6. NEW JOB

CHAPTER 6 IVY’S POV I was standing on my dressing mirror looking at myself in that graduation gown that I had just put on. I was all grown up and I was a woman smelling of success. I deserve all the complements I was going to be given because I worked hard for it.   Many star med school but only a few complete and I was lucky to be a part of the few. I had scored highly and I hoped that would be able to make me land in a well-paying job so that I would help my siblings and also save more cash to pay for a lawyer who would help me in the case so as to free my father.   “The visitors are waiting,” My mother come to my room and announced.   “Aright mother I am coming,” I etched a smile permanently on my face so that she wouldn’t have to worry about me.   If I had told her to stay back so that I could thank her for educating me, the two of us would definitely end up crying and that is the last thing I wanted on this D-day. We had, have enough with the tears. We needed to celebrate.   I wore the nude block heels that I had set aside for the day. I blew several breaths before I decided to descend down the stairs.   I was going to do this.   The room applauded just as I joined them. This sent ripples through my heart. The thing that made me happier is that my friends were also present. We had a couple of photos and exchanged pleasantries.   My mother was the one chairing the event and she welcomed us all. There was cake cutting for me and after that, we all ate cake followed by food.   After wine serving, the time for me to give my speech reached. They all applauded me as I walked to the small platform my mother had created. “I want to thank you all for being here for me. Honestly, who can ask for more? Thank you for believing in me. I promise to work even harder in the field when I finally get a job. You guys mean so much to me and thank you for everything.” I ended my speech.   They clapped as I walked all the way to my seat.   My mother aka the Mc went back to the platform. I thought she was going to give a vote of thanks but I was really wrong. Who would really have thought of that?   “At this juncture, let me welcome the surprise guest,” She announced and the crowd cheered. There was a surprise guest? I jutted my eyebrows up in surprise. There, they definitely go me.   I watched in happiness as the dean of our School of Medicine in Uni walked to the platform. Who would have thought of that? What is he coming here to do? I was really anxious and unsettled.   “Hello beautiful people. Thank you Mrs. Summers for welcoming me here. I know you never knew about this Miss Ivy Summers and that is why it is a surprise. Stanford Uni is proud of your performance and I am here to hand you this letter for you to work at Mountain View Hospital,” The dean announced and everyone clapped.   My heart stopped beating for some seconds. My eyes popped out in thunderstruck. This really go to me.   Is it really true that I have a job secured in Mountain View?   “Come here and take the letter, I know this come as a shock to you.” The dean told me and despite my heart racing in my chest.   I walked slowly and picked the letter from him.   This is going to be a game changer. My life is never going to be the same again.
