Ch. 5:Friend Time

Finley POV:

I was still in shock. Her mother left me a bracelet. A beautiful gold bracelet with some kind of stone attached to it. I swore when I put it on the stone shone brighter but figured my eyes were just a bit glossy making it seem that way.

Cora didn’t know much about the bracelet or why her grandmother left for me. She never saw it growing up and didn’t remember her family talking about it. It had come with a letter but I had yet to read it. I probably should have read it before putting it on. With my luck it is some magical cuff that doesn’t allow me to shift or something like that.

I decided to focus on the girls and our food while putting everything else to the side. Later tonight when I was laying on her couch I would process what my father and twin were doing to me. I would read the letter first in hopes it had good news and the bracelet was magical and it would save me instead of me having to save myself.

“Ok enough serious talk. That cheese pizza is calling my name along with the root beer and cheese sticks.” Lia clapped her hands together with a glint in her eyes. “Who wants to play come cards while we eat?”

“f**k that. You always win. I swear you cheat somehow.” Cora shook her head. “Let’s talk about what happened at school between the science teacher and Tanner. I bet the Alpha is going to fire the teacher and put Tanner to work. I overheard Tanner tell Tish his dad was sick of having to bail him out of trouble.”

I snorted and got up. “I will grab the pizza and paper plates and we will talk in the living room. Cora pick out a movie we have seen before so its just on in the background. Lia, can you make the drinks and bring them?”

“Look at who just got bossy?” Cora teased with a smile. “I am proud of you.”

“Me too. Finley, you are so strong and one day you will make another pack one hell of a warrior or gamma.” Lia headed to the kitchen.

My eyes glossed over as I fought the tears. I really did hope I would join a pack who would appreciate me and I could put all my efforts into making it better. I was scared that most packs were like this one. I couldn’t protect a pack that treated any pack member the way this one had done me. It just showed how weak and pathetic they were. I always dreamed a rogue attack would happen and take out the Alpha. No such luck though.

It wasn’t long before we had ate most of the pizza and had talked ourselves out with all the drama and tea we knew. I was so stuffed I could barely move. Lia was talking about dessert while Cora groaned every time a food was mentioned.

“Ok, no more food talk. Let’s gauge where we are at for the night. We ready for another movie or are we ready for bed?” I tried to turn on my side on the couch to face them but didn’t have the energy. “No nodding. Use your words. My fat ass can’t roll over.”

“Well, you did eat a whole pizza by yourself.” Lia teased from her spot on the oversized chair.

“I think-“Cora was interrupted by the doorbell.

I sat straight up my energy renewing at fear and panic ran through me. “Are you expecting anyone else?”

“She shook her head as the doorbell went off again. “Hide, Finley. In the closet over there.” She whispered, getting up and cleaning the crumbs off her close. “I will get rid of them.”

I did as she said running to the closet behind the couch and softly shutting the door behind me. I heard her pull the door open as I dug my way to the back of the closet pulling the blankets all around me. I had to hope the smell of the clean blankets and the wood of the closer would hide my own scent.

“Hello, Mr. Mclane. Brody.” Cora said sweetly. Lia repeated the same thing probably standing beside her to help block the door.

“Hello Cora. Are your parents home?” My father's voice was tight and I instantly knew he was fishing for something. I also know he was pissed off and it was probably my fault.

“No Sir they aren't. They're visiting my brother’s pack for the night. They should be home sometime tomorrow if you wish to speak to them.” Cora's voice sounded a bit panicked. “Not to be rude but we're having a girl's night and we were just getting ready to paint our toenails.”

I knew my dad was probably groaning inside his head. He hated anything girly especially if it was doing something that didn't help the pack. He had ran off a few of my brother's conquests when they would talk about girly stuff. I learned the hard way when I mentioned that I needed some fingernail Polish one time and he hit me hard enough to bleed telling me to use that to paint my nails.

“I'm sure I'll catch them sometime tomorrow period since you're having a girl's night I'm assuming my daughter is here?” I could hear the contempt in his voice so I already knew my friends would notice it.

“Of course she's going to be here. She's tied to these girls’ hips when she should be working and taking care of the house.” my twin Brody said with disdain.

“She was here earlier but said she had a few things to do. If I see her, I will tell her you stopped by.” Cora’s voice has turned hard just as my stomach turned.

I wanted to beg the Moon Goddess not to be found but if she cared about me at all she wouldn’t have let me go through this.

“No, I will search your house. I don't believe you. You are just pathetic enough to cover for that waste of space.” Brody said like he owned the place. “Move out of the way.”

“I don’t think I want you in my house, Brody. You have so many diseases from the whores you sleep with. Tomorrow when my parents are home you can come in then.” I could hear the door trying to shut. “If you try to come in I will have to call the Beta. He is the one watching out for me tonight and would hate to report you for attacking underage girls.”

I heard a growl and was prepared to jump out and go with them just to keep my friends safe. My father’s voice stopped me. He actually gave in.

“No, its fine. We will find her letter or there will be hell to pay. Have a good night.” Well s**t.

I guess I was leaving tomorrow sometime. Just needed to sneak home for my things and run. Good thing I saved some money and hidden it away.
