-Anastasia- I wished I could say the rest of the day went smoother, but it didn’t. After Quinn had patched me up, I went to do some studying on my own, hoping that education could at least be a lifeline once I stood on my own two legs. However, as I sat in a small study library by myself, Lisa and her group of followers found me. I whimpered and curled up instinctively even before they began circling me. Lisa, a powerful female Warrior in our pack, pushed out a chair beside me and sat down. “Hello, squeaky,” she taunted me, her own nickname for me because I always let out a little whimper whenever I saw her. I believed it was an Omega thing, like a distress call, but I had no Alpha or mate to protect me, so there was no one to save me. “Please, I already took a fall today,” I told her, holding up my wounded hand. “Oh, I see. Who did that?” Lisa questioned, looking around, but it was none of her followers today. “Not one of us?” The girls shook their heads, some Warriors, others pack members getting their education to help the pack run. “Interesting,” Lisa said. “I thought we made it clear that squeaky was ours to taunt.” “I thought we did too,” Mona replied before taking the other seat beside me. “Seems like we have to make some things clear.” Lisa suddenly reached out, squeezing my wounded hand, and I cried out, slamming my other hand onto the table as I tried to ignore the pain. “Why are you hurting me? I didn’t ask them to do it!” “That doesn’t matter, squeaky, you haven’t gotten your dose of us today,” she replied. I glared at her with tears in my eyes, but that made her growl at me, and I gazed down at my work instead as she squeezed my hand even harder. “Please…” I whispered. “What was that?” “Please stop!” She relented, and the others began chuckling before Lisa pushed one of my books to the floor and then turned to me with a smug smile. “Whoops.” The others laughed again before grabbing my work and tearing it apart. I had no computer, and I couldn’t afford one. There was no help available from the pack as our name was branded now. We were tolerated but not helped, so an hour’s worth of work went up in flames in front of my eyes while the rest of my books and pencils were thrown about. Tears remained in my eyes, but I didn’t cry. I turned quiet, gazing at the table in front of me. “I can’t wait,” I whispered when they grew quiet. “Sorry, did you say something?” Lisa taunted. “I said, I can’t wait!” I shouted, turning to her. “Wait for what?” “To leave!” “Oh, you’re leaving?” she teased. “Of course. The moment I can!” “And where will you go? You think you’re clever and strong enough to survive out there? You’re an Omega. You’re meant to cry for attention and be weak. That will entice a strong Warrior, maybe even an Alpha, and that is how you get protection.” “I am not like other Omegas,” I snarled. “No, you’re even more pathetic, and you hold no value at all because of your traitor father!” Lisa growled into my face. “You won’t survive a day out there!” “Watch me!” “And who will take care of your poor mother?” “I will, of course.” “So, an extra mouth to feed? Do you have a place to go?” I turned quiet. I didn’t have a place yet. I was still unsure where I could even go, but I did have savings. “I didn’t think so,” Lisa scoffed. “You should be grateful that the Alpha still allowed you to stay after your father almost destroyed our pack.” “He knows we are grateful already,” I whispered. “You sure don’t show it when you speak of leaving.” “And why do you care? You don’t want me here!” Lisa reached out, wrapping her hand around my jaw and pressing her fingers into my cheeks. “Oh, squeaky, that is not true. I love having you here! Who else would I torment?” I felt the tears almost overflow, but I had learned to control them long ago. “Take her,” Lisa ordered. The others grabbed me and pulled me from my seat. “Wait, where are we going?” I knew this wasn’t going to end well, but I had no choice but to follow. They pulled me outside, dragging me into the woods behind the house. I tried fighting back, but they were too strong. They laughed as I wriggled around, and soon I realized where we were headed. “No, please! You know I can’t swim!” I pleaded with Lisa, but she didn’t care. This wasn’t the first time she had done this to me, pulling me to the lake not far from the pack house. The others kept laughing, and I fought harder, but they wouldn’t listen to me. When we reached that little lake, I felt panic rising in me once more. The lake wasn’t wide, but it was deep, and it went almost straight down from the beginning. The others pulled me into the water, then shoved me forward, making me crash into the water, and I started to sink immediately. I tried pushing up, kicking my legs, and it worked, but the water invading my mouth and nose made the panic rise. I broke through the surface, begging them to help me, but they just watched me, refusing to do anything. I sank down again, taking in a mouthful of water before breaking to the surface again, coughing and begging, and then falling into the water again. I knew they would wait until the last moment to pull me out, but just as I broke the surface, I heard a voice call out, “Hey!” The power behind that call made my insides tighten even in the cold water. However, I couldn’t stay above water anymore. I fell in again, but only for a moment before an arm wrapped around my waist, pulling me above the surface. That powerful body... I could always recognize that powerful body. Bruce carried me to shore, both of us dripping wet while I coughed. “I thought I made myself clear the last time we did this, Warrior Lisa,” he growled. I opened my eyes to see all the female wolves now on their knees and their heads tilted in submission. “HOW MANY TIMES MUST I TELL YOU TO LEAVE THE OMEGA ALONE?” he roared. They all whimpered in submission, baring their necks even more, but Bruce was furious. Quinn stood behind the females, his hand resting on the knife attached to his thigh, and a deadly look shone in his eyes. I began squirming in Bruce’s arms because his protection wasn’t helping me. I was the lowest of the low. No matter what he did, he couldn’t stop them from coming after me. That’s how it worked in a pack, and I just wanted to get away. “L-Let me go!” I pleaded. “Stay still!” he ordered, and his command made me grow lax right away before he turned to the others. “You’re all kneeling outside all day and night with no food.” I gasped at him, shaking my head, but Bruce wasn’t paying attention to me. He was focused on the females on the ground still baring their necks in submission. He walked past them, not sparing them a second glance as he carried me away. “P-Please, take back the punishment!” I whispered pleadingly. “Why would I do that? That wouldn’t make me a good Alpha.” “It’s just hierarchy!” I reminded him. “Exactly, this is hierarchy, and as Alpha, I can decide to put them in their place,” he pointed out. “Not for my sake!” “No, it’s to create order in the pack,” he said, yet his jaw was tense as he said it. “Then just put me down.” “No.” “Alpha, you can’t carry me!” I whispered. “I can and I will. We are going to the infirmary to get you checked.” “I’m fine! I swear!” “Yes, you said the same thing to Quinn earlier, which is why I don’t trust your words,” he replied, walking through the woods with me in his arms and Quinn by his side. I leaned my head back, knowing I had no choice but to listen to his command.
