Heidi thought for a minute that she was dreaming
maybe a dozen times since that strange man walked into her house and took over there seemed to be a break in her consciousness, a fleeting moment when a gap appeared through which she might return to reality and stumble from her dream back to the real world. But cold hard facts were cold hard facts, and after repeated attempts to wake up from this nightmare, she realized that this was no dream. Escape was impossible.
