Chapter 20

Charlotte stood at the window staring at my disappearing figure that entered the cab, “finally she has left, I wonder made her think that I would attend the trade fair? She is a Wellington, an elite in society. The name alone is respected all over the world, but she rather decided to do something for herself thereby rubbing their wealth on my face” Charlotte thought to herself with gritted teeth and sat down on the bed. “Even my parents have always compared me to you which is pathetic. I promise I’m going to make your life miserable. Just you watch” she uttered with a sneer and strode to the bathhouse. “Beep!” Charlotte’s cell phone rang in the room while she was still bathing. A groan escaped her lips as she wiped away the foamy residues on her face, tied a white towel, and rushed to the table where she placed her cellphone, “Andrew!” She beamed and connected the call. “I believe you must have agreed to my thought that is why you initiated to call me first” Charlotte taunted, and the two talked for a while and came to a decision that they would meet in my apartment since I have left for my store. The call came to an end causing Charlotte to jump for joy. “I’m able to take your man, this is not the beginning. I’m here to snatch away everything that’s yours. I’ll make sure you pay for every pain you’ve caused me” she clenched her fist and went back to the bathroom. She hurriedly completed her bath and stepped into the closet, she wore a red transparent nightie, and a black bikini and waited for Andrew in the living room. Could it be that Charlotte didn’t hear me in the morning, how come she is not here? I thought becoming restless while staring at the entrance watching everyone that stepped into the trade fair ground. I could easily tell the number of guests that walked through that door, I was soon disrupted by Addison. “Look ma’am we’ve gotten our first customer” I snapped out of a daze and glared at Addison with a creased brow, my gazes slowly fall on a lady who was standing in front of my portion at the trade fair ground” I chuckled awkwardly and moved to her. I introduced myself and showed her the different Rey branded outfits which I created personally. I explained the process of branding, sewing, and everything needed to know by her. “Sounds pretty nice! The outfits look really nice. I’ll take this” she pointed to a blue off-shoulder blouse with different designs on it. We didn’t speak much on the outfit as the organizers had specifically given a price tag for every outfit on the trade fair ground. I instructed Addison to hand me the leather and the card which has my name brand on it. “Thank you so much for patronizing. I appreciate” I uttered curtly. The lady waved her hand and smiled. “Your work is nice, it’d be a waste if another person has gotten it before me” I nodded in response and watched as she disappeared into the crowd. I glanced around the whole field and saw that I was the first person to have sold a dress on the whole ground. I Swallowed hard as the other traders were shooting daggers at me. “Showing off again! I wonder what’s so nice about her outfits, it’s not like she is better than us” the same lady that chided me at the validation point asserted. I was stunned that she had her storage right beside me. Could this match with the saying that “it’s a small world after all?” I thought to myself knowing that this old hag might try to cause trouble for me, I ignored her and sat down on the seat. “Miss Audrey, I think we’re going to make it large. We became the first store in batch A to sell an outfit, this is a good start” I looked at Addison and let out a deep sigh. Shortly, buyers start trooping in and out of my cubicle. Within fifteen minutes I sold out all the ten outfits I came with, which made my heart leap for joy. My hard work really paid off, although I know that my outfit is very different from the others but I had a little faith that it would sell. “We did it! We did it, miss Audrey, I foresighted it. I know that your designs would scale through, look more people are coming, and guess what” she winked at me, I rummaged my brain for the nasty idea she might have but found none. “Come on, how can you forget about it? You even made it yourself” she tapped my shoulder and showed me the box containing my store card, I snickered and nodded, “yes, that’s right” atlas I understood what she was hinting at. We distributed the card to everyone that came for an outfit and notified them to come to my store for more eye-catching designs. Soon my cubicle was filled up with people that needed the card. I was so excited handing out the card that I failed to realize that I’d invited trouble which was coming to me. “What’s going on here?” One of the security guards arrived and dispatched the crowd that was in my cubicle. Abruptly, he accused me of cheating which caused an uproar amongst the crowd, I froze and was astounded. “Excuse me, sir, what do you mean by that, how did we cheat?” Addison snapped at him, and that was when I found a word back in my tongue. “Yes! What do you mean? I can’t place my finger on what you’re insinuating” I uttered standing with both hands on my waist. “I’d suggest you cut the pretense and spurt the truth. I got information from your Co-trader that you disobeyed our rules thereby cheating in the sales” I stared at the security man with a blank expression. “Mister, I can’t stand here and watch you try to frame me or pin a crime on me. Tell me the rule I disobeyed?” “You sneaked a known brand and sold it at the trade fair ground, this crime its penalty is disqualification” he affirmed, the crowd was stunned that they began whispering to themselves. I glanced around and suddenly cracked up.
