SELENE'S POV
My heart beat really fast as I looked around and saw omegas surrounding me slowly, following Thorin’s command to take me and drag me into the dungeon, letting me rot because he believed I slept with an enemy.
Tears kept streaming down my eyes, but in the midst of it all, I remembered a name, Kira.
She was the only possible person who could talk sense into the alpha, as she was his beta and my older sister, the only family I had left. She would always believe me.
“No, don’t touch me! Thorin, you can’t let them take me; I need to see my sister!”
“I need to talk to Kira!” I shouted in a plea to Thorin, who stood there turning a deaf ear to me as my fellow omegas dragged me away from the depth of the forest. My heart was heavy seeing how numb Thorin was to my pleas, believing completely that I was capable of the act.
“Kira!” I shouted, not seeing any sign of her. Not all pack members were present at that moment in the woods, and I realized that Kira was probably in her room, having no idea that her beloved sister was being dragged into the dungeon.
“Thorin, Thorin, please,” I kept pleading, but he didn’t say a word or regard my plea. He stood there in the midst of the elders who had accompanied him to the place, his arms folded to his chest as he looked at me in disgust.
I was dragged roughly until we got to the door of the dungeon, and then the omegas who were holding onto me threw me into the dark, scary hole protected by strong iron bars.
I could no longer find tears to shed; the bedspread that was wrapped around me remained the only piece of clothing that clung to me, already soaked with my tears.
I was frightened by the darkness, scared about how my life would end, thinking about how Thorin turned his back on me so easily after the promises he made to me the previous night.
He told me he would never be the cause of my pain, swore to always love and protect me.
“I didn’t do it,” I whispered to myself, breaking down to my knees. I fell into confusion about how all this came to be. The stranger from the Black Fang Pack, sent by someone, had achieved his aim.
“I need to find a way out, I need to find Kira,” I murmured to myself. With tears still clinging to my face, I picked up my broken self from the floor where I knelt in the dark room of the dungeon. There was a lamp there, but it was really dim, and I still had to strain my eyes before seeing anything.
I gently trudged towards the bars, and then I suddenly heard my wolf’s voice...
“Selene!”
“Selene, you can’t go out there; your mate will have them kill you if he sees you’re trying to escape,” Aliya said in my head. She was also as weak as I was at that moment; I could hear her ragged breaths.
“You finally showed up; where were you when all the chaos happened? Why didn’t you alert me when Thorin left the mat and a total stranger took his place? I would have known and...” I said to her in my head as I tried to find a way to get out, observing the chains that bound the door.
“I’m sorry, just like you fell asleep in the arms of Alpha Thorin, so I got lost in his wolf; you can’t blame me,” she said in my head, and I sighed bitterly.
“What is the plan?” Aliya asked in my head, and I sighed as I tried to pull at the chains. I didn’t actually have a plan per se, but the moment she asked, I came up with the exact steps I wanted to take.
“I have to get out of here, find my sister Kira, and then she can help me talk to the alpha; I can’t live without him, he is the only man I have ever loved,” I said to Aliya, and then there was silence from her end, as if what I said made no sense to her.
“The Alpha rejected you; his wolf rejected me too... He won’t take us back. Did you see how he hit you? He has never hit you that way; he doesn’t love you anymore; it is not about him thinking you cheated with an enemy,” Aliya said, and at that point, I cried out a “stop it!”
Her words hurt me more than I thought. It burnt like fire; the thought of her believing that the alpha’s rejection ran deeper hurt me more than I had anticipated.
“No, that’s not true. He will take me back, okay; he will take me back once he finds out that I had nothing to do with that stranger and I was just set up. He trusts Kira’s judgment; Kira knows I would never do something like this, especially not on the night of my anniversary with the alpha,” I said to Aliya.
Immediately after pushing out her opinion, her voice receded from my head. I could no longer hear her voice as she retreated for that moment.
I couldn’t imagine a life without him; if he could just believe me, even without him apologizing, I would want him back so desperately. I couldn’t just give up on our love.
After several attempts to break off the chain guarding the door, I couldn’t. I felt like time was running out on me; I needed to prove myself, and I couldn’t do that without getting out of the dungeon. I slumped to my knees after exhausting all my energy.
Suddenly, I heard Aliya’s voice come back up in my head like a whisper.
“Selene, look...” she said, and I turned around as I could feel her nudging in that direction.
After turning around, I saw nothing but the darkness that covered that end of the dungeon.
“I can’t see anything, Aliya; what is it?” I said to her curiously.
“There, I think there is a passage out of here, through the backdoor. I don’t think it is guarded,” she said, and I huffed as I reluctantly moved into the shadows covering the back door. I knew they wouldn’t put me in a dungeon that wasn’t well guarded.
But to my surprise, I extended just a finger towards the backdoor reluctantly, with hopes of proving to Aliya that it was locked, and it creaked open instantly, causing the cool night air to waft over my face. I gasped in shock as I stood there.
“Let’s go, now!” Aliya shouted in my head, and I nodded.
“Thank you, moon goddess,” I whispered at the unbelievable chance.
After rushing out and sneaking back into the pack, I knew my sister was the first person I needed to find.
It was not going to be difficult, since she was always in her house within the alpha’s quarters.
Reaching her door, I was just about to knock, but my hand froze in the air when I heard sounds coming from within Kira’s room. I stood at the front door and could not hear actual words.
"She's obviously at home, I think you should go in now before the guards find you out here," Aliya said to me and I nodded.
Pushing the door slightly with just a finger, I saw the living room, which was empty, prompting me to step inside curiously in search of my sister. I was beginning to get worried for her.
I wanted to call out her name as I approached the bedroom door, but something held my tongue. I could hear murmurs coming from two voices.
My brows furrowed in confusion when I heard two familiar voices conversing...
One was clearly Kira’s voice, but the other, the male voice... It sounded familiar, but part of me couldn’t allow me to process it yet.
The voices grew even louder and the familiarity became disturbing, piquing my curiosity to push the door. But once again, something held me in place. It was Kira’s voice, speaking to whoever was with her.
“I told you it would work; I told you we could get my sister out of the way with this plan.”
“You are right; we should have done this a long time ago. Now the elders and the entire pack are against her, which means I can have you all to myself.”
“She’s going to rot in that dungeon, cause even the elders of the pack have turned their backs on her. Now they can’t stop me from taking another Luna while Selene still lives.”
“Oh, I thought you would ask for her to be banished.”
“Banishment won’t guarantee she’ll stay out of my life forever. You know how much of a fool your sister Selene can be for love; she would keep chasing me. So sentencing her to live her days in that dark pit is the best option.”
My vision blurred, and my mouth dropped open in shock as I pushed the door open. I couldn't believe what I saw: my mate, Alpha Thorin, who had just rejected me, was lying in bed with my sister Kira. Her head rested on his bare chest.
