Chapter 68

Mum has prepared all my favorite dishes, she got up from her seat and placed most of the dishes on my plate. “Mum, this is too much and I won’t be able to finish it all” I muttered with a creased brow, she chuckled awkwardly and paused, checking me out. “I believe this is why you’ve lost a lot of weight, you hardly have time to care for yourself or eat. I won’t take no for an answer, hurry and finish this food.” She asserted, I looked at dad for help but he shrugged and turned away. I sighed as I had no other choice than to finish the food on my plate. Unbeknownst to me, my appetite was so big after I had tasted the mouth-watering food Mum had prepared, I ate up all the food on my plate in just some minutes leaving mum and dad bewildered. I even found myself pathetic, however, they’re my parents and I have no reason to falter, or feel embarrassed. Rejecting the food and staying away from them made things different and a bit hard.

“You can still have some if you want” mum motioned me to eat up the food on the table, I wanted to notify her that I was okay, but my belly growled which got my lips glued together. I smiled and nodded in response, slowly I got up from the seat and took the remaining food from the table, having such a wild appetite is what I don’t understand, I guess it’s because I’ve got a lot on my mind bothering me, but I’d remember having lunch today, I told myself and hissed suddenly after I had recalled staying hungry the whole day as I had no chance to have breakfast or lunch, and I was also hurt because of the betrayal I received from Charlotte and Mara. That made me forget about food.

“Are you ok? You look malnourished and sad. You speak to me Audrey” mum muttered with a worried look.

“I’m fine mum, I’m just tired. After a long day at work, I headed straight to San Francisco. Don't worry about me, I'll be fine after getting some rest” I responded calmly with a fake smile. She arched her brow while glaring at me, I nodded with a smile reassuring her that everything was fine.

Shortly, mum left with dad after having their dinner, I hurriedly ate all the remaining food and went to my room which had already been tidied by the head maid Nancy.

My mood lightened up when I stepped inside the closet, mum had already prepared a set of pajamas for me, I slid into it immediately and sat down on the bed.

“Knock knock” there was a slight knock on the door, I raised my head and gazed at the door, I saw dad standing at the door with a glass of orange juice.

“Dad” I smiled while standing on my feet. He stepped in and gestured for me to sit. “There is no need for formalities Audrey” he sat next to me and handed me the glass of juice.

“I wanted to speak to you about the company” he asserted with a raised brow. My face turned gloomy, I’d always known that they just lured me back to talk to the Wellington group not because they missed me. I wanted to refute dad but he was fast to speak, “I know this is the last thing you want to hear but I just want you to hear me out” he continued, I huffed and no ironed him to go on.

“Honey, your mother and I are old, we can’t always take care of the company because we don’t know the trends, don’t think we’re pushing the enterprise onto you. No darling, that’s not it, we’d only want you to act as the director while I’ll still be the chairman of the Wellington Group. This would not in any way affect your store, your elder sister's nature of work isn’t favorable, and she moves to different states and countries for a shoot. You’re the only successor close to home” he explained and let out a deep sigh.

“Dad, that trick isn’t going to work on me, you and mum old? Omg, you both are just forty-two. I know one thing, you both are just reluctant to run the company because you just want to tour the world with mum” I uttered, that gave dad a shock, he’d never thought that I would know his plans, but I got the whole information from the butler that works for us. He told me that mum and dad are planning to travel to England after handing the company to me.

“Hehehe! How did you find out, that big mouth Jensen told you?” He inquired with a raised brow, "I nearly sold Jensen out before I recovered myself, “no one told me, dad, I had always known that you wanted to leave the country to England” I retorted, he groaned and gripped my wrist.

“We’re your parents Audrey, just say yes and fulfill our dream, we aren’t forcing you to take over the company, nor are we telling you to close down the store. We just want you to manage the company because you’re the only one suitable to handle it, my brilliant daughter” dad caressed my face as he said. I rolled my eyes, “like I have a choice, you and mum had already planned this out. You can out Mum, I know you’re there” I muttered sternly with a smirk on my lips. Mum stepped out of the corner where she was hiding and strode into my room with a smile.

“My cute baby is becoming smarter by the day” she kissed my cheeks and sat down at the other end of the bed.

“Fine! I’ll do my best to handle both businesses but now I want to be off from work for some time” I let out after deep thinking. That placed a smile on the face of mum and dad, they embraced me while kissing me all over.

“I know, I know. You both can continue planning for the tour, I’ll be ready to go to the company in three days”

“Take your time honey, we’re not in a hurry. As long as you’re willing to take over the company I’m relieved.” Mum mumbled joyously. I felt a surge of excitement rise in my heart as I watched mum and dad smiling happily. Slowly I was able to forget the troubles which were bothering me.
