Chapter 7 - Hostage switch gone wrong

David was reluctant to leave his mate. She was just warming up to him after all, but his Alpha had an assignment for him.
He entered the office and bowed his head.
"Yes Alpha?"
Alpha William looked up at him from the papers scattered over his desk. "Gather our 10 strongest warriors. We will be having a hostage exchange. "
"As you wish."
David bowed before he exited the office. He mind linked the pack to get a response from ten strong wolves who were willing to go on assignment. He found the volunteers and mustered them together to await instructions from the alpha.
They were all standing outside the pack house when Alpha William mind linked with them.
"My warrior wolves, this afternoon will be hostage swap and negotiation. I want you all on alert as our guest Calista whose mate is the hostage will be traveling with us along with your Luna and a child. They must be protected at all costs. We are about to encroach on a witches coven. No one is to make a move unless I say so, am I clear?"
All answered in unison. "Yes Alpha."
It's was going on one o'clock and the warriors were in their wolf form spanned out but still were on high alert.
They broached the border. As per the Alphas instructions the wolves formed an Honour guard Infront of their alpha, Luna and the two women behind them.
Skylar wanted to tag along with her best friend. David wasn't too happy about that but he stuck close to her in his wolf form.
The alpha stepped forward but the witch spoke up first.
"Ah...the Alpha I presume?"
The warrior wolves watched and waited, growling as the women was looking over them, studying them.
David and his wolf Ulric became protective when the women started to eye Skylar.
"An empath....interesting...."
Ulric moved to stand Infront of Skylar growling when the women was going to take a few steps towards them.
"Calm yourself mutt I'm not interested in her....."
She stopped on place and moved on to looking Skylar's friend up and down before she cackled.
"Ha ha ha ha, and you must be Calista.....pretty little thing....tsk tsk tsk....to think the moon goddess chose you...." she then was shaking her head.
The wolves all were on alert when the women clicked her fingers and a shaggy man in chains was brought forward. Ulric rubbed his snout on Skylars leg when she tried to calm her friend Calista, who was distraught at seeing her mate in such a state.
Alpha William was loosing patience and was getting angry when also looking at the state in which Nicholas was in.
"Can we get on with this? I need that member of my pack back and we brought your daughter as promised." The Alpha mindlinked his pack. "Everyone standback and let the little girl through"
At the Alphas instruction, the wolves parted and the girl went toward her mother.
"Now Nicholas?" The Alpha growled.
"Ah....he is here...." The women nonchalantly gestured to behind her. The chain was yanked on by the womensale companion and the man, Nicholas, fell forwards not having the strength to remain standing.
"Now you've seen him, it's time for us to go...."
All the wolves were stopped in their tracks as the man holding the chains used magic to summon silver daggers that were aimed at each wolf.
David told Ulric to stay were he was or the silver might injure both of them.
The warriors could do nothing but watch as the witch and the man, now they knew as a warlock, used a transport circle to escape.
"Tah tah!" The women sarcastically said as she waved and dissapered in a ball of light.
Once they were gone, the silver daggers all dropped to the ground before disappearing in a plume of smoke.
After they left, Ulric stayed right beside his mate as she tried to console her friend. He watched as
Skylar touched Calistas shoulder, closed her eyes and sent her some calming vibes.
Everyone was looking to the alpha, stunned by the turn in events.
Skylars friend had tears in her eyes as she said
"Now what do we do?"
Through the eyes of his wolf, David could see the look of sympathy in his Alphas eyes.
He then cleared his throat and announced to the group
"Now....we go and regroup and plan a rescue mission for tonight."
As they started to head back towards the pack house, Alpha William was forming a plan.
He opened his link to the warrior wolves, his best trackers and of course to David. "Trackers, I need you all in my office in ten minutes. Warriors be on standby. "
David still in wolf form nodded to his alpha as he stayed behind and gently pushed Skylar back towards the pack house.
"Yeah yeah I'm going." She retorted and Ulric snorted as he padded along besides her.
When they got back to the pack house, everyone convened in the Alphas office.
David went to get a change of clothes, as all he had on was a pair of cargo shorts. He smirked when he seen Skylar eyeing him up and down.
"Like what you see?"
Skylar blushed pink before looking away. "Hmm..."
David felt a rug on his mind link form the alpha.
"All women and children are to stay indoors. I want no one venturing outside while the rest of us are away. "
"I'll arrange that now Alpha."
He closed off his link then turned to Skylar.
"Tonight I need you to stay inside. "
Skylar was insensed. "No way! I'm going to support my best friend! I'm going with you all."
"Grr! Why won't you listen to me! I need you safe!"
David started pacing on his frustration.
Then his Alpha mind linked him again.
"David, Skylars friend will be traveling with us tonight. Make sure she is safe."
"Alpha my i***t mate wants to go too."
"Sigh. Ok just make sure they stay out of trouble."
Then he closed off the link.
Calista then walked into the room. David scowled as he looked at her.
"You two better stay out of trouble tonight."
Skylar scoffed again."Do you think we are that stupid?!"
David had had enough. He didn't want to argue with her anymore. He shifted and ran off outside to blow of some steam.
