Chapter 6

“Ok, so, let’s start by not panicking.” Said Iris as she sat down on Robin’s bed. Robin has been going in circles around the room for the past 30 minutes. “No, no, no I don’t want this. I don’t want to have a mate and some s**t. How do I get rid of him?” Robin asked as she finally stopped and looked at Iris. Iris is the smartest one out of the bunch she also shares some of the ‘concerns’ Robin has about the mating and how unfair it is.    “Well, first you need to make sure that he is your mate. Maybe you both misjudged the situation.” Iris tried to reason. Robin shook her head. It is 100% him. Robin’s wolf didn’t talk or help when she was punching Wilder. Only after she moved away the wolf spoke to her; she was very unhappy that they were harming their mate.   “The wolf thinks he is the one, the wolves are not wrong in these matters,” Robin said and moved her hand through her hair. Iris sighed, she wasn’t really pleased with Robin’s situation but not only because of it being too early to ‘settle down with a mate.’ But also, because Wilder was nowhere as good as Robin, their pairing was doomed. There are always rumours about him and human girls and how he gets into different s****l situations with them.    “How did Wilder react to the news?” Iris asked, hoping to get a clearer picture of the situation. Maybe he was kind of a person who believed in mating and s**t and would fix his behaviour.  Robin chuckled. “Even worse than me, if that was possible. He was the one who noticed it and the horror in his face was just plain funny.”    Robin thought about how both of them moved away and didn’t even have a full conversation about it. One thing was clear- they both hated being mates. Remembering how he jumped on her and Hope’s conversation about Moon Goddess and mates, it was also clear that he deeply disagreed with Moon Goddess.    We have same ideas, Moon Goddess really planned this through. Spoke her wolf and Robin growled. No one should know her better than she knows herself. Moon Goddess or not.     Iris was still deep in thoughts analyzing just how much this situation would suck when Robin said. “Can I just reject him?” Iris looked at her wide-eyed. Robin felt a howl deep in her soul, her wolf was unhappy.    Rejection meant not accepting your mate and not having to live with them. But it was also said to cause great pain for both of the mates and turn their luck into a bad one where for the rest of their lives each mate would feel the hollowness of rejection in their soul.    “No, I don’t think that the best solution. Also, for rejection to work you first need to give a chance for acceptance.” Iris said remembering the old scriptures with rules. The mating process has always been one of the important parts of Werewolf culture. There are pages of rules, do’s, and don’ts for both males and females alike. Most were just passed down by tradition or you just learn about it as you live through it.    Robin sighed and sat on the ground. “This is ridiculous, I don’t want that prick to have a chance with me. I don’t want to accept that I am stuck with him forever, and I don’t want to start a family.” She complained, 19 is not the age of a family starter. It is the age of experimenting and seeing what you like, who you like, and how you like it. It is not fair that just because his touch gave her sparks they had to be together and be exclusive now. “I don’t want to see him ever again,” Robin mumbled as she put her hands over her face.    Iris sighed, knowing that she was about to disappoint her friend. “You know we have the Pack dinner today, right?” Robin’s groaning was heard throughout the floor.        Wilder was trying to fix his nose which was getting a good bruise and cut below it. She hit it pretty bad. She, how pathetic we don’t even know her name. Whines his wolf and Wilder scrunched his face. He would rather not know her name or anything about her for that matter. It would be better if he never met her, that way they wouldn’t have had that f*****g bond work its f*****g magic and tie them together for eternity.    “Someone got their ass handled, I see.” Axel, the next Alpha-to-be said as he leaned on Wilder’s bedroom door. Wilder rolled his eyes. “Brother, are you talking about yourself because I am perfectly good.” Axel walked in and looked at Wilder’s nose more carefully. “Good punch,”   “Kick, I was kicked,” Wilder corrected him which made Axel chuckle. “Then a bad kick, a kick should have broken your nose, not fracture it.” Wilder moved away from Axel’s examination. “What do you want from my room?” Axel shrugged and sat on the bed. “Nothing, just checking.”    Wilder ignored Axel as he went to the bathroom and cleaned his face up. He still needed to shower after the training. And what training it was…   “You know, I am leaving in a few days,” Axel said and Wilder looked at him from the bathroom. “You decided to join The Ritual?” asked Wilder to which his brother nodded.    The Ritual was an easier way of finding your mate. Every year volunteers from every pack go to a field and spend 2 weeks there. They are grouped by gender and are expected to cleanse themselves from the outside world and connect deeper to the spirits of their ancestors. At the end of 2 weeks, they host a ball in which everyone comes together and if your mate there you could sense it like with smell and eye contact, just like it used to happen in the old times.    Wilder avoided going to something like this last year, spending a week in a camp with only boys wasn’t his idea of fun. And it looks like he may never need to go to The Ritual.    “Yeah, well, chances of me finding a mate there is higher. Now that I am sure my mate isn’t here.” Axel continued to complain. Wilder remembers his brother being into a bunch of girls who he thought were his mates, every time he had a crush on someone he expected them to be his mate. But he is 22 and still, none of them turned out to be his mate.  “You are right, dad will never step down if you can’t find a mate.” Their father was waiting for Axel to find his mate to give him the title of Alpha. Apparently, it was harder to both lead a pack and look for a mate. Axel chuckled. “It’s not only that, I will eventually get the title anyway. I just want to find my mate, I need to have them.”    Wilder rolled his eyes. “Axel, I remind you: Mate is not a thing, they are a person. You can’t have and possess a live, breathing, person.” He hated the talks of mates but he mostly hated the unnecessary passiveness in the air when people were talking about mates. Like grow up, get a hobby and stop talking about your love life.   Axel rolled his eyes. “What do you know, dipshit. Last I heard you were banned from one of those human clubs,” Wilder chuckled. “It is called a bar and night club. And I am not banned, anymore.” Ban lifted as soon as he met the manager of the club, who happened to be a hot lady.    “Whatever you say, by the way, are you going to clean up?” Axel said and looked at dirt ridden clothing of Wilder. “You remember we have a pack dinner, right?” Axel said and enjoyed the look of panic in his brothers’ eyes. “Right, I’ll leave you to it then.”
