SELENE'S POV
Kira, whose arms and legs were wrapped around Thorin, suddenly broke away from him when her eyes met mine. She looked like she had seen a ghost; it was obvious she didn’t expect to see me.
“Kira!” I exclaimed in shock, my hands instinctively moving up to cover my mouth.
Impossible, it can’t be my sister on the bed with my mate on the night of our anniversary. I stood like a frozen pillar, my mind devoid of any reaction to give to what was happening in front of me.
“How in the hell is she here again?” I heard Thorin murmur as he prepared to step down from the bed.
I saw the shock in his expression when he stood up from the bed and turned around to face me. I thought maybe I would see something else in his eyes, but I saw nothing. I didn’t see remorse in his expression; that was the only thing it lacked.
“How did you get out? I ordered for you to be dumped into the dungeon,” Thorin said to me.
That was the only thing that he could say after I caught him in bed with my sister on the night of our anniversary.
To think that he just falsely accused me of cheating with a total stranger, but here he was in bed with my sister, Kira. I was shattered, too shattered to even open my mouth.
A single tear escaped my eye when my eyes darted from Thorin to my sister, and I slowly shook my head in disappointment and disbelief.
She struggled to wrap the bedspread around herself before standing to her feet. Just as quickly as she stood up from the bed, the remorseful look on her face faded and was replaced by a smile.
“How many times have I told you to knock whenever coming into my room?” Kira said, a twisted smile playing on her lips as she strolled towards me.
“Maybe if you had listened and followed that simple instruction, maybe you wouldn’t have found out this heartbreaking reality," Kira said.
"The truth is, he has never loved you like he loves me,” she whispered to my face as she stood in close distance from me.
While she spoke, I noticed that Alpha Thorin was in distress, probably thinking about the implications of what I had discovered - the conspiracy to make me look like a traitor to the pack and send me to my grave so that he could have my sister.
“You dare come back out of that dungeon after being caught sleeping with an enemy?!” Thorin said through his clenched teeth, as it seemed like he finally found something to say after a few moments of thinking.
It took me just a second to be filled with anger because of that statement he made, and without thinking about the consequences, I landed a slap on his face.
For the first time in my life, I raised my hand against an alpha, and it was no other but the man I thought loved me, but turned out to be having an affair with my sister all the while.
Kira covered her mouth the moment she heard the slap I landed on Thorin’s face. Even she, a beta, couldn’t try it. She knew the implications; she knew the penalty.
Alpha Thorin raised his head as the shock he took from my slap began to fade slowly. He was in shock and couldn’t even react to the slap just yet; he still couldn’t believe that an omega like me just slapped him.
“I will have your head for this,” he said to me, and I could see his eyes turning red with the authority of an Alpha. Just as he was walking closer to me, Kira placed a hand on his shoulder, almost seductively, and he stopped, the reddened eyes turning back to its original form just by her touch.
“My love, don’t waste your energy on this rag. Remember she is just an omega, more like a slave to the pack, remember? That was why you could no longer be with her in the first place,” Kira said to Thorin in a whisper.
“Remember what you told me? You told me she irritates you, you told me that you could not even stand her being close to you, you told me she was weak and worthless, and the only reason that you were still with her was because the goddess forbade you from taking another mate,” Kira whispered to him in front of me, and my heart sank.
She wanted me to hear it all; that was exactly what she was doing. She wanted to break me, and it was working.
“Yes, you are right; she is indeed worthless. I just sit sometimes and wish that I found you first, my love, I wouldn’t have been stuck with this weak worm called a Luna. I stopped loving her right after our wedding night; I just couldn’t find a way to get rid of her,” Thorin said back to Kira.
They weren’t looking at me; they pretended that they were talking to each other, but I knew they were talking to me. My heart shattered, and I was consumed by bitterness.
“You really think I am worthless after everything I did for you?” I said to him, and he huffed, turning his attention back to me this time. He folded his arms to his chest and smirked. Kira walked up to stand by his side.
“Pardon me, you are not worthless, I’m sorry, you are the most worthless thing I had ever come across in my position as the alpha. Even the other omegas are far stronger than you; you know what I am talking about,” he said, and my heart shattered further.
“If you are still weaker than an omega should be, then I don’t even know what you are because you are definitely not deserving to be called a wolf. You are just some huge waste of space in my pack," Alpha Thorin whispered coldly to my face.
"Apart from the fact that I have been playing around with you to get the goddess’ favor, you should also know exactly how irrelevant you are in the pack, a pathetic weakling who always needs someone to depend on,” he said to me, and I was forced to close my eyes.
The pain I felt at that moment was excruciating. The man I thought loved me was saying all these to me without thinking back.
“Aren’t you even ashamed of yourself? I had thought that maybe after treating you exactly like the piece of rag that you are, you would prefer to die in that dungeon than to come out."
"For crying out loud, I embarrassed you in front of the elders and everyone who had once called you Luna, I spat on you literally...” he said, warming up for more.
“But no, you decided to be shameless and run back to me like a dog, desperate for affection which you didn’t deserve to have in the first place," he said to my face and tears flowed down my eyes silently.
"I’m sorry to say that I found everything I have ever wanted in your sister, she is smart, strong and powerful, strong-willed and capable on her own, not a dependent puppy like you,” he said, and my heart took the last stroke that made me wince in pain.
“The moon goddess did give me a condition. She stated that I could only take another mate if I lost you to the grip of death. She didn’t specify how it should happen, so I thought to myself, why don’t I just take your life myself, but it would be forbidden also, but do you know what wasn’t?”
“Letting you be killed because of your betrayal to the pack,” he said to me, and I stood there in shock.
I was filled with hurt, anger, and betrayal, and it clouded my mind. The only thing I could think of was getting out of that place as fast as I could, knowing that they both wanted me dead. I knew that they wouldn’t let me walk out with every secret they had shared.
I held onto the bedspread that covered me tightly.
I slowly took a few steps back while trying to maintain eye contact with them, but my plan to escape was short-lived when I heard Alpha Thorin talking to my sister, Kira.
“I know she is your sister, but you know the oath forbids me from doing it. If I kill her with my own hands, I die too. You just have to do it; we can’t let her get away with everything that she has heard,” he whispered to her, and my heart throbbed faster as Kira began to approach me.
“I don’t care about her; I thought you would never ask,” Kira said, and at that point, her eyes lit up as she charged after me.
I turned around quickly and ran through the door into the very dark woods. My heart was pounding, and I felt like my legs couldn’t even carry me.
Kira was chasing with everything she had as a beta, and I was just like her prey. Thorin joined in when he noticed that I might outrun Kira. His speed as an alpha was out of this world, and he was closing in.
Suddenly, in an attempt I made to escape the forest, I tripped on a twig and fell face-flat.
He was coming...
I could see his red eyes glowing in the dark as he ran with speed towards me. His aim was to hit me down and then let Kira kill me.
I was so frightened, my entire body trembling in fear as I watched him draw closer, my legs tangled up within the twine of the twigs, preventing me from standing back to my feet.
"Please!!" I cried out loud, hoping he would reconsider, but he didn't stop.
All of a sudden, just in the moment Alpha Thorin and Kira were just a few steps away, a strong hand from within the darker region of the forest gripped my hand tightly, and then I heard a whisper from a calm and chilling male voice, saying “Give me your hand, I’ll protect you...”
