“Honk! Honk” a car blared snapping me out of my daze, the truck driver pulled over in front of me. I shuddered and stepped back frightened.
“Miss! You should watch where you’re going, do you want to kill yourself?” The man in the truck said in an alarming tone.
“I’m sorry mister!” I uttered with a slight bow and ambled away. The old truck driver hissed while shaking his head, “kids these days always get themselves involved in things that will traumatize them, look at this young lady she must be heartbroken because of a man” he hissed again, ignited his truck, and sped off. I stopped at a corner while trying to catch my breath. “What’s wrong with you Audrey? You’re trained like this. You could have just died over there and allowed the ones that hurt you to live triumphantly” I mumbled to myself as I breathed heavily. Getting a hold of myself I stopped a cab and went back to the villa. I needed some time alone, the office is not a place to think about the whole thing that has been happening to me.
“Screech!” The cab came to a halt at the gate of the neighborhood, I got out of the car and paid the driver.
Stepping into the villa, I walked straight to my room and threw myself on the bed. I cursed loudly while running a hand through my hair.
“Beep!” My cellphone rang continuously, I groaned and rummaged in my purse, I checked the ID as I took my phone out of my purse, “mom! Not now.” I mumbled thinking about whether to answer the call or not. The ringing stopped and continued again.
“Mom!” I asserted as I connected the call.
“Hello Audrey, why haven’t you come home to see me? Please come home my dear, your father and I are missing your presence” mom muttered with a sad tone. I let out a deep sigh, “fine, I’ll be there”
“What! Are you speaking the truth?” She inquired anxiously. “I’ll be there mom, don’t be over-excited” I uttered sternly and ended the call. Although I’m not ready to meet mum and dad I was depressed and scared to stay alone, I needed a shoulder that I could cry on and I had no friend or a man in my life. Aubrey is out for a shoot, and Ryan, the new guy, just disappeared. I just feel like I’m cursed, thereby deciding to visit the Wellington mansion. I huffed, got up from the bed, and strode to the washroom. I had my bath, dried my body, and wore a yellow long cardigan with black denim shorts. I put on a knee boot, grabbed my handbag, and left.
Shortly, I reached the bus stop where I waited for some moments before the bus arrived, I got onto the bus and sat next to the window. Mum had suggested sending a driver to come and pick me up but I decided against it because I still don’t want them to know where I’m staying. Possibly mum could walk in on me with no invitation, so it’s best I visit them and stay for a while. The bus soon stopped at a bus stop in San Francisco, I dialed mum's number which got connected immediately.
“Honey, are you here already?” She inquired. I notified mom to send the driver to come pick me up from the bus stop. I walked to the nearby restaurant after ending the call. I ordered sausage sandwiches with yogurt, sat down in a corner, and ate up the sandwiches. I checked my cell phone and grunted, “mom! This is ten p.m, and I’m feeling cold” I informed mum as the call connected.
“The driver will be there soon, he is on his way,” she explained. “Fine mum, I’ll see you at home” I uttered in a calm tone, feeling bad for raising my voice while answering the call.
The driver arrived a moment later after I had ended the call with mum.
“Young Miss” he greeted and bowed curtly.
“What took you so long? The Wellington mansion is not far from here” I inquired coldly.
“I’m sorry ma’am, a reckless driver bumped into the car.” I gestured for him to be silent when he tried to explain further. He nodded and led me out of the restaurant. I got into the Bentley and he drove off. Arriving at the Wellington mansion, mum and dad were already at the entrance of the villa waiting for me, the driver stopped in the parking lot. I got down and moved towards mum and dad.
“Mum, dad” I greeted and embraced them. Seeing them looking sad and tired made my heart ache.
“I’m sorry for making you two worry about me”
“Oh dear, it’s nothing. You’re back home and we’re happy, right George?” Mum nudged dad with her shoulder.
“Yes honey, we’re fine as long as you’re okay” I smiled and embraced them again. After a warm greeting mum motioned me into the house, right to the dining room. I was amazed to see the number of food placed on the table like there was a feast.
“Mum, are you having visitors at home?” I abruptly asked. I hate crowded areas, I’d act quickly and stay away from the dining hall.
Come on Audrey, your mum prepared everything by herself and it’s all for you” I widened my eyes and turned to mum, she was the last person to prepare a whole table of meals. However, dad had mentioned that mum made all this by herself just for my return. I beamed and pulled out a seat. “Come on mum, have a seat” I motioned her to sit on the chair. I did the same with dad before going towards an empty seat, I sat down on the seat and grinned at the two opposite me.
