Chapter 4

-Bruce- We witnessed them dragging Ana into the woods from the window in my office, and Quinn and I reacted swiftly. However, the sight of what was unfolding sent a chill down my spine. I felt a surge of anger, a primal urge to retaliate against those who dared lay a hand on Ana. Yet, I knew that resorting to mass murder wouldn’t establish me as a good Alpha. Instead, I resolved to administer a fitting punishment as I escorted Ana inside to assess her condition. We had a hospital wing built within the house. While werewolves typically didn’t fall ill, injuries, accidents, and attacks still occurred, sometimes necessitating medical attention. Ana resisted my assistance, fearing it would worsen her situation, but I knew that if I hadn’t intervened, she would have drowned. Why hadn’t I known Ana couldn’t swim? I felt a pang of shame that, as her Alpha, I hadn’t been aware of this detail about her. Yet, as I observed her struggle, it became apparent that it was a vulnerability they had exploited. The automatic doors of the hospital wing opened, and Ana grew increasingly anxious. However, instead of asking me to release her, she buried her nose in my neck. Her inhalation sent a jolt of pleasure coursing through me. That’s it, I thought, let her scent her Alpha. I was tempted to press her against the wall and claim her, but I resisted the urge and instructing Quinn to fetch the pack doctor. I took Ana inside, opting to hold her on my lap instead of placing her on the examination table. Gradually, she began to relax against me, her breathing becoming steadier. Instead of pulling away, she leaned closer. I sensed her subtle movements and turned my head to find her gazing up at me with those captivating green eyes. I felt an overwhelming desire to kiss her, to taste her. There were so many things I wanted to do to her, but I couldn’t. Yet, despite my resolve, I found myself inching closer. I was teetering on the edge. Like Quinn, I was acutely aware of how close I was to claiming her as mine, and resisting became increasingly difficult. “Alpha,” she whispered, her voice sending a surge of arousal through me. I was doomed, and I knew it. I leaned toward her, only for the door to open, shattering the moment. I turned my head to see the pack doctor stop not far from us, casting glances between us, but I couldn’t care less. The week would be over before we knew it, and then no one could question our connection. “What happened?” Filip asked. “She almost drowned.” “Drowned?” “Someone tried to drown her,” Quinn explained. Filip nodded, then gestured to the table. “Could you put her down, Alpha Bruce?” I didn’t want to. Every fiber of my being screamed to hold on, but Quinn met my gaze, and slowly I set her down. Ana began shivering immediately, and I went to fetch her a blanket, remaining by her side, with Quinn drawing closer too. Our proximity made it difficult for Filip to work. “Um, could you two step back a little? I can’t really work with you making a wall around her,” he chuckled, evidently noticing our possessive behavior. I reluctantly took a step back, and Quinn followed suit, though it didn’t alleviate much. “Five more, and there might be room,” Filip teased. I sighed, complying with his request, and Quinn, though equally displeased, followed Filip’s instructions as well. “This is truly unnecessary. I’m fine!” Ana insisted. “Don’t believe her. She always says that even when she is bleeding,” Quinn informed Filip, and Ana glared at him. When he met her gaze, she glanced down in submission. Filip grabbed her bandaged hand. It would have to be changed now since it was wet. “When did this happen?” “Today.” “As well?” Filip asked, shocked. Quinn nodded. “I took care of it.” Filip shook his head. It was sadly not the first time Ana was here, but hopefully, it would be the last. Once she became ours, things were going to change around her. However, Filip, as a doctor, had vowed always to heal and never to harm. Therefore, he didn’t look down on Ana for her father’s actions. He simply began working around her, both Quinn and I on edge as another man worked around her. He was too old for her, but our instincts didn’t care. It put us on edge. “Alpha Bruce, I need you to stop growling while I listen to her breathing,” Filip warned me, turning to me, and slowly the others did too. I cleared my throat, not even having noticed I was growling. That’s how little I enjoyed this situation. Filip shook his head, but a smile was on his lips as he worked. Soon, he stepped away from Ana, going to his computer to type away. This was mine and Quinn’s opening, and we came closer, placing ourselves on either side of her. “So?” I questioned. “She is all right, and I have changed the bandage. But I recommend a warm bath and some new clothes for her, so she doesn’t continue being so wet and cold,” Filip said. I glanced at Quinn, and immediately we agreed on something. “So we can take her out of here?” I inquired. “Yes, you can.” Ana hopped down from the table, and with my hand on her lower back, I guided her out of there, with Quinn following us. He walked behind her as we returned to the busier parts of the house, people glancing at us as we walked with Ana, who was still wrapped in the blanket. Her lips had gone blue, but some color had come back to her cheeks. “I-I should return home now before dinner needs to be made,” she whispered and began heading for the entrance of the house, but I cut in front of her, almost herding her toward the stairs. “Alpha Bruce what are you doing?” “Just Bruce or Alpha. I think I actually prefer if you just call me Alpha,” I informed her. “Um, all right, Alpha, what are you doing?” she asked. “You go that way,” I told her, pointing to the stairs leading to the next floor. She glanced up, not understanding, but these were the doctor’s orders. “I don’t get it. My house is far from here,” she pointed out. “Yes, and before you reach your house, you will have lost feeling in all your limbs.” “I don’t think that is accurate.” “Are you questioning your Alpha?” I challenged with an amused tone, but Ana grew pale before shaking her head. “O-Of course not.” “Then it’s that way, little Omega.” She glanced over her shoulder again before she turned, nodding obediently, and walked up the stairs. Quinn and I exchanged glances as we followed behind her. Yes, we were exploiting her vulnerable position. I couldn’t admit we were the best Alpha and Beta in that moment, but could anyone blame us? We had held ourselves in check for so long. We just wanted to give in a little. As Ana reached the top of the stairs, I waved her along and took the lead. She followed me to the next floor as well, and then down a hallway to my room. She let out a little gasp and stopped, crashing against Quinn who was walking behind her. I turned my head, seeing how big her eyes had grown. “Um, t-that is your room,” she pointed out. “Yes.” “W-Why are we going in there?” “Because you heard the doctor. You need new clothes and a warm bath.” “I-I have that at home.” “Warm water too?” I inquired, seeing her glance at the ground. “No? Then you will use my bathroom.” “I really don’t… Beta Quinn!” she exclaimed, and I glanced over my shoulder, seeing Quinn had grasped her hips and pushed her forward, not wanting to wait. Neither did I. She almost stumbled into the room, and Quinn closed the door behind us. Ana stood right in the middle of us, trapped, and she kept glancing back and forth. “Um…” It was obvious we all felt the tension, and I glanced over her head at Quinn, seeing how he was almost shaking now that we had her alone. “Bathroom is there,” I said, pointing to the closed door further away, breaking the tension because I knew we were close to losing it. “O-Okay,” she replied, not able to say no to me and walked toward the bathroom. As she reached it, I called out, “Will you need help?” “What?” she spun around in the doorway, and I smiled smugly at her. “Absolutely not!” She slammed the door shut, and I chuckled before turning to Quinn, his eyes shining. Yes, there was a good chance we might not be able to stay completely away, knowing she was naked in the other room.
