Handcuff

Julian's pov Noah got a call from the police station saying Kyren beat up someone. I was worried and accompanied him to the station without a second thought. Upon reaching there… My eyes widened with shock. Kyren was sitting on a metal chair and his hands covered in blood were handcuffed. “What the hell?” Noah panicked. “Oh! Noah Reinhart!” The cop recognized my brother. Noah was popular thanks to his basketball. “He's my friend.” The cop rubbed his forehead anxiously. “I understand, but he beat the sh*t out of Ethan Scott, and we had to admit him to the nearest hospital, that too, in the emergency ward.” His name startled my soul. “Ethan Scott?” My feet stepped forward. The cop nodded his head. His cold-blooded eyes looked into mine and it was enough to tell me that whatever happened between him and Ethan Scott…I was the reason. He tilted his head slightly as if he was proud of his doing. There was not a single trace of regret on his face. Who gave him the right to interfere in my personal matters? “Officer, please...” “I'm sure Kyren had a reason,” Noah muttered softly. “We asked him a lot of times but he wouldn't open his mouth.” The cop answered in a stressful tone. Noah clutched either of Kyren's shoulders and asked him about his reason. “What happened?” “Why did you beat him up? He was just silent. Ethan must have said something vulgar about me that Kyren chose silence over repeating those words, whereas Noah had no idea about Ethan Scott. “He did it for me.” My lips broke the silence, instead of him. “Stop, little one!” His deep voice commanded. *Sigh “Ethan and I met on a blind date but he turned out to be someone with a bad mentality who had ulterior motives.” “Even a few days ago, he tried to force himself upon me.” "Explain the female cop in detail over there and we will see what we can do about Ethan." The cop murmured. I did as he said. “WHAT EXACTLY HAPPENED?” Noah grabbed my arm and turned me to him with a gentle force. My words told him the whole story. “THAT MOTHERF*CKER DID WHAT?” He lost his temper. One thing about Noah… His temper was as bad as Kyren's. They were best friends for a reason. I have heard a lot of stories about their college time and witnessed a few with my own eyes. Noah and Kyren were regulars in the police station. “Don't worry.” My timid voice whispered. Noah freed my arm and turned his vengeful face to Kyren. “Why didn't you break his hand?” The cop was flabbergasted. “I broke all of his fingers!” Kyren answered. “Guys, please.” My soft tone requested them to keep their mouths closed. “Officer” “Ethan Scott is a bad person and my brother must have lost his cool when he heard vulgar things about his sister.” The cop sucked in a deep breath. “Still, we can't just…” “Do you know who he is?” Noah turned on his psychopath mode. The cop raised a brow. “Kyren Maddox, CEO of Pristine Innovations.” He gave his introduction. The cop’s jaw dropped. “I am so sorry, sir.” He apologized. His fingers immediately uncuffed Kyren's wrists and he got up from the metal chair. “I didn't recognize you, sir.” The cop was respectful rather than afraid since Pristine Innovations was the top multibillion-dollar company and the largest. Kyren Maddox was no longer a small name. “Thank you, officer.” My lips mumbled. “I will talk to Ethan Scott myself for compensation and make sure he doesn't file a complaint.” The cop assured us. We stepped out of the police station and perched inside Noah's car. Noah was driving, Kyren was sitting next to him, and my presence was again in the backseat. The entire car ride was silent. As we three stepped out of the car, Noah slammed the car door and glared at me. “You should have told me!” “I am sorry.” My lips flashed a cute smile. He came closer and hugged me tightly. “Don’t you dare hide anything from now on or you're gonna be in so much trouble, young lady.” His worried tone whispered into my ear as if he was our mom. We stepped inside the house and Noah went to his room, stretching his arms. He wouldn't sleep all night thinking about Ethan Scott. Kyren was about to ascend the stairs, yet my voice interrupted him. “Brother” He turned his head to my voice. “Come with me,” I ordered. His feet followed me into my bedroom. “Take a seat.” He perched on the bed. Luckily, Tris was sleeping with Mom. I took out the first-aid box from my white wardrobe and sat next to him on the bed. “Show me your hand.” He did as told. My fingers started applying ointment on his wounded knuckles. They were hurt so badly that it only made me wonder what the f*ck he did to Ethan's face. “You shouldn't have interfered!” “Why not?” His eyes darkened. “Ethan Scott is my problem, not yours.” He brought his face closer to mine and my heart skipped a beat. “Did you say the same thing to your boss?” “Huh?” Lines appeared on my forehead. “Did you thank your boss or did you scold him for interfering with your personal matters?” His brow twitched. “Mr.Green is different.” “How?” “He's my boss.” *Chuckles “If you can't stop your boss from interfering with your personal matters then you have no right to stop me either.” I was quite taken aback and couldn't argue with that. My gaze landed back to his wounded knuckles as my fingers covered them with a crepe bandage. He was looking at my face for some reason but my patience didn't react to it. “Thank you.” His husky voice muttered. I got up from bed, walked over to the door, and opened it for him. “Goodnight, little one.” He stepped out. My hands almost closed the door, yet he grabbed the edge and met my eyes. “You were right about one thing.” Words rolled down his tongue. “What?” My brow twitched. “Your taste in men really s*cks…except for the one time four years ago.” The corner of his mouth curled mischievously. My eyes widened. “Sleep well.” He freed the door and stepped back. I closed the door in a rush. “What was that?” “Was he praising himself or was he just taunting me?” *** Somewhere in a bookstore… Hailey’s pov I was reading my favorite book in a corner until my peace was disturbed by Sheena. “You're coming with me, right?” Her eyes perked up with excitement. “Basketball is not my interest.” My lips answered. She rolled her eyes. “All you do is write books, read books, and stay at home 24/7.” She was frustrated and her eyes couldn't hide it. “Just try having fun sometimes.” A smile glinted on my lips. “Books are fun for me.” She came closer and snatched the book from my hands. “Hey!” I raised my voice slightly. “You’re beautiful but you're wasting your beauty, girl.” “You don't even have social media and your phone contact is just 24, including your family, relatives, and a plumber.” She grabbed my wrist tightly. “We're going to the basketball match tomorrow, no more discussions!” “Seriously?” I sighed. “Of course, Noah is playing.” She flashed a flirty smile. God knows what is so special about that playboy?!?
