected and broke me. I knew I shouldn't be crying, but I couldn't help it. I was broken. When I looked at Miss Maddie's eyes, I saw pity on it. She released a heavy sigh before she spoke. "Okay, I won't bring you back, but I still need information about you. So, can you answer some questions then?" "Okay," I answered her shortly. She asked me many questions and I knew an important one, so I answered her truthfully. As every question answered, I saw her eyes held understanding of my situation. There were also some affection and pity for it but she never spoke what’s on her mind and just let me tell my story with her every question. "Jess, I know an institution. They are taking children like you, children who suffer those misdeeds of our kind. But when you turn 18, you will choose what carrier you want to pursue. They will train you until you know, to yourself, what you want." Maddie told me as she held my hand. “You are safe there and they have the safest environment. They’re strict but that's just how the institution should be.” I saw light on what she said. Then she told me more and I started to like the place she was telling me. "Okay, I'll go. Thank you, Miss Maddie." I agreed to her suggestion because it was the only way for me to survive. I didn't want to go back to that pack and I didn't want to be a rogue. I wish I will be better there. The next day, someone fetched me. I hesitated at first but when Maddie came with me, I calmed down. We traveled for two hours before we arrived at our destination. I became nervous when I saw the place. It was fully guarded and have high fences. I trembled that Maddie grabbed my hand to comfort me and it worked. The place was cool, and as we walked inside, I realized that the place ambiance was welcoming and warm. All of them were busy with their works. Some were in combat training, some were like they are rescuing some people, some having a cooking contest, and I saw many more that I didn't know about.  I was busy looking all over the place that I never noticed where already in the main office. Miss Maddie, who accompanied me, knocked on the wooden door. “Come in,” I heard a small voice of a woman from the inside. I became nervous again, but when we entered, it disappeared. “Good to see you again Maddie,” the woman greeted Maddie with a pleasant smile on her face. “You might be Jessica,” she acknowledges me and I just nodded my head before she continued speaking. "Good to know that you choose us. So, welcome to Knight Institution.” She welcomed me warmly and she gave me a warm smile that made me smiled back. I looked at Miss Maddie and she's also smiling looking at me. Her eyes saying that I made the right choice, and I think I did. “Almost all the information needed had been answered, so, I don't have more questions.” She intently looked at me, “all you have to do is be yourself.” She said with an encouraging smile and I nodded my head. The friendly conversation followed that I silenced. It was not that I was not interested, it was just my mind to have its own accord. I made a promise to and for myself. From today forward, I will make myself strong. Not just only physically but also mentally and emotionally.
