I finally figured out the funny feeling that I had been getting. And it’s the most obvious answer isn’t it?
I actually like William.
William.
It honestly doesn’t make much sense but at the same time it does. What was it exactly about William though?
“Stop thinking about your hot boss.” Lavender said, her voice snapping me out of my thoughts.
“I was so not.” I said with a snort which did nothing to erase the amused look on her face. She was in a tight black gown, hair curled and falling down her back, her lips red. My friend looked really good today. “You look beautiful.”
“I know, baby bunny.” Lavender said, smiling brightly. “Stop trying to distract me. So, were you thinking of him naked?” Lavender asked and I shook my head. That’s where I draw a line in my thoughts.
“I was not thinking of William.”
“William eh?”
I rolled my eyes at Lavender and grabbed my bag. “Can we just go?” I asked, already heading for the door.
“Life would be easier if you just admit you like the grouch.” She said as we walked out of the building. It was still warm out and I was so glad. Though I would like some rain today.
“I do not like William.”
“And I’m dating Obama.” She said, rolling her eyes at me. I don’t bother saying anything else but she must have gotten the message. Since we were heading out in different directions, I pressed a kiss to her cheek as I bid her good bye, going my own way.
The bus ride to the office doesn’t take long and before going in, I stopped by the cafe and got myself an iced americano, sipping on it as I walked into WilCal.
I said hi to the receptionist downstairs, made my way to the elevator and hummed to myself as it took me up, up.
The doors part and the first thing I saw was William leaning against my table, scrolling through his phone. He was in a form fitting black suit, silver watch, suede shoes and he must have had a haircut because his hair was low on the sides and curled at the top.
“You’re late.”
“I honestly feel you come before me, so you can say that to me everyday.” I said as I walked towards my work station. William stared at me with a blank expression on his face. Was he going to be moody today as well?
“Is today going to be one of those days?”
“What days?”
“Where you be your usual grouchy self and then be nice to me in the next and then go back to grouchy?”
“I am not grouchy.”
“Say that to your brows, William.” I said, pointing at his face. I brought my cup close to my lips, sucking in the icy goodness. I almost choked when I saw William’s eyes flick down to my lips and then to my face.
I was definitely not seeing things.
“Whatever you say, Dev. We’re going out today.”
“What? You have a meeting with Janvier Inc today by ten and a staff meeting by one. You also have a conference in town at three.” I said, frowning as I listed out the things he had lined up for today.
“Not for my meetings, Dev.”
“Then what?”
“We’re going out for lunch.”
I stared at him, my mouth opening and closing. I didn’t know what to say and it turns out that I didn’t have to say anything because William just walks away instead.
I turned around to make sure it was actually me he was talking to and not someone else. Holy s**t. Lunch. Outside. Was this. . . A date? Was this is grouchy way of asking me out? Is this just a friend thing? What?!
This completely made me so absentminded today. I moved on autopilot, leading Mr. Janvier into William’s office when he arrived and then i kept looking at the time, waiting and waiting. I almost sent emails to the wrong people, almost burnt my finger while I was trying to make coffee. Oh god.
For ten thirty, eleven thirty, eleven fort, Mr. Janvier left and then it was twelve.
Ever so punctual, William walked out of his office, one hand in his pocket as me comes closer to me.
“Ready to go?”
Not trusting the sounds that might come out of my mouth, I nodded. We take the elevator to the underground parking lot and William held open the car door for me, before walking over to the other side and getting in.
“So you do have manners?” Were the first words that came out of my mouth. Before I could stop them.
“I seem to remember them nowadays.” William said with a chuckle. I stared at him as he pulled out of the parking lot. My plan was to always eat lunch with him so we’d become friends and he won’t be locked up in his office all the time.
It’s just lunch.
I won’t let myself read too much into it.
I might be overthinking this small gesture.
“You’re quiet.”
“Maybe I was praying.”
“What?”
“Can you admit we are friends now, William?” I asked, turning to face him with a big smile on my face.
William pressed his lips together like he was trying to hold back his smile. I would love to see his smile.
“Dev. . .”
“Come on, William. Just do it once! I won’t ask you again.”
There’s a brief pause and then he parts his lips and says. “We are friends, Dev. You and I are friends.”
