Stepping out of the store, I crossed the road and trekked down to the other street where I located the said restaurant easily. I beamed and walked in, with the assistance of a waitress I located the private suite Andrew had booked.
“Hey!” I asserted as I strode into the suite with a face full of smiles. He got up from his seat, walked toward me, and gave me a bear hug. The hug lasted for so long that I was about to suffocate.
“Come on Andrew, you’re going to hug me to death, I’m having a hard time breathing here” I let out breathing heavily as he pulled me out of his embrace. “Are you okay?” He patted my back while I tried to catch my breath.
“What the heck is wrong with you, did you invite me out to hug me to death?” I pushed his hands away and uttered after I had gotten myself.
“No! I was just excited to see you after so long. I’ve missed you Audrey” he clasped my hands into his as he stared at me with mist in his eyes. Slowly the guard which I set up dissipated. Although I knew he wasn’t going to do anything to me, I was so scared that my overthinking got hold of me so I had to guard up against him.
“You shouldn’t have acted out casually. Well, I missed you so much that I always held onto your photo to sleep” I let out softly with a heated face. He chuckled and pulled out a seat for me, I sat brown biting my lips. I had no idea what to say to start up a conversation. Andrew snapped his finger at the waiter that was standing at the door, he sauntered in and handed us the menu.
“What do you want to have?” He inquired with an arched brow. I scrolled through the menu and found a set of Japanese sushi. I once had it with mom and dad at a restaurant in Japan. It tasted great, I’d always wanted to have a taste of the sushi, “I’ll go for the Japanese sushi” I muttered, and Andrew ordered a wine. The waiter bowed curtly and left the suite.
“Babe, I have something to say to you” he mumbled, I moved my gaze from my cellphone to him, “go on” I urged him, he swallowed hard, “Charlotte..” he attempted to speak but was cut short by the sound emanating from my phone. Charlotte, is she back from Australia? I thought to myself as she had told me that she was going to settle things with her which I was happy about, I wonder if things had gone well? I quickly connected the call.
“Hey, Lottie!” I uttered with a loud voice, Andrew's face which was full of smiles fell as his mood turned sullen, and his eyes darkened as he turned away from me. I stretched out my hand, placed it on his palm, and made a “what is the problem?” Gesture with my shoulder. He forced a smile and shrugged.
“Hey, Audrey! I just got back home now. Uhm.. are you still at work?”
“No, what a coincidence. Andrew just got back from his business trip, I stepped out to have lunch with him” I explained while caressing his wrist.
“Oh, I was thinking if you can stay with me for a moment. I’m traumatized from the incident at home” I bit my lower and gazed at Andrew.
“Uhm… I’ll get back to you. Just a moment” I dropped the call.
“Drew, can we push the lunch over to another day? Charlotte needs me, she sounded traumatized. I have to go check up on her” I explained with pleading eyes. Andrew let out a deep sigh and attempted to speak when my cell phone rang again.
“I’ll see you tomorrow, I love you” I kissed his cheek, grabbed my bag from the table, and left the suite. Andrew grunted and slammed his fist on the table, “this must be your plans Charlotte trying to stop me from spilling the truth” he gritted his teeth as he understood what he has gotten himself into. “Whatever hideous plans she has I would never have anything to do with her again” he muttered to himself. He got up from the seat, paid for the sushi, and sent back the wine. I moved to the other end of the road and got into the cab I had waved down. The cab driver took off and abruptly pulled over in front of my apartment after a long drive on the busy road. I handed him his p*****t and rushed into the closing elevator.
“Lottie, I’m back!” I walked into the house while glancing around searching for Charlotte, whom I met curled up on the long couch.
“Hey! What’s the matter” I sat down beside her. She sat up and turned to me, drops of tears falling freely on her cheek as she wanted to speak. That made her embrace me while she sob softly. I hissed realizing it was a bad idea to allow Charlotte to go down to Australia. I was thinking that everything will be fine once she’s back but I was just overthinking it.
“Come on, don’t cry. Tell me what’s the matter?” I raised her face with my finger. She sniffled in, “you won’t believe what happened, I always wonder if they’re my real parents. How could I be treated this way?” I caressed the back of her palm soothingly attempting to calm her down. She quickly narrated to me that her parents fetched her from the airport and forcefully sent her to an unknown mansion that belonged to a foreign man. I was bewildered that I sprang up from the sofa. “This is outrageous, who acts like that these days? We will have to report them to the cops” I uttered, she flinched and got up from the couch.
“No, don’t do that. They are still my parents you know, I can’t let them be locked up” she held my hands gazing at me with mist in her eyes.
“Come on Charlotte, I’d know they are your parents. But they don’t treat you as their own, you should take action against them to protect yourself” she shook her head in disapproval and made me promise not to speak about it again. I breathed heavily knowing that this was her choice and I don’t want to push further.
“Have you had something?”
“No! I don’t feel like it” she responded and sat down on the sofa.
“Wait for a moment, I’ll order your favorite pizza that would lighten up your mood” I asserted. It didn’t take long for me to place an order, “let me shower, I’ll be down soon” I walked up to my room, unclad myself, and stepped inside the bathtub.
