Chapter 9

1112 Words
My day was filled with introductions and orientation. I was so ready to go home when the clock strike at 4 pm. Mr. De' Luca didn't come back from his meeting. I heard from Jenny that he brought the clients to late lunch and won't be back until later. Jenny and I had our lunch in the cafeteria on the 25th floor. I've met some of the employees, and some seemed nice and friendly. Some, especially women who gave me a skeptical look, and jealousy are written all over their faces. Jenny explained that many employees wanted to work closer to Samuel De' Luca. That is why most of them are angry and jealous. They were expecting that Samuel will pick from the old employees as her replacement. They were surprised he hired a new assistant, and judging by their actions, I just became a competition. At 4:30, Jenny told me to stop and go home. So I fixed my table and stood up. I was ready to go when the elevator sounded. Samuel came striding in and looked at me. "Ready to go, cara?" He asked. " Yes, sir, I'll go with Jenny downstairs and grab a cab home," I answered her formally. " That won't be necessary, Cassandra. I'll take you home. Until you signed your employment, you won't be getting the car yet." He said casually as if it's a normal thing for a boss to send his assistant home. I looked at Jenny, and she smirked at me and mouthed good luck before she went ahead. " I'll go ahead then, Mr. De' Luca. Cassie, I'll see you tomorrow." She said, and went to the elevator. I was so tempted to run after her, but Samuel is staring at me, daring me to defy his command. I rolled my eyes and sighed heavily. He smirked and asked me to take a seat first. He's checking some papers on his table and signed some. I am glancing at my watch every minute. I am so tired. I want to go home and take a bath. I have to go to the Diner later and hand my resignation to Ramon. " Mr. De' Luca, I really need to go home. You don't have to send me. I can take the bus or a cab. It's obvious that you still have work to do." I tried to persuade him to allow me to go home. " I am almost done, tesoro, be patient. And it's Samuel if it's just the two of us. No sir nor Mr. De' Luca, are we clear, Cassandra?" He lifted his head and peered at me. He lifted one of his brows, waiting for my answer. " Sure, whatever you say, Samuel," I said with annoyance and rolled my eyes again. His eyes narrowed, then he gave me a warning look. Stood up and walked towards me slowly. " Roll your eyes at me again, Bambina, and I will have you on that desk faster than you can blink, understand?" He pinned me with his piercing stare and held my face in his big calloused hand. His mouth is so close I can smell a cigar and a rum in his breath. I stared at him, unfazed or at least trying to look like I am. He won't get what he wants, not from me anyway. I won't give in to his charms or oozing s*x appeal. No, I can't be weak around him. " Cat got your tongue, dolcezza? I do believe I asked you a question. Am I making myself clear, Cassandra, or should I put you on my knee and spank you?" He whispered in my ear then nibbled it. I swallowed the sound, trying to escape from my mouth. " Crystal, Samuel. Now can we go? I am tired, and I want to go home." I answered him coldly and glared at him. " You can really use that feisty temper of yours in bed, cara. I'd love to witness that someday." He stared at me with eyes full of lust. " Well, don't hold your breath, Samuel. It would be a shame to lose the most eligible bachelor in town because it would never happen." I retorted defiantly. He just smiled wickedly and said. " We'll see about that, dolcezza. You will be in my bed soon. there's no point avoiding me." He was so sure of himself; it made me snort and shook my head. " Look, can we please go home? As I've said, I'm tired, I'm getting hungry, and I need to get to Ramon's Diner to hand in my resignation." I told him, becoming irritated by the minute. For a few more minutes, he stared at me and then released me and strode back to his desk and dialed a number. " Arturo, I want you to send Miss Parker back to her apartment. I will be tied up here for another couple of hours." He then hung up the phone and sat back in his chair without looking at me. " Arturo will send you home, Cassandra. I have important things to do." He said briefly, still not looking at me. " Then why didn't you say so before? Why did you ask me to stay? God! You're impossible!" I  screamed in frustration. " Because I missed you today, I want to spend a little time with you. Now, go. Arturo is waiting for you in the basement." His answer stunned me. He missed me, he said, that's ridiculous. I grabbed my coat and bag from the sofa and swirled angrily towards the elevator. " Goodbye, cara. I'll see you tomorrow. Please don't make me come up to your apartment again. Arturo will be at your place at 7:30 to bring you here." He informed me. We stared at each other until the elevator door closed shut. I inhaled deeply when I'm finally in the elevator on my way down, then sighed loudly. I don't know how long I can keep up with Samuel. He is not good for my health. I feel like I'm gonna age quickly when I stay with him longer. This constant s****l tension between us is draining. He can't be interested in me, is he? I mean, he's got all the rich and famous women throwing themselves at his feet. I am an ordinary girl that has nothing to offer him. I will not allow him to toy with me and play with my emotions. If he's used to getting what he wants, then he's in for a surprise because he won't have me. Never!
