Chapter 10Modern Day
Eli parked his Honda in the garage. Joshua spoke very few words on the drive over. Instead Joshua looked out the passenger side window, glanced often at his TracPhone and texted. He knew Joshua was upset about something. As they headed downstairs to Eli’s basement apartment, Joshua made it first downstairs and waited for Eli to open the door. Instead, Eli handed Joshua a spare key.
“Here. Open it with your own key for you to use.”
“Really?” Joshua’s voice betrayed happiness and for a moment, Eli thought Joshua would then talk about what happened at school earlier but after a few moments of smiling, Joshua reverted to silence.
