“Hey, Ryan!” Laura mumbled slightly as she walked into my old room, sitting on the bed, I raised my head, glanced at her, and ignored her. She stepped closer to me and sat at the table. “I’m Laura, the minister's daughter, mum said you love the quiet place but I’d want to know about you” she let out biting her lips. I sneered and looked up to her, “mum had already said it all, I love quietness. You can leave now you have gotten to know what I like” I responded with sarcasm, she gritted her teeth and wanted to retort but swallowed hard and decided to ignore my rash words, she doesn’t want to appear bad in my eyes so she smiled and sat down next to me, “come on Ryan, there is no harm in trying to know each other” she mumbled calmly while hiding away her angry tone.
“Although I didn’t want an arranged woman with a half-demon, she did nothing to harm me or my family, so there is no need for me to ignore her. Besides, I think she’s respectful” I thought to myself and let out a deep sigh.
“Well, since you want to know. I’m Ryan and you know, I hate arranged marriage. I’ll tell you now that I can’t marry you, it’s never going to happen” I uttered sternly without batting my eyes, she choked on her saliva and abruptly let out a sad smile.
“Let’s not talk about that now, I’m not here to speak about marriage, I just want to get to know you. We can talk about marriage when you’re ready” I scoffed and wondered if she had a dumb head, “to get to know me, you will have to try harder” I was tired of listening to her bold words, I stood up from the bed, strengthened my outfit and turned to leave.
“Stop!” She uttered with a wave of authority. I halted and gazed at her with amazement. I gave her a questioning glare, requiring an explanation for drastically stopping me.
“I, Laura Rhodesia have decided to court you, and I don’t care what you think about it” she affirmed in a serious tone. I was stunned for a while that I was tongue-tied, “shameless!” I asserted after I had recovered myself and strode out of the room. Atlas, she couldn’t hide for so long, I thought with a scoff.
“You can say whatever you want but I have the right to court you, you can stop me from doing that” she screamed, I hissed and made a turn to the library on the last floor.
“Creak” I unlocked the door with the key Shadow had given to me. Stepping inside the library, the large door locked after I had walked in. I glanced around the whole library amazed at the setting, “I’d never believe if someone was to tell me that somewhere like this exists in the Astors mansion” I walked around the library before walking upstairs where the book of prophecies was kept.
“What! Such a big book” I said disappointed, I took out my cell phone and dialed Shadow's number. It rang twice before it connected.
“The heck are you doing when I was calling?” I inquired.
“I’m sorry boss, I was busy” he explained, I let out a deep and shoved aside my anger.
“Which page is it?”
“The middle page, that’s where it said that you reverse the hypnosis or the intended prophecies in the book would happen.” I ended the call and opened the book. I scrolled through it for a while reading the phrases in the book. Everything was as Shadow stated, I huffed and sat down on the ground as I decided to read the whole book of prophecies.
“Everything is clear, someone has to die and I won’t let anyone be hurt” I got up from the floor, placed the book on the table, and was ready to leave when I found out that it was midnight.
I hastened my pace and walked out of the library door.
“Son, where are you going?” Mum's voice came from behind startling me.
“Mom” I mumbled with a gloomy face.
“It’s late! Where are you heading to?”
“You should drop all this mum, no one is here and this is not going to work on me” I sneered.
“Come on son, I care about you. I don’t want anything to happen to you” she stepped closer to me which made me move back disdainfully.
“Get hurt?” I let out a mocking smile. “What is more hurtful than having my parents arrange a marriage that I didn’t even want? I’m already hurt. I don’t need your care mum” I left without sparing her a glance, mum used her super speed and stepped in front of me.
“Son! I’m doing this for you. You can leave at dawn. It’s dangerous outside. Demon hunters, rival clan. You’re just presenting yourself as prey to them” she sounded persuasive and was standing in front of me with pleading eyes.
I rolled my eyes, swirled, and moved up to my room. Paced around the room annoyed, “I won’t get to see Audrey’s face while she sleeps” I groaned and stepped out of my room to search for Rodney.
“Brother, you’re still here. Are you going to stay with us from now on?” I bumped into Liam who immediately threw a question at me.
“Step aside Liam, I’ve no time for your banters” I shoved him aside.
“Come on, I was on my way to your room. I’m glad I met you here” he said excitedly.
“Be quick about it” he chuckled and slammed my shoulder.
