I slept with one eye open, feeling like at any moment Sobek would break into my room, and have me thrown off the island. Or worse. But when I woke up the next morning, I found nothing had happened. I rubbed my chest. I need to see a therapist after all this is over. I think the thought of my sister’s death is driving me crazy. I’ve always been detached from the people around me. But these past nineteen years, I’ve spent it by letting myself have normalcy. The cliff was the biggest sign i was very attached to Clion. I could have fallen over.
I threw my legs out of the bed, and rushed to the bathroom. I found myself hurling out the contents of my stomach into the toilet.
I hadn’t eaten anything, so vomiting caused me pain. I wiped my mouth, and just decided to shower.
The clock on the wall of the bathroom showed six am. Two hours before my first class. My cue to start taking a shower now.
Under the hot spray, I allowed the tension to wash off. My spine tingled, and I thought about Clion again.
What I wouldn't give to see her face one last time.
I finally shut off the water, and walked out of the bathroom. My routine didn’t take much time. I packed some items, and some of my sister’s notebooks. She and I were taking the same course. The headmaster had emailed me my schedule personally last night once I returned to my room. Seriously, it feels like the whole situation was like the weirdest trap. He had everything set for me. Like he’d already planned my life in this school. What is it about the Inferno Peak Academy and the Nileborn family that made me want to run away quickly.
I shook my head, and jogged up the stairs. Twisting the doorknob, I heard the hushed whispers that died down once I opened the door. The L trio were waiting there.
“Hey hey, you need a pal to walk you to your first class?” Lucy inquired.
“I’d rather not.” I waved them off, but they stood in my path.
“Please. You said you wanted to be friends. Unless that was a lie….”
I exhaled loudly, and put on a cheery attitude. “Sure, why not?” I don't know how nice people do it. Surely giving everyone an optimistic attitude gets tiring.
Walking with them was awful, they talked too much. About makeup, food, and clothes. All things I was interested in, but it was coming from them. So I felt annoyed. As we got closer to the building where my class was being held, I was ready to run away from them and their chattering whenI heard-
“There’s a party at the Gods of Egypt fraternity on saturday. I know your sister isn’t here, and you don’t want her job- even though it pays- but… they’re the only reason we can keep our sorority. So just come with us, let’s dance, drink, have fun. Mingle with the Nileborn brothers, and we’ll be good.” Lydia added a softness to her tone, that was completely fake. I would have said no…. But this could be my chance to get into the Nileborn brothers’ frat house.
“Sure. I love parties.” I said excitedly.
They cheered. “Yes! Wear whatever, and we’ll see at ten. Pm, not am. On that day, not today. Enjoy your class new friend.”
Enjoy breathing for now. I waved and smiled. When my eyes returned to the building, Sobek was there. His eyes stuck on me, his face held anger, and something very close to fascination.
I wanted to wave to him, but then I recalled my sister’s text. She said she’d had gotten their full attention by trying to ask one of them out. Well s**t, this seems like a golden opportunity.
I rushed up to where he was.
“Hello, are you taking a class here?”
He turned and just walked into the building. Of course I followed him.
“So what’s your deal?” my question was met with silence. I kept pestering him with questions until we reached the class. There was still a few minutes before it officially started. Sobek climbed up the stairs, and stopped at the back. He slid into one of the long benches, and sat by the window. I followed him, cornering him.
*Do you have a death wish?* he signed aggressively.
“No, i just want to get to know you. You saved my life last night. It also doesn’t help that you’re hot.” he froze, then he laughed but again there was no sound.
His face was something else when his face was full of joy, or atleast amusement. I took in his features, his big body with muscles that flexed when he moved. His face was full handsome, and made even better by the long gash drawn across his nose. It had stitches and I wondered how he got such a scar. Not to mention the tattoos on his mouth, and when he laughed I could see that there was another tattoo but it was on his tongue.
His deep espresso brown hair was kept short.
His face and body was so expressive. It was almost like he was capable of more expressions due to his silence. But you know what? Those tattoos were giving off a dark aura. It was like a curse attached to his body.
Is that why he’s quiet? I don’t know, and I don't think it’s safe for the organ in my chest for me to find out.
Sobek wore a tailored jacket, a loose fitting white shirt and pale blue jeans. I got a peak of his chest when he leaned his elbows on the desk. It was an eagle, red in color with a writing on the inside. I couldn’t see what it was.
*You want to get to know me?*
I nod, and bite my lip. Sobek runs his eyes over my body, head to toe. Those intense aquamarines made my body shudder in such a delicious way.
Desire is something I thought was easy to fight off, but f*****g hell. It’s not. Not when it's coming from men like the Nileborns.
*Then let me tell you something about me that's very important.* he c****d his head to the side, leaning closer to me and brushing his hands over my throat for a second before bringing them back so he could sign.
*I will tear anyone to pieces to protect my family, I know you’re not as naive or as nice. I can smell it. No omega has this aura, or those eyes. And when I find out what you really are, I will dispose of you.*
I had lowered my gaze to his hands, and when I brought it back to his face he had a menacing glare that sent my heart into palpitations.
Thankfully the class finally started. So I didn’t have to think of a response.
I turned my attention to the teacher, unsure of what to respond with. I know they definitely did something to my sister.
I kept glancing at him. I didn't really care about passing this class, so I was only half paying attention.
Only one day here and now I can that the devils my sister talked about were the biggest connection to finding her.
Once the class was done, I left first. Sobek watched me. I had thirty minutes before my next class but I wish I'd have noticed the people following me closely.
I had walked past an empty class when a hand reached out, grabbing my neck and dragging me into the room. My claws tore out, and I was ready to rip the person to shreds when I spotted the girl that had helped me with my bags the day before.
She was standing next to a desk, while this hefty fool tossed me onto the table.
“Ah, I was asked to send you a message sweetheart, don’t take this personally.”
The alpha in me wanted to fight the brute off, I could easily throw him off and ask questions but I wanted to take my anger out on an unfortunate soul.
The nameless girl walked up to me, a syringe in hand. The weird green liquid smelled so familiar, i just couldn’t figure out why. “To be honest, you’re not that different from your sister. At the end of the day, you’ll both end up swimming with the fishes.” she laughed.
My eyes slitted, and I growled, sinking my claws into the arm of the brute, the snap made him cry like a baby. His arm pointed the other way.
I took pride in making him cry.
The girl jumped, tossing the syringe away.
“Whoa whoa, relax. It was just a joke.”
I slid off the table.
“So my sister is dead?” I said, my voice was cold.
She turned to run but I got to her fast. Shoving my hand into her head, and pushing her onto the floor.
I gripped a chunk of her hair, pulled her head back and slammed it into the ground even harder. She broke into a cry, I only stared.
I can do worse. I repeated the motion.
Another cracking sound resonated, I hoped it was her jaw. She spat out blood, and teeth.
“Answer me.”
“I don’t know. It’s just speculation. No one really knows what happened. She left one evening after the-” loud footsteps got to my ears. They were loud on purpose. Sending a message to her. She cut off her words instantly.
Shit, I need to go. I rushed off her after leaving a threat to them both.
“You better not say a goddamn thing about this. Or I will f**k you up. I won’t say anything either.”
I grabbed my bag, and went out the window. We were on the second floor, but that wouldn’t have even mattered. I landed on the floor, and brushed off the sand that got onto my blue shorts. I exhaled, and wiped my nose as the smell coming off that syringe was still in my nasal sense. I forgot to ask about that. Who was trying to send me a message?
No one knows why I'm here.
I glanced back up, and there was Nileborn standing by the open window. Staring intently at me. I only know the name of two.
His eyes were confused as they tried to figure something out, and I grinned, moving my hands back and forth to wave. He returned the gesture with a pleasant smile, and walked out of sight.
The only thing I learnt from this was that he showed up the moment that girl was about to tell me the reason why my sister 'left'.
Which is all too coincidental. Which means he was watching me.
I bottled that information, and went about my day.
The L trio found me during the lunch hour and forced me to have lunch with them. I ordered something simple, because my body needed nutrition. I can’t survive only on water.
“So a little birdy told me that you had a class with Sobek Nileborn. He doesn’t usually talk to people, I mean he can’t- ow." Lucy smacked Lydia.
“Are you trying to die early? Look, I know your sister probably didn’t tell you anything about those boys but trust me…. Avoid them. Okay? They hot, but have you ever heard the say; don’t stick your d**k in crazy?'' I didn’t get a chance to nod before she continued. “Well this is the opposite. Don’t let crazy stick its d**k in you. Alright? Those boys will rip you to shreds and leave nothing else.”
Oh? This coming from the women who hazed my sister and made her a w***e in their basement? That’s very funny. Ha ha ha ha.
“I’m so surprised. They’re really hot.” I faked my excitement.
Lydia guffaws. “I like you already. Yes they are hot, and the girls they’ve f****d have had good things to say but… Lucy has a point. Just stay away from them, unless you’re at a party.” she winked.
Cruel b***h. I mumbled in my mind.
“Thank you for the advice.” I said lazily.
I bit into my meal. These men are my fated partners... life is full of surprises. I can't explain how that hurts me because I wanted a single mate, someone to share life with. A decent person.
Oh well, I guess that’s something I won't have.
I have to focus on Clion, something happened two months ago. Something that finally broke her, and it had everything to do with the Nileborn brothers.
