Chapter 28

It’s been more than a month since the trade fair and I’ve gotten the contract signed by the Astors, the name of my brand and some of my designs have been on various billboards and platforms in Boston. It was such a massive step and a dream come true. Although my brand hasn’t gone all over the world, I'd still strive hard, and be sure that I would reach my goal of making a popular brand. Throughout the past weeks, I had made a lot of sales. I’d sold out all the outfits I created. I found it mind-blowing as the number of returning customers was much higher than I had expected, so I had to employ two more workers who also helped out in the manufacturing of my new products. With my brand more popular and getting larger in the sales market, I decided to put my full attention to work thereby following Addison's advice to get a new house that is close by. I scrolled down through my phone and stopped at agent Gomez's cell phone number and called him, the call rang for a moment before it got connected. “Miss Wellington” the other end asserted, I cleared my throat and greeted him. “Sorry for the bother Mr. Gomez, I wanted to check if there is any house vacancy? I would need a manor or a mansion that is close to my store” I let out swiftly. “A manor! But ma’am, you just got a nice apartment at Newbury street” he uttered, sounding quite stunned. I was silent for a moment tapping my finger on the table, “Mr. Gomez this is an urgent request, if there is none do let me know” “Well, I’m sorry for that, I believe there would be a lot of apartments in that vicinity, we could see it now.” I nodded in disagreement thinking that he was before me, “of course not, let’s do that tomorrow” I quickly said when I realized that I just nodded my head in response while I’m speaking to him through a call. The call ended after we had scheduled our meeting. I relaxed my back on the seat to have a quick rest as I have been up and busy since last month. “Beep!” I got a call from Andrew which stunned me. It was barely a week after my birthday that he visited my apartment to notify me that was going on a business trip. I was disheartened and refused to let him go, it hasn’t been long since he came back from England, I haven’t even had a good time with him and he is traveling for two months. However, we had an argument that led to a fall out which made us not speak for quite long. I bet that must have been his plans as he had made plans to spend time with Charlotte who was becoming a ton in the flesh to him. Abruptly that was the moment his sister Alexa visited him here in Boston, so Andrew had to make preparations to leave town with Charlotte as he doesn’t want Alexa to find out the truth about them. In Oklahoma where Charlotte and Andrew have rented a beach house for two months, things became heated when Andrew got tired of Charlotte he attempted to end things with her but that caused a big fight between them. “How could I have fallen prey to this razz woman?” Andrew uttered to himself as he angrily left the house to the beach slamming the door behind him. He stood in front of the sea, took out a cigarette, and lit it up. He thought of the good old days we had shared and cursed inwardly, berating himself for losing control, Andrew then swore to cut the relationship he has with Charlotte and set things right this time. He walked back into the house, grabbed his luggage, and started packing his clothes. Charlotte walked upstairs and stood at one side of the ajar door staring at Andrew who was packing his things. “I believe you know that this isn’t going to help you” she let out with a smirk, Andrew ignored her while continued setting his things into the luggage. This attitude pissed off Charlotte, she angrily strode to him and pushed him on the shoulder, “I’m speaking to you, how dare you ignore my presence?” He staggered as he wasn’t expecting the push, he caught hold of the wall and balanced his stance. “Look, you should stay out of my way. We’re over!” Charlotte widened her eyes immediately after she heard Andrew's words. I would never get ditched because that girl Audrey, that is not going to happen. She clenched her fist as she thought to herself, “why are you still over there? Please pack your things and leave, except you want to be thrown when the management arrives” Charlotte felt despondent for a while but immediately fall to her feet, she clasped Andrew's leg pleading for another chance, she vouched in her mind she can’t let me have Andrew again, she could stoop to any level to make him come back to her. Andrew halted for a moment and played along with Charlotte who was now shedding tears as she saw that blackmail was no longer working on him. He let out a deep sigh and assisted Charlotte to get off the floor, he dried his tears and embraced her. “I’ll give it a thought, but now we need a break. I’ll give you a call later” he asserted, locked his luggage, and left. Shortly after, Andrew, who had returned not long ago, was pacing his apartment wondering how to handle me. He picked up his cell phone and dialed my number. “What’s the matter, are you done with your business trip?” I inquired, feeling annoyed and at the same time excited that I finally got a call from Andrew. “I’m very sorry babe, it was urgent. I had to do this to be sure of a better future for us” I arched my lip into a smile and quickly shoved it aside. “That’s not good for an excuse, I’d already told you not to work. You can depend on me, I can take care of you if needed” I mumbled, he chuckled, “come on babe, I know you can take care of me, but I still need to look after you. At least you won't always go to work or stress yourself, I’m worried that you might get sick if you continue to work without rest” I flushed as I smiled shyly. The anger that has been absorbed in my heart slowly disappeared without a trace. Andrew notified me that he was in a restaurant that was close by, So we scheduled a meeting in a restaurant on the next street before my store. I clapped both hands excitedly the moment the call ended and got up from the seat, “Addison, I’m stepping and might not come back. Lock the store” I affirmed, she nodded in response. I strode to the washroom, patted a handful of water on my face, and dried it. I applied a powder, a peach lipstick, that seems much more natural to my lip. I brushed my hair, made it into a bun, straightened my outfit, and strode out of the washroom. I took my Prada handbag and left the store.
