Two broken sides

Six years ago… Julian's pov Kyren and Noah spent the whole day studying in our living room for their exams. After midnight, my brother stepped out into the garden for fresh air, whereas Kyren fell asleep, resting his head on the glass table in front of the couch. I perched next to him quietly and my fingers found themselves playing with his gorgeous red hair. A smile glinted on my lips. “You're my dream.” My voice whispered. My fingers slowly slid down to his cheek and started moving back and forth on his smooth skin. I was crazy for Kyren Maddox. All of a sudden, he opened his eyes, and my fingers immediately pulled back. “Little one” He stretched his masculine arms. “You’re still awake?” His deep voice inquired. “Uhm…I was about to…” He closed his books on the table and checked the time on his wristwatch. “Damn! It's already midnight.” “Are you stressed about your exams?” My soft tone asked. He nodded his head with a smile. “Brother” “Hmm?” His hazel eyes looked into mine. “You will pass all the subjects, don't worry.” “Thanks, little one!” He patted my head. My lips sucked in a breath. “Do you have a girlfriend?” He chuckled and tilted his head slightly. “Why are you curious about that?” My heart was pounding faster than ever. “Because…” “One of my classmates likes you!” A lie rolled down my tongue. “Wow!” His brow raised. “Tell your friend that I don't have a girlfriend but I don't want to date either.” He answered. “Why?” Concern flashed in my eyes. He just smiled with a certain pain instead of answering my question. My words didn't force him either. “Brother” “If you ever get a girlfriend…what would she be like?” My eyes perked up, determined to hear his answer. “Someone like you.” He answered and my heart skipped a beat. *Hiccup “Me?” “The only girl in my life right now is you, so anyone who resembles my little one would be my ideal type.” My cheeks flustered. “And what am I like?” “Pretty, kind, innocent, funny, perfect package.” He whispered. “So when you grow up, find me a girl like you, okay?” I promised him. He said all those things and broke my heart the moment my stupid mouth confessed to him. He said he never thought of me that way. It was then I realized…Kyren was just teasing me and he already had someone better than his little one. Is he still with her? Are they engaged? There were so many questions in my mind but my lips couldn't ask him anything. Julian Reinhart’s unrequited love had no true destination. *** Four years ago… Kyren's pov I left everything behind and moved to New York for my mother. She needed her son more than anything. Things weren't good at all. Mom would try to kill herself every day, and Dad was unbothered. I was struggling to save her while being hit by my own Dad because of my disrespect towards his secretary. The woman who ruined our family. There was no one by my side in New York and my soul was too embarrassed to say anything to Noah. Little one would call me every day, but my fingers trembled to receive her calls while dealing with Mom in the hospital. She had something important to say but I was too devastated to focus on her. A fear developed in my heart…the moment my eyes would turn, Mom would kill herself. My voice wanted to speak to Joly because her pure laugh always brightened up my mood, yet I couldn't bring myself to receive her calls. My soul was shattered. One cold night standing at the bridge edge, my feet were about to jump into the deep river underneath…but a text changed my mind. “If you're going through a difficult time just know that you have your little one no matter what, so please reply once.” “I am waiting, brother.” Even after her feelings were rejected, she was worried about me. That night my eyes cried on the bridge till early morning. The rumors about Mom’s madness started to spread among her clients. They found my number from somewhere and would call and text me all the time to inquire about her mental state. It was unbearable. I had to change my number. Two days later after my mom's death, my b*stard dad married his secretary and celebrated his wedding like a festival. I had no one in New York anymore. *** Present day at a basketball match… Noah's pov Our team won again and the crowd started cheering for me. Girls were going crazy as usual…except for one. I had never seen her before. She was sitting next to Sheena and looked different from other girls. Her face was shouting that she was brought here against her interest. Long black smooth hair and beautiful light brown eyes. Even in the middle of an interesting basketball match, she was holding a boring book. No makeup, no fancy dress. A simple white crop top and blue jeans. My gaze couldn't turn away from her. Everything else around me turned blurry except for her presence. The crowd was jumping next to her, whereas she was annoyed…and the only one glued to her seat. Her gaze met mine and the distance between us was just a few steps. “NOAH” “NOAH” “NOAH” The voices started cheering my name. She closed her book, got up from her seat, and walked out of the crowd. “You played so well.” Sheena’s voice screamed next to my ear. “Thanks!” “By the way…” “Who was that girl with you?” I asked. “Hailey Winter, my cousin from Sweden.” “Your cousin?” She nodded her head. “Hailey lost her family in a car accident and now she's staying with us.” Words came out of her mouth. “But why are you curious about her?” “Nothing.” The corner of my mouth curled.
