Chapter 1

SELENE’S POV

I stirred from my sleep the moment I felt his kiss on the back of my neck.

I giggled even as I still felt sleepy. My cheeks flushed as he cuddled me tightly from behind.

I rolled over on the mat sprawled across the floor of the forest. It was pretty dark, so I couldn't really make out his face instantly.

Turning fully to him and about to place a kiss on his lips, I was startled to see a stranger lying there in front of me, completely unclothed just like I was. I gasped in shock.

“What th-”

“You are not my mate, you're not the alpha, who are you?!” I said in fear as I quickly jolted up to sit, moving my hands up and down in a failed attempt to cover my nakedness.

It was a total stranger who had been trailing those kisses down my neck, not the alpha who I was with before sleeping off.

“No, no, no...” I said in panic, hitting the naked man beside me who had a smile on his face. Confusion and fear gripped me as he refused to say a word to me. I couldn’t understand. Alpha Thorin was supposed to be the one there behind me, not this man.

“Stop smiling and tell me who you are!!” I screamed in anger as I became lost at what was happening. Did this man sleep with me? Almost like he could read my thoughts, he answered the tormenting question in my mind.

“Don’t worry, I promise I didn’t touch you. I was only paid to make this look real in front of everyone like you slept with me, making you a traitor,” he said, and I froze, unable to understand what was happening.

Clasping my head in frustration, I tried to comprehend what he meant. My heart was throbbing really fast.

“Paid to make it look real in front of who?!” I said, pushing him off, and then he fell on his back. But then a smile formed on his face as he rose back up to sit. I also didn’t understand what he meant by making me look like a traitor.

“You are about to find out, and so you know... It is nothing personal for me. I was only paid to do this, I totally have nothing against you,” he said, and just as I was about to get up, get my clothes, and walk out of his presence before more crazy things happened, I heard footsteps surrounding us. The footsteps moved really quickly.

With a pounding heart, my eyes darted into the woods surrounding us as the footsteps grew closer. Then I saw flashes from different corners of the wood. That moment, I grabbed the bedspread quickly and held it onto my chest tightly.

And then, just before I could get up, my mouth dropped open at the man who walked in on us. My heart stopped instantly as my eyes met his angry form approaching.

It was him, my mate, Alpha Thorin. My heart thundered in fear as he saw me sitting naked on a mat with another man.

Standing at my feet and wrapping the bedspread around my body, I couldn’t speak or move. Other pack members were walking into the scene, shock and betrayal written on their faces. Even after covering myself, I still felt naked under their gazes.

“Th-Thorin... I- I know what th-th- this looks like, but it isn’t true. It isn’t what it looks like....” I stammered, seeing the anger and pain in his eyes as he stared at me, his eyes darting between me and the naked man who was now standing next to me, still trying to kiss me even though he had put me in this situation.

“Stay away from me, you monster!” I shouted at him, tears welling in my eyes after pushing him away from me. Everyone was quiet, including Alpha Thorin, still in shock.

The stranger was not done yet; he still wanted it to look like I really had something to do with him.

He turned his back around and zoomed off with his wolf speed, as if trying to escape Alpha Thorin’s wrath. I gasped, covering my mouth after seeing the tattoo of a black fang on his back.

He was a member of the Black Fang Pack, a rival pack, the very one that had killed the former alpha, Thorin’s father. This meant that he was an enemy to my entire pack. My hand fell off my mouth when I saw the pack members closing in on me. What was happening?

Alpha Thorin walked out with pain and bitterness in his eyes, shaking his head in disappointment as he walked up to stand in front of me.

His teeth clenched when he looked at me from my face down to my feet and up again. He was clearly irritated by the sight of me, which hurt me so much, knowing I didn’t do what he was thinking.

“Selene, how could you?” he said coldly, his heart aching in pain. Seeing him in that manner, tears streamed down my face instantly in embarrassment.

“Thorin, I swear, I- I did nothing with that man, I have never seen him before, you must believe me. I- I- I- just woke thinking you were the one beside me, only to find out that y-y you weren’t there and instead, it-it- it was him, a total stranger,” I said, but the remaining words in my mouth were cut short by the thunderous slap he landed on my face. My face turned violently, and I almost lost balance.

“You dare look into my face and lie to me, after everything I just saw?! You are so shameless, Selene, I thought I could trust you,” Thorin said.

I still held onto my cheek as it felt almost like his hand left a mark, but that wasn’t my greatest pain at that point. What pained me the most was the fact that he really thought I cheated and still tried to lie to him.

Tears flowed from my eyes effortlessly as I tried to explain to him. I fell to my knees in front of him, grabbed his leg, and cried on him to listen to me. He was the only man I had ever loved, and I couldn’t have even stood the touch of another man.

“Please, Thorin, please... you have to listen to me, I beg of you,” I cried, as he stood still, staring at me where I was at his feet without any sign of the love we had shared.

“You know you are all I want, I can never be close to any other man. Can’t you see this was a setup?! I didn’t do what you are accusing me of, please, Thorin...” I cried in pain, feeling so embarrassed at the gazes of the pack members.

“You are so shameless, I never thought I got a wh*re as a mate,” he spat, literally spitting on my back, and his words tore into my heart like an arrow, ripping my heart into pieces.

I couldn’t believe he called me a shameless wh*re for something I didn’t even do.

He knew he was the one who I spent the night with. I didn’t even know when he left before the stranger replaced him. How could he not believe me?

“Let me know, Selene, did it actually feel better to cheat on me with an enemy? To think that among everyone there is, you could have done this with, you chose a member of the Black Fang Pack, Wow, the same people you knew killed my father,” Thorin said, and I cried even harder.

It was truly a member of the Black Fang Pack that killed Alpha Magnus, Thorin’s father. Now I understood what the stranger meant by he was going to make me look like a traitor, but I still could not understand why or who paid him to set me up.

“You did not only betray my love for you, you betrayed the entire pack,” he said to my face, his eyes reddening.

“No, no, Thorin, I didn’t cheat on you, not with him, not with anybody, why can’t you understand that this was a setup, please!”

"That man was paid to do this," I cried, and he tightened his jaw.

At that moment, his irritation only grew and he kicked me off his feet, like he was trying to get rid of a stain. My heart was bruised by his actions.

"Shut up, Selene," Thorin said. I cried further as I rushed back to his feet to beg for understanding, even after he just kicked me away like a piece of rag.

“You are nothing but a cheap wh*re who doesn’t deserve to be my Luna, nor a part of this pack. I curse the day I found you,” Thorin said, and then he spat on me after withdrawing his feet from my grasp once more. He was treating me like a disease.

“You are a shame to this pack, a shame to me, a shame to the title of a Luna, above all, a shame to your late mother,” he said, and I closed my eyes in great humiliation as tears streamed down my face.

He wasn’t going to listen to me, no one would in the situation I found myself. It looked like what they were all thinking, even though I had no idea where that man came from and also knew he didn’t touch me.

Tears filled my eyes as I looked into Thorin's eyes once more, my hands put together in a plea. I knew that it was going to be difficult for anyone to believe, but I knew that if his love for me was true then he would believe that I would never betray him, especially not on the night of our 1st anniversary.

“I reject you, Selene Stefano!” Alpha Thorin said and my sight darkened in shock. I couldn’t hear my heartbeat for seconds. Tears streamed down my eyes, my mouth wide open.

“Thorin please, you c-can’t do this to me,” I pleaded, the sheets covering me were soaked in tears.

“I reject you as my mate and I strip you of the title of Luna...”

“You will be thrown into the dungeon and suffer a fate worse than death for your betrayal to the pack, sleeping with an enemy,” he said with authority and I covered my mouth in shock, tears streaming down.

“Seize her!”
