Excuse Me

I knew in dealing with this there was one more person I needed to talk to. She had shown great bravery and moral code. I wanted to commend it. I needed a platform to do it though. I needed to figure out a way she could be seen by more than just the family. "Adele Calvo?" Mortou mentioned near my ear as we left the office. Jakarta had already left with Athens. They had her magic lessons to finish. I nodded my head. She saved Mina even when she was being bullied. "She did. Something you have done in the past." Mortou placed a hand on my shoulder in comfort. I didn't like having to remember that stuff. It was never what I wanted to remember, it hurt when the kids would say mean things. My mom even pulled me out of the main school because of it. I squeezed my eyes closed trying to not let the voices from the past filter into my thoughts. Useless boy, silent wolf. I squeezed my eyes tighter, while I mentally shook the little voices from my head. I was twice their size now and second in charge of the Southern Wolves. That was a huge feat in itself. Let alone being judged as defective and useless. "Come on son," Mortou's hand guided me down the hallway out onto the training field. "Why don't we work off some of that excess stress and see what we come up with." There was a smile in his voice. He knew both Tys and I enjoyed a good rumble. Well more Tys than me but I got a kick from the violence of it. I took my shirt off, while Mortou did the same. We always had people who wanted to watch us fight. We always drew attention. Granted we uprooted trees and things but still, it was fun to get rid of the voices and lock them back where they belonged. In the dark and out of sight. ********* After our mini-battle, and my practice with Earth magic that seemed to come to me easily like it did Mortou. I had an idea, Adele was 17 so likely she trained this afternoon. I wanted to supervise this. I was curious where her strength laid. Was it in the field of the mind or a mixture of both? "I am guessing you have an idea." Mortou used his shirt to wipe the sweat from his forehead. "Her training should be shortly I want to see where her talent lays," I spoke. I didn't like to because the words sounded off to my ears. I always had that hint of being off with how it was pronounced. "Good idea." Mortou nodded in agreement. *********** The field cleared of the older warriors. Teenagers started to trickle onto the field. They came in groups, sectioning themselves off to their friends. Starting to stretch and chat while they did so. The trainer took her place at the head, grabbing the clipboard and lesson plan that was left for her. I scanned the area looking for Adele. I could see Mortou looking as well. There under the trees just near the main entrance, she was stretching by herself. She would glance around every so often and then do some more stretching. I glanced at Mortou to see him look at me with a raised brow. Our eyes found her just in time to see her lift her nose to the air. She leaped up grabbing her things and hid behind the tree farthest from the main gate. A group of teenagers, ones that reminded me of Mina with their carriage and bearing stomped out onto the field popping down to just chat. They didn't even bother to stretch. They looked at the trainer annoyed for several minutes before the one I guessed was their leader stood. "Aren't we going to get this over with?" Her brown hair in a long ponytail and her hands on her hips. Her words were directed at the trainer. "Yes, yes of course Miss Mateo." The trainer put the clipboard back down and clapped her hands to gain everyone's attention. "Everyone, the class has started." Mortou and I looked at each other again. This was not how it should be. I am glad I was here. The trainer waited for orders from the girl about what they were going to do. Again I was just surprised to see this. Who was this girl? Why was she taking over the class? They turned to spar with each other. I noticed Adele way in the back trying to stay out of sight. The one girl with the ponytail was good, not great but decent. I could see she had skill. I guess that is why she took the lead role in a power trip. I watched Adele closely she did quiet moves and always watched where the other girls were she hid from. The class was almost over when they spotted Adele. The trainer was sitting looking at her phone. Not even paying attention to what was about to happen. "Adele!" Shouted the ponytailed girl with malice in her voice. "You better be here now!" She added with a growl. It made sense now. The ponytail girl had her wolf. Why was she still in this class then? They were supposed to be moved up to a different level once they gained their wolves. It was an unfair advantage to fight someone with their wolf. Adele walked quietly, she had that look like she was walking to her death. Her head was down and you could see a slump to her shoulders. Once she stood in front of the other girl, the friends of her kicked Adele's knees making her fall to the ground. I looked at the trainer who was still looking at her phone intently. My growl and that of Mortou's was instant. Both of us matching quick strides to the scene. I grabbed the ponytail girl's hand as it flew to slap Adele across the face. "Excuse me," my words laced with a growl as wide dark brown eyes jerked my direction and the snarl from her throat died instantly. "I believe you are not even supposed to be in this class." My tone is a matter of fact. "I can be in any class I wish." The girl jerked her hand away from me. Her ponytail bobbed behind her. "I am of the Mateo family. My father is the leader of it." She snorted looking me up and down before she placed her hands on her hips. "Who are you?" "Hawk Munoz." I raised an eyebrow at her. "I believe you know my sister the Queen?" A slow smirk lifted my lips. Her eyes went from pride to fear in an instant. They darted to the trainer who was now standing with her head down while Mortou gave her a quiet reprimand. "You're the Beta.." I could see her gears working. I was curious to see what this one would come up with.
