SELENE'S POV
It was happening again. Somehow, I felt like I was back in that forest, running and trying to escape the two people who were after my life for all the wrong reasons.
It was almost like an out-of-body experience. I felt like I was standing by the corner, just watching from a distance as it all happened. The events of that horrible night continued to replay over and over again, like a never-ending circle. Everything happened just as it did in real life, except this time there was no help coming for me. This time there was no strange hand showing up to my rescue, nor was there an unknown, cold, and chill male voice whispering a promise to protect me. No. This time I got caught by Thorin and Kira, and I could clearly hear their voices as they mocked and laughed in my face, telling me this was the end of the road for me. I could hear myself crying and begging them to stop, to let me go. But my words were met with nothing but deaf ears. It was at the very moment when they were both about to pounce on me that I jolted up in bed and realized it was just a dream. A nightmare caused by the memories of the horrors I experienced last night at the hands of the two people I loved and cherished the most.
At first, I was a bit calm, still recovering from the horrors of the nightmare. I was breathing heavily and was basically drowning in a pool of my own sweat. I found myself wishing over and over again that it was just a horrible nightmare and nothing more. I found myself wishing that it never actually happened, that it wasn't real. But even as I continued to wish for that, deep down I still knew better.
I could feel my head aching. It was pounding so bad it almost felt like there was a cage match going down up there. I clutched my head tightly in my hands as I groaned loudly in pain.
As I felt the effects of the nightmare start to wear off, I began to become more and more aware of my surroundings. I was sitting on a bed in what looked like a hospital room, with the walls painted white and the windows completely shut.
I felt panic instantly take over as I realized I had no idea where I was or how I got there. The last memory I had was of when I got desperate enough to take the hand of that stranger and allow him to pull me away from the people on my tail.
I remember landing on a rock-hard chest a few seconds later and then suddenly felt my eyes roll into the back of my head. That was it. I don't remember anything else from that moment.
Did I pass out in the arms of a total stranger? Did he bring me here? If so, then where exactly is this place? Why did he bring me here? What does he plan to do with me?
The questions continued to flood in as I shifted on the bed, frantically looking around the room for any sign of familiarity. I found myself panicking even more when I couldn't find any. Nothing in this room looked familiar; everything just looked completely strange.
"Aliya,"
"Aliya? Aliya, are you there?"
"Aliya, I _ I think we're in trouble."
I called out to my wolf, the only one I could trust and count on at a moment like this.
My eyes started to tear up when I was met with silence. She wasn't answering. Why? Why wouldn't she answer?
"Aliya?" I tried once more as I continued to look around the room.
Then suddenly the door burst open, and my eyes widened in panic as a group of people I'd never met in my life started rushing in, heading directly for my bed.
I soon shook myself out of my panicked state and sprang into action. I quickly scrambled out of bed, almost face-planting on the floor when one of my ankles got caught up in the sheets. My frantic eyes darted to the door that was left open, and I tried to make a run for it only to be stopped by one of them as they got in my way, blocking my escape.
I could see their lips moving as they slowly approached me, gesturing wildly with their hands. But I couldn't, for the life of me, get myself to calm down enough to hear what they were trying to say. My ears were ringing so badly I felt like my head was about to explode. I could only see movements, but I heard nothing. I couldn't hear through all that ringing in my ears.
All I saw was that the people in white coats were starting to close in on me.
"No. No, please. Please!"
"Don't—don't come any closer, get away from me!"
"Let me go! Don't touch me!"
I continued to yell frantically like an insane person as I shifted closer and closer to the wall in an effort to get away from them. By now my eyes were overflowing with tears, and there was nothing I could do to stop them from falling.
I soon found myself cornered as my back came in contact with the white wall behind me.
"Aliya,"
I cried out in a low, trembling voice for what felt like the very last time as I slowly slid down the wall until I was sitting on the cold, bare floor with my knees pulled up against my chest. Realizing I had nowhere else to run, I buried my face in my arms and wept as I saw that they were now standing right in front of me.
"Please."
I pleaded once more through my tears. And that was when I heard it. The very thing I'd been hearing since that door first opened.
"What the hell is going on here?!"
The cold yet familiar voice thundered through the room, its effect instantly sending shivers of fear down my spine. I stiffened at the sound of the voice and found myself shrinking further into myself, not daring to lift my head to see who it belonged to.
I was beyond terrified. I wanted to disappear. I wanted to die.
Why? Why me? Why does it have to be me? I didn't do anything wrong. I never wronged anyone.
Why?
What is going to happen now? What would become of me? What does he plan to do with me?...
