8. SETTLING IN

CHAPTER 8

IVY’S POV

After a few seconds passed as I shook hands with Jeff, I finally got the courage to reply to him.

“Of course, when I need anything, I will be knocking on your door,” I arched my lips upwards saying this.

“Well, alright, let me allow you to settle in,” He jested and I smiled back.

I stood there watching him as he walked away. Good thing he didn’t look back and caught me staring because he would probably think that I am into him or something like that. I wasn’t into him. He is just hot and I was just appreciating his looks.

I carried my bags into the house. The house was not that big, it was simple and I fell in love with it already. There was a bathroom on my right just after the main door. Going straight forward was my bed and a small coach on the right side of the bed. A tiny closet was also present in that bedroom area. On the other side, there was a small kitchen area with a kitchen table. It was more of a bedsitter and I truly loved it. It was more contained and living alone could not be that lonely.

The house seemed pretty unoccupied for long therefore the first thing I was going to do is some thorough cleaning. Since I had not bought all the things I needed, I chose to take a shower first to change and to feel fresher before I went to town so as to buy the essentials I needed.

I got out my shower gel and my small face towel and my towel of course. I went to the bathroom and took a quick shower, of course after trying to clean the bathroom a little. I loved things spick and span and thus that is what I was going to do for the rest of the day.

After the shower, I wiped water off my body and started oiling myself. I wore some pair of denims shorts and a lime green tank top. I fished out some sandals from my bag and wore them.

Grabbing my phone and headphones, I left the house. The first thing I did was to call my mother and tell her that I arrived safely. She must be worried by now. After talking to her and all my siblings, I was now comfortable to even breathe comfortably.

I was aware of the small mall down on the street and that is where I was heading to right now. I blissfully listened to music on my way there.

I loved the weather and the general vibe of Mountain View. I had a certain good feeling that I was going to have a good time in this town.

It was just a ten minutes’ walk to get to the mall and once I was there, I only bought the cleaning staff. My house should be all clean before I even think of buying some grocery. I am a medic and I know for sure that cleaning goes a long way.

I walked back to my house still listening to music. I was happy that I did not stumble upon Jeff. He was just too hot to handle and he kind of makes me uneasy. Nothing much. Guys like him are the type to have girlfriends and if you fall to their trap you should just be fully aware that you are going to be a side chick. The girl she uses to cheat on her beloved girlfriend.

I walked to my house and started with the cleaning. I started with the walls, I cleaned the brilliant white walls till they managed to shine again. After that, I started cleaning the spaces one by one starting with the kitchen till I finally finished with the bathroom. It took me around two hours and when I was done with the cleaning, I was pleased with my work.

It was around 6.30pm by the time I was done with the cleaning thus the darkness was approaching. I had started feeling hungry but not that much therefore I decided to settle in.

I opened my bags and fished out the curtains. I placed them on the two vast windows. Once I was done with the curtains, I made my bed perfectly and I started arranging my cloths in the hanger. I took out my stethoscope and placed it at my small coffee table. I remember buying it when I was a freshman and now that I was going to use it in my practice, I was beyond glad. I was happy for my hard work.

I placed my cloths and my dustcoats in the wardrobe. I removed some décor items that I brought from home and I made my living room area look more good and lively, not the way I found it before.

I didn’t have some more things like mat, Tv and the rest. I was definitely going to use my laptop in the meanwhile but once I get some money, I was going to buy all the household essentials that I always wanted.

I arranged some of my best novels and medical books in the living room area and I was pleased with the job I had done. All I had to do now is to go and look for something to eat and come to sleep. Tomorrow is going to be a big day for me, I was officially going to start my work and I needed plenty of rest this very night.

First days in a place are always the hardest and it is my prayer that everything goes well tomorrow in the hospital.

Just like a message from God himself, I heard someone knocking on my door. I went there to get it and when I opened the door, I saw Jeff standing by the door with a tray on his hand.

“I figured that you might need some dinner this very night. I wanted you to come by my place to eat but since this is your first day here, I figured that you wanted to be lone and make things straight for your big day tomorrow,” He gave me some lengthy explanation.

“You didn’t have to do that, I am not even that hungry,” As soon as I said this, there was a loud rumbling on my stomach that would even been mistaken for some rumbling of thunder.

“Just take it, I know you probably need it” Jeff insisted and I was embarrassed because of the growl of course.

“I bet I should,” I carefully took the plate from him and mouthed him thanks before I closed the door with my foot. Well, that was hell of an embarrassment. I thought to myself as I placed the food in the kitchen table.

Blowing several breaths and allowing bygones be bygones, I opened the tray.

The sight of a very tasty wet fry chicken and rice made my stomach churn. I was surely very hungry. I didn’t do anything else other than munching on that sweet delicacy. It is crystal clear to me that Jeff is such a talented and a good cook.

After the dinner, I drank some water to hydrate and started going through my medical books. Being so exhausted, I brushed my teeth before I retired to bed. Tomorrow is going to be a special day and I was looking forward to it.
