CHAPTER 9 ACE’S POV I had my driver drive me to the Kennedy’s law firm. I know I looked elegant in the suit I had worn basing on how the people around stared at me. I was used to this. I am the manager here, the main lawyer and everyone who knew me respected me. They all bowed their heads as I walked over to the reception swinging my briefcase.   The receptionist, Jean seemed startled to see me. I had just caught her applying makeup on her face instead of attending to her job.   I gave her a tough look before I checked my watch as I headed to my private elevator. My PA John was already rushing behind me to ensure that I had all that I wanted at that moment. It was 7.58am in the morning. I am just right in time because I have called for a meeting at the boardroom at exactly 8.00am.   I am going to make things be in order. There is no way I was going to be taken down by that w***e of a wife. I was going to do all it takes to remain at the top. If it meant firing some useless staff like Jean, then I was going to do it. I am a very hardworking person. There is no way I am going to incorporate some lazy people into the firm. Not at this time when I feel somehow threatened. Not ever.   “Do you need anything sir?” John’s voice eased to my ears once I was in the floor of my office.   “I need those notes that I made yesterday. Add Jean to the firing list. I need people who want to work. We are not after beauty,” I was so serious about this. No one in the company would work in Yvonne’s favor at this time.   “Yes sir,” He rushed to his computer to get things ready as I walked a head to my office just as it clicked 8.00am.   I went over and sat on my swivel chair. I turned on my computer and my errands for the day were displayed on the screen. I didn’t have to look at them. That is John’s work. To tell me what I was going to do exactly each day. That is why I hired him.   I left the office at exactly 8.01am and walked to the boardroom. John was already waiting on the way and he handed me the notes I had asked from him. The entire boardroom was filled and I walked into it taking my position.   “You can all sit!” I ordered as my eyes raked through the paper handed to me.   A pin drop silence was maintained in the board room. I could feel the tension everyone was having and that made me break the silence with a small laughter.   “I know probably by now you have heard of the rumors. Rumors are hard to kiss in a law firm, in fact the news reports might add to the rumors, you know how good they are in minding people’s business.” I chuckled and the people also laughed briefly.   I didn’t waste any more time other than telling them what really made me call the meeting.   “First of all, Congratulation to Angie Brown and Evans Moses for winning yesterday’s cases. You did a great job. Please applaud.” I requested the members. They applauded for them and Angie and Evans were very grateful for the mention.   If I mention someone in the meeting, that means they are going to get 25% pay rise that month when they did a good job. We have meetings like this once a week and I am glad most times, I get to mention more than one name. The firm is really doing well.                                                                                                                                        “This is really critical and let me talk about it. My wife Yvonne wants to bring this firm down because of some issues I cannot talk about here. I want to ensure that things are right in tract. Before I tell you what I have in mind. I need Jean Wendy to stand,” I asked and looked around in the room for her.   She stood up with her cheeks flushed red knowing that she is in hot soup. Rules are there to be followed not to be broken. Work ethic should always be followed no matter what. However, she chose not to follow the work ethic and the rules thus she has no place in this firm.   “Jean Wendy! You have been fired. Please leave the room,” I announced and the others looked at her with sympathetic eyes. No one afforded to say something as the poor girl cried on her way out.   “I am not going to work with people who don’t really want to work. I have always said this, if you feel like you are under pressure or something, come over to my office. I will give you days off and when you come back, you will be at a best place to work. I don’t one someone to take this job for granted. With that note, if you think you want to be a rival and work with Yvonne, then the door is wide open. I am sure she will pay more so as to bring me down.” I gave them sometime and looked round the room to check if someone wanted to leave.   “Please, don’t be afraid to leave. I will respect your choice,” I told them and waited for anyone to leave. When I was about to speak, Eli Anderson left the room.   “Thank you Eli, please clap for him as he leaves,” I told the rest of my persons who were still seating.   “All the best Eli,” I forced a plastic smile as he left the room.   “I believe the ones who are here, who chose to remain do want to work. I have always told you that this firm belongs to me and you. If you excel, I excel, then the Kennedy’s law firm excels. Please, work harder. I want to mention more names in the next meeting. I believe in all of you. Please get to work. Don’t forget the usual norm, today, I will order pizza for each one of you and you will eat that as your snack. Now hurry, let’s get to work,” I told them and I could see the smile on their faces. It made me happy.   They were the best team to work with and I know with them, I would be unbeatable.   “John, what do I still have to do today?” I implored.   “You have a meeting with a Forbes Writer, they want to publish this month’s issue. They want you to tell your story of becoming a Billionaire in this Law Business,” John gave a lengthy explanation.   “Alright, I can’t wait,” I said throwing myself at the coach in my office after loosening my tie.   “Do you need anything more sir?” John asked.   “Yeah, bring me a cup of coffee,” I jested.   YVONNES’S POV “Please tell me there are more still on the way to team with me and to be against Ace.” I told Eli.                  “No, actually, I was the only one who left the damn room. I am here because I know you left Ace. I want to be the man who f***s you because you are that cheap. “Eli said with a smirk plying on his face.   What he said was offensive but I had to take it because he was good in bed and I have been craving for a man this past few days.   Needless to say, bringing down Ace would not be as easy as I thought of it. Not with this loser, Eli Anderson.
