Chapter 11 In the horrible silence, a soft shuffling sound grew steadily louder. Sue didn’t protest when Dan joined her and Jacinda shoulder to shoulder across the narrow passage in front of the jammed door. None of them could tell where the noise came from, but with exactly none of them armed, that didn’t seem to matter much. Jacinda jerking her light around and Martinez darting his between their heads only added to the disorientation. “Whoever it is can only be another crewmember,” Dan said in a low voice. “There are no energy weapons or even projectile weapons onboard. Not unless someone built them.” “We have no need for such crude devices,” a soft voice said from somewhere to their right. “One easily jammed door and human nature are doing everything we need and more, aren’t they?”
