♕CANA ANNALIS ♕ ♕♕♕ As the carriage stops in front of the Romulus manor’s back door, I stepped out of the carriage, with Viggo following behind me. I looked at the door and saw the Duchess waiting for me. I also noticed the worried look on her face, which made me feel guilty for leaving the manor without permission. The Duchess approached me and hugged me tightly. “Oh, Kiera! Where have you been? I was so worried. Are you alright? Did anyone hurt you?” she asked questions after the other. I noticed that she’s still wearing her nightgown, and she just covered it up with a thick red robe. “I’m fine, mother, sorry for making you worried,” I answered her questions, then I noticed her looking behind me, where Viggo is silently standing. “Kiera, who is this gentleman? Was he the one who found you? Did he come from a noble family?” my mother questioned, and I could not stop myself from smiling as she mistook Viggo for being a noble because of his appearance. I can’t blame her for thinking that way, though. He really looks like a nobleman with a handsome features. “No, mother. However, he will be my butler and personal guard from now on, so can you give him a room to stay? I want to rest now. Good night, mother,” I replied to her and kissed her on her left cheek. I looked at Viggo, who is now staring at me seriously. I know he was surprised when he heard the Duke and me arguing earlier, and maybe he has a lot of questions in mind now, but I don’t have the strength to answer those tonight. I am so tired, physically and mentally, and I wanted to have my sleep now. I entered the main mansion and went straight to the third floor, where my bedroom is located. I saw Krista waiting in front of my bedroom door, and she opened the door for me. She also volunteered to help me change my clothes. Unlike the others, she did not ask me anything about what happened tonight, which is good for me. I like the fact that she can read the atmosphere, and she knew that I am tired of answering any questions from anyone. “Thank you, Krista,” I thanked her after I have finished changing my clothes, and she just nodded at me before leaving me in my room. As she gently closed the door behind her, I climbed up to my bed. As soon as my head touched the pillow, my eyes automatically closed, and I fall into a deep sleep. ♕♕♕ The sounds of birds chirping from the veranda woke me up. I sat up and yawned as I stretched out my body. “You’re drooling. Is that how a noble lady supposed to be?” I suddenly heard a man’s voice, so I quickly opened my eyes and looked at the right side of my bed, and I was surprised to see Viggo standing there, and base on his looks, he has been standing there for some quite time. “What are you doing here!?” I asked with my eyes wide open as I cover my body with the blanket, but he just stared at me before he walks towards the couch inside my room. My eyes followed him. “Don’t you remember? You bought me last night,” he replied in a matter-of-fact tone, but that’s not what I meant. “No, that’s not what I mean. What I mean is why you are in my room? How did you get in here?” I asked, and he just pointed at the veranda. Did he just climb up here? On the third floor of the mansion? I asked myself. “A-And what are you doing here? Didn’t the Duchess gave you a room of your own?” I questioned again, and he just nodded at me. “Yes, she did, but you also know that I can’t be separated from you for a far distance. The maid's quarters are at the west wing of the manor. That’s too far from here,” I just facepalmed at his reply. “So, did you sleep here? In my room?” I asked him, and he nodded at me again, as if it’s not a big deal to him. Oh my God! I didn’t expect that buying him would also mean that I’ll be losing my privacy too. I thought to myself as I looked at him in disbelief. “Next time, don’t sleep in here. Someone might see you coming here at night, and that would be a disaster for my reputation as a lady, and that might start a gossip, which we both do not want to happen,” I commanded him because it is a sin for a woman to let a man sleep in her room, especially if they are not married. “Tsk! Now it’s my fault?” he irritably said. It’s too early in the morning, and he’s starting to piss me off. I thought to myself and just sighed while shaking my head. I decided to ignore what he said since I do not want to argue with him this early, which might ruin my day. I stepped down from my bed and walked straight to the bathroom. I closed the door and prepared my bath. As the tub is filled with warm water, mixed with rose-scented soap and rose petals, I stripped off my clothes, then sink myself in the tub. I was enjoying my bath when I heard Viggo’s voice just outside the bathroom door. “Do you need some help?” he asked. “Huh!? Are you crazy!? I’m taking a bath here!” I replied to him in a loud voice. “Stupid! You made me your butler, and then you won’t let me assist you!? Unbelievable!” he answered back, which made me realized that he’s right. His job is to serve me and assist me with my daily needs, including my bath and preparing my clothes. And base on the book about vampire slaves, they were trained to serve their masters, including making tea for their masters, changing clothes, and other jobs that a servant is responsible for. “I-I can do my baths on my own, y-you don’t have to help me!” I stuttered and quickly finished my bath. After a few more minutes, I grabbed the thick bathrobe, stepped out of the bathroom, and closed the door behind me. I was surprised to see him standing right in front of the door and was about to bump into him. He’s probably waiting for me to finish. I looked up at him and noticed that he’s also staring at me. “Why are you standing there?” I complained at him, but he’s just staring straight at my eyes. I can see his golden eyes looking straight at me as if he’s searching my soul. He did not say anything, and I do not know what’s going on in his mind now while he’s looking at my face. “W-What?” I asked nervously because I can’t understand why my heartbeat is racing fast. “I can smell your blood,” he said, then he placed both of his hands at the door behind me, locking me in between his arms. “H-Huh? I-I don’t have any wounds,” I stuttered and avoided his gaze because his face is too close to mine, and I feel awkward. “I can smell your blood from down there,” he said, and he sounds like any minute now, he’s going to bite me in my neck and suck all of my blood. “Huh? I don’t have any wounds at my fe—” I stopped midway as I realized where the blood that he's referring to is coming. I remembered what day it is this month. I felt my face burning with embarrassment, so I quickly pushed him away and ran towards my drawer, then grabbed the military bandages used in this era as menstrual pads. After that, I immediately ran back to the toilet and locked the door behind me. Then, I checked my underwear, and I was right. I have my period now. “Ahhh! Why does it have to be today!?” I complained and pulled my hair in embarrassment. “My Lady? Are you alright?” I heard Krista’s voice from the outside of the toilet. Thank God Krista’s here. I thought to myself. “I’m fine!” I replied and finished cleaning myself again and putting the pads. After I have finished preparing myself for my menstruation, I walked out of the toilet room without looking at Viggo since I still feel embarrassed. I know it’s normal for ladies to have their menstruation every month, but the fact that he can smell my blood from down there is very embarrassing. “My Lady, are you sure you’re alright?” Krista asked as she prepares my breakfast on my table, at my veranda. “Yes, I’m sure,” I replied to her calmly, then Viggo suddenly appeared beside her and took the utensils from her. “Give me that. Your placement of the utensils is all wrong,” Viggo said in a cold voice so Krista stepped away from the table, and we both watched Viggo as he exhibits his talent in arranging and preparing a meal, and I was amazed by how good he is. “Wow, you really know what you’re doing,” I complimented him, but he just stood there, as if my compliment was just nothing to him. Viggo just stood beside me as I finished my breakfast while Krista cleaned up the utensils that I had used for breakfast. This is surprising. I mean, the amount of food they served me today is a lot than the usual bread and soup. “I’ll go ahead, My Lady. Just call me if you need something,” Krista said and placed a silver bell on the bedside table. A sign that she is now my personal maid. Did the Duke felt guilty about what I said to him last night, so he’s giving me a personal maid? And the fact that he even gave Krista to me, or maybe because Krista is the only servant here who wanted to serve me. I thought to myself as I stared out at the veranda. “There are still a lot of things I need to do to change their perspectives towards me,” I whispered to myself as I enjoy the morning breeze from the veranda. From where I am sitting, I can see the guards of the Romulus family jogging their way around the estate. I know that it is their morning training to jog around the whole estate. Then an idea popped into my mind. What if I put him under training with the guards? Can he handle it? I know that he can fight independently, but I do not know how strong he actually is. I thought as I looked over to Viggo, who’s very quiet now. It seems like the cat got a hold of his tongue. “Do you know how to use a sword?” I asked Viggo, and he just hissed at me. “Why use a sword if I have my long and sharp nails,” he replied, which gave me shivers as I recalled that those nails are the ones who pulled out the real Kiera’s heart. So if I do not want to end up as Kiera did, I think I should stop arguing with him. I thought to myself and cleared my throat before I talk to him again. “But you need to learn how to use a sword Viggo, the others are not allowed to know your true identity,” I replied, and he just raised his right eyebrow at me. “Why not?” he asked, so I looked at him and pointed at the seat in front of me. “Sit down first. I don’t want to get neck pain by looking up at you,” I commanded, and he did sit down, but with a frown on his face. “Mr. Viggo, it’s been a century since the war between the humans and the vampires happened. Today, vampires are considered as something different and a threat, so in order to protect you, it is better to hide your identity as a living vampire,” I explained to him. Still, I know that he knew what I meant already since this is also why the war between the Goldton and the Moonvault empire started. The humans from the Goldton Empire said that the Moonvault Empire is the place where vampires reside, and since this creature has the ability that surpasses that of a human being, they feared the said empire. They thought that in order to avoid further destruction, they must eradicate all vampires before it is too late. “Isn’t it better if I just kill them all?” Viggo replied, and I just massaged my right temple at his response. How come when Diana told him to hide his identity and stay put, he obeyed immediately without any complaints? But now that I am telling him the same thing, he starts to talk like this? I don’t think this is the right Viggo that was written in the book. I thought to myself. “Aish! You don’t understand! The humans now have weapons to kill vampires easily, plus, they have enough knowledge about your weaknesses now, so it’s not going to be easy for you to kill them, like you wanted,” I said to him, but he just smirked at me. “Ha! Mere humans defeating a vampire like me? I don’t think so,” he said boastfully. “Psh! You don’t even know how to use a sword, and yet you’re boasting yourself? How can you protect me then?” I asked, and it looks like I stepped on his ego as he stood up and angrily replied to me. “Don’t underestimate me, human. I am Viggo Pollux, the general of the old Moonvault Empire. I can handle anyone. Go ahead, grab a sword, let’s see what that mere iron can do against me,” he said as if he’s seeking war early in the morning. I held my forehead as this vampire is giving me a headache. “You’re not going to look for a fight there, alright? You’re going there to train, that’s all. DO you understand?” I asked him, but he just looked at me as if he did not hear anything. “Gosh, I don’t know if I bought a child or an immature vampire,” I whispered to myself. “What did you say?” Viggo immediately reacted, and I just shook my head at him. “Can you at least call me My Lady or Miss, especially if there’s someone around? That is if you do not want the Duke to kick you out of his estate,” I said to him and stood up. I walked towards the vanity table and removed the towel from my head. Then, I grabbed my hairbrush and was about to comb my hair when Viggo suddenly took the comb from my hand and combed my hair carefully and gently. I let him comb my hair then I stared at his reflection from the mirror. It’s obvious in his face that he does not want to do what he’s doing, but his body is moving on its own to serve me. “Pfft,” I tried to control my laughter as I saw his reflection, then I saw his face blushed, then he glared at me, so I just sat there and let him serve me. When he’s done, the two of us walked out of my room and went downstairs. Once we passed by the lobby of the mansion on the ground floor, I saw Keisha in front of us, but I just ignored her. “Wow, you have a butler now?” Keisha asked in a sweet tone of voice. She’s now standing in front of me, with her guests standing behind her, and it looks like they’ll be having a tea party in the garden. “Yes, and so?” I replied to her. Then I saw her friends glaring at me as if I did something wrong to this woman standing in front of me. “Ah, nothing, I’m just asking,” Keisha replied with a pitiable tone of voice as if telling the others that I am the bad person here who mistreats her. “She’s really mean. Lady Keisha is just asking, and she replies in that way? How unladylike,” I overheard one of her friends commented while glaring their eyes at me. I ignored them and was about to leave when Keisha approached me and whispered something in my ear. “I heard you just picked that guy somewhere. Does he even know any basic etiquettes in serving a noble lady? Oh well, you deserve someone from the trash since you’re not a noble lady at all, so it suits you to be served by some stupid useless peasant,” Keisha whispered and smiled. I clenched my fists as I try to control my anger. “Ha! Peasant, you say? I’m sorry, but this guy was a former general,” I couldn’t stop myself from talking back to her and boasting, but she just smiled at me and laughed. “Pfft, a general? Serving as a butler now? Are you still dreaming?” she mockingly said to me, which truly pissed me big time. “Greetings, Lady Keisha. I’m sorry for not introducing myself. I am Viggo Pollux, and it is my honor to meet you,” without any warning, Viggo introduced himself to Keisha and showed his respect towards the woman in front of me. Viggo smiled sweetly in front of Keisha, which really stunned the woman. “If it’s not a bother to you, Lady Keisha, would you like to watch a duel between myself and the Romulus’s general? My master would like to test my ability in fighting and protecting her,” Viggo invited Keisha, which surprised me. What? Why!? I asked in my head, and I looked at Keisha and noticed a creepy and fake smile formed on her lips. “Is that so? Then, I would love to come and watch with my guests. That would be great a entertainment for them,” Keisha replied and smiled at Viggo. I don’t like what’s going to happen next. I thought to myself and looked at Viggo. TO BE CONTINUED
