♕CANA ANNALIS ♕
♕♕♕
When the grand auction has ended, the rest of the customers who attended this event went out of the room with the items they bought, while I remain seated on my chair as I wait for the hosts to give me the item I came here for, which is Viggo.
After a minute or two of waiting, a man wearing a clown half-mask approached me. I know that he’s not one of the hosts earlier because of his mask, but I’m guessing that he’s one of the staff here. He told me to follow him to a private room where they will hand Viggo over to me, so I followed behind the half-masked man. After a while, he stopped in front of a black door with gold linens and a knob. He opened it and opened the door for me.
“Please wait here, miss,” the man said, so I just nodded at him before he left me inside the room. I scanned the whole place and noticed the whole room is covered with red, black, and gold paints, the floor is made of black and white marbles arranged to look like a chessboard, and hundreds of antiques are displayed on every shelf inside this room. I also noticed a red couch, so I walked towards it and sat down.
Even though I knew already how this story flows, I still get edgy as I sit here alone, without any weapon to protect myself. I took a deep breath as I compose myself and try my best to remove the nervousness I feel since I knew that this scene did happen in the original book, and nothing bad happened unless I lose control of Viggo.
I sighed again, then a single knock came from the door, and I quickly stood up as the door opens. I saw five men with a half-mask clown carrying a casket where Viggo is still sleeping inside.
“Here is the vampire slave, miss,” the man earlier led me here spoke and pointed at the casket covered by a white cloth. I nodded at him, and then he gave me my receipt, proof that I have purchased Viggo in the amount of five thousand Zeno.
“Just a reminder, miss, once you remove all those talismans surrounding the casket, make sure to drop your blood at the vampire’s mouth immediately, alright?” the man said, and I nodded as a reply. Then, he grabbed a dagger with its sheath and handed it to me. With a shaky breath, I took the dagger from his hand and nodded at him.
“That creature lives for blood, so if you want to keep him under control, you must give him your blood, probably once a week, to ease his hunger. Also, this is a vampire which they call a Vampire slave, which means, whatever happens, he will not be able to harm you, as long as you are his master,” another man suddenly came into this room, and I notice that he’s one of the hosts earlier in the auction.
“I understand,” I replied to him, and they all nodded at me. I gave the bag filled with Zeno to the host, and they all bowed their heads at me before leaving the room.
I looked at the white cloth covering Viggo’s casket and took a deep breath. I walked towards it and carefully pulled the cover off. As soon as the cloth was removed, I saw Viggo’s face closely, and I can’t deny that he has perfect features that suit his face very well.
I can’t believe it. I’m looking straight to a vampire and that the creature does exist in this era.
I bend down to check the talismans that are surrounding the casket. Then, I noticed Viggo’s skin color is slowly turning purple as I can clearly see his veins from where I am standing now.
From the books that I had read when I was still on my timeline, there are five kinds of vampires. The first one is the purebloods, they are the strongest vampire, and they have the ability to control their thirsts for human blood. The second ones are the day walkers or those vampires who can walk in daylight. Third are the converted vampires or those vampires who were once humans. The fourth one is the half-bloods or vampires that have a parent of a human and a vampire.
And last from the list are the vampire slaves. They are also pure-blooded vampires. However, they cannot live without someone supplying them with fresh human blood. Most of the time, they are the ones who go berserk when their hunger surpasses its limits, which is why they were sealed and placed under a contract that will allow them to control themselves.
That contract is called the Blood Contract, a contract wherein they will serve as someone’s slave and have one master. In exchange for their master’s blood and their needs to live, any commands or requests from their masters must be fulfilled by them, because if ever they try to disobey, the vampire slaves will suffer from tremendous head and body pain, as if a thousand wooden stakes are stabbing them. Also, the vampire slaves can’t escape from their masters because they will suffer the same pain, or worst, die if they try to do so.
Those are the information I gathered from the books I have read before. There are other books that say there is an invisible chain placed around the vampire slave’s neck and his master’s right wrist.
And now, if I try to awaken Viggo from his slumber, which would also mean that I have taken his freedom from him. I will force him into a contract that might only give him sorrow. I looked at Viggo’s face and sighed.
“Don’t worry. I’m sure you will find your happiness once you have met Diana,” I whispered and started removing the talismans around his casket. Then, I grabbed the dagger out of its sheath. After that, I slowly opened the casket while Viggo is still asleep inside, and the fresh scent of roses flows through my nostrils.
I stared at the dagger and swallowed. I’m scared of slitting myself, but I am more scared of what might happen to me if I do not drop my blood to his mouth soon, so I quickly made up my mind, and made a small cut on my right palm, and let my blood drips into Viggo’s lips. As the blood keeps dripping in his mouth, I noticed some of it enters his mouth. As I stare at his beautiful face, I was so shocked when he suddenly grabbed my hand and sank his fangs on my right palm.
A loud gasp escaped from my mouth as I saw his golden eyes turned to crimson red. I can feel my body weakens as he sucks my blood out, and soon, my wobbling knee gave in. My body dropped to the floor as he still held my hand to his mouth, sucking my blood. Once he regained his strength and consciousness, he stopped sucking my blood and looked around the room before he looked down at me, and I saw his eyebrows furrowed.
“Who are you!?” he asked in a loud voice which scared me, and he’s still holding my hand tightly.
“K-Kiera D-Deidamia,” I answered with a wince as I looked at my hand that he’s still holding. I saw him looked at my face then at my hand. I think he noticed that his grip is hurting me, so he immediately let go of my hand. I massaged my right hand and checked the wound from the dagger and his bite, but then, I saw nothing. I stared at my hand, then at him, and back to my hand again.
“Huh? Is this what they meant from the book? That a vampire can heal wounds with a single kiss?” I asked as I stared at my hand with awe.
“What kiss? Stop being stupid. It’s not a kiss. It’s the vampire’s saliva,” I heard Viggo said so I looked up to him and saw him shaking his head in disbelief, then he stepped out of his casket. I moved backward, and I felt myself getting scared that he might grab my head and suck out all of my blood.
“Tsk! So you’re my new master?” Viggo asked in a very irritated tone as if he does not like the idea of me as his master.
The hell!? From what I remember, the time when Viggo met Diana for the first time was very magical and as if it is love at first sight. But now that he met me, he’s acting like he does not want me to be his master and that he is very irritated by my presence! How unfair! I thought to myself as I stared at him, trying to control my anger.
“Y-Yes, that’s right! I am your new master, and you can’t do anything about it,” I answered to him, trying my best to be brave in front of him.
He suddenly kneeled in front of me and stared down at me, then to my right wrist, and he touched his neck.
What is he doing? I asked in my head.
“Tch! I’d rather fall asleep for all eternity than to serve someone like you who is stupid and clueless about anything in this world,” he said, which really drained out all of my kindness.
How dare he say that I am stupid!? I was always in the top 10 when I was still in grade school, and he’ll call me stupid!? I thought as I gaped at him.
“How dare you say that to me!? You don’t know how many thousands of money I spent on purchasing you,” I replied to him with an arched eyebrow while he’s just staring at me as if reading my mind.
“It irritates me to know that I will be serving a noble lady such as yourself. I hate people like you, people who see themselves higher than the other races, and all you think about is wealth,” he said, hissing at me. I shut my mouth and noticed something from his words, as if he has his own reasons for saying such a thing about the nobles, a negative memory, maybe a trauma of some sort.
“But it seems like I can’t do anything about this setup now since this chain is already locked around my neck,” he whispered as he touched his neck again, but I can’t see any chains. I can see from his facial expression the irritation and the desire to be free. Also, a glimpse of sadness can be seen in his eyes.
I think it is really suffocating for him to be a vampire slave. I mean, who would even want to live to serve someone even if you do not want to do it. Who would want to live their life as a slave forever?
“I’m sorry, Viggo,” I said to him, and he looked at me. He looks so shocked about what I said.
“How did you know my name?” he asked. Then I quickly covered my mouth with my hand as I realized what I had said.
Shoot! How am I going to explain to him that I already knew his name? I can’t just tell him that I have read a book about you and stuff like that. I thought to myself and think of something else as an excuse.
“Hmm…the people who sold you to me, they’re the ones who told me your name,” I lied, but I know that excuse is also hard to believe because how are they supposed to know his name if he was asleep all this time, inside his casket.
“They knew? I see,” he replied and nodded at me, but it’s obvious from his face that he does now believe me. He stared at me first before he stood up and scanned the room once again, his gaze turned to the casket where he lies earlier, and from where I am sitting, I saw sadness on his face.
“What empire is this?” he asked, without even bothering to help me to stand up.
“Lumire Empire, sire,” I answered in a sarcastic tone of voice as I pat the skirt of my dress as I stood up. Good thing I have regained my strength a bit already. I was busy cleaning the dirt off my skirt as I noticed his hands clenching, so I looked up to his face and saw him looking at his feet.
“Then, that means, Moonvault Empire is gone?” he asked again, and I nodded at him before I grabbed my cloak from the red couch and wore it again.
“Yes, it has been a hundred years since the Goldton empire had taken over that empire,” I answered to him. As I turned around, I saw his shocked expression for a few seconds till he looked away and whispered a name, but I couldn’t hear it clearly.
“I was too late,” I heard him uttered to himself. I was about to ask him if he’s okay, but someone suddenly knocked at the door, and we both looked that way. I saw two men from an earlier step inside the room, with their masks still on.
“It looks like you have awakened the monster, miss,” one of the men said, and I don’t know if I’m overthinking or not, but I think I heard Viggo growled. I gulped at the thought of that and just ignored it.
“It’s time to leave miss, the underground auction will be closing now,” the other man said, and I just nodded at him before I looked over at Viggo, who looks so sad.
“Let’s go,” I said calmly and started walking out of the room, and Viggo followed behind me since he does not have any choice but to do so.
The two of us walked out of the bar in silence, and I immediately saw Solomon waiting for my return at the side road.
“Where are you taking me?” I heard Viggo asked with an uninterested tone of voice, but I just ignored his way of speaking as I remember the problem that I was trying to resolve earlier before coming here.
He’s right. Where should I take him now? I asked myself too.
“Uhm… I still do not know, but I will think of an answer to that as we travel back to my house,” I answered him with all honesty. I noticed that his rude and irritating actions were gone when he heard about the Moonvault Empire.
I knew that he came from that destroyed empire, and maybe he has met somewhere over there his first master, or he has someone significant to him in the empire, that is why he feels terrible that it has already been a century, and he was not able to do anything to save that person.
I sighed and stepped inside the carriage, and Viggo followed inside, but he just sat on the seat opposite to mine, beside the window at the right side of the carriage. The whole journey back to the manor was in silence. I can’ even think of an excuse to the Duke to let Viggo stay with me at the manor.
I sighed and placed my chin on top of my left palm as I stared out the window and enjoyed the sceneries outside.
Yes, I have purchased Viggo already, and that has lessened the chances of him killing me, but now, how am I going to escape the Duke’s wrath if ever he heard that his eldest daughter had brought a man to his manor, without his permission? Not to mention that this man is a vampire. Another thing is, if Keisha ever also found out about this, she will surely make a fuss about it that will surely ruin my reputation. I thought to myself and sighed again.
“Ahh! What should I do!?” I messed my hair and bit my nail as the anxiety is taking over me.
“It looks like you just escaped from your parents,” I heard Viggo said. Then he scoffed at me as he stared out the window too.
This man is really getting into my nerves. He’s just sitting in front of me and giving out this aura of a termagant woman. He doesn’t even look at me when he speaks, and he can’t even respect me, his master!
“Wow! Whose fault is this?” I asked in a sarcastic tone, and he scornfully looked at me.
“As if I ever wished for you to buy me,” he replied, which really pissed me off.
You might be a handsome man, but your attitude is the worst! I thought as I looked at him, my hands clenching.
“Tsk! If only I knew that this is your true colors, then I should not have bought you in the first place,” I answered and rolled my eyes at him.
“If only I knew that my new master would be someone like you, I would have spent all eternity inside that casket and fall asleep!” He replied, and I almost grabbed his hair and pulled as hard as I could because of my irritation. I glared at him, and he just looked at me with annoyance.
What the heck is this!? What happened to the Viggo, who is a silent and cold type of guy but is crazily in love with Diana? Where is that cool-looking, perfect guy from the book!? Why would you give me this hard-headed, rude, and irritable vampire! Argh! I should have just bought Sir Grimm instead, even though he’s not for sale, but he’s much better than this overbearing vampire. I thought and crossed my arms and glared at Viggo, who is also glaring at me.
“M-My Lady! There are knights in the road ahead! It looks like they came from the Romulus estate,” I heard Solomon reported to me. Viggo and I stopped arguing as we heard about that.
I peeked outside the window beside me and saw the Duke riding his horse while holding a gas lamp, with fifty knights from the Romulus estate with him.
“Stop the carriage,” I instructed, and Solomon did. I saw the Duke riding his horse towards the direction of this carriage.
I nervously stepped out of the carriage and walked towards him as he has mount down his horse.
“Your Grace,” I greeted him and bowed my head.
“Kiera Deidamia! Where have you been!? You made us all worried about your sudden disappearance!” The Duke bombarded me with his sermons as I stared at my feet, but why is he acting like this? I mean, it’s not like I haven’t done this before, and he just ignored all of that.
“I’ve done this before, your grace, and I knew Keisha had informed you already about my disappearance at night,” I answered him, and he just sighed before he looked at me again.
“I know, but we all thought that you had changed already, which is why we were all bothered when Krista did not saw you in your bedroom,” he replied, and I don’t know what to respond to him since I can’t blame them for acting like this.
“Forgive me, your grace,” I said with my head down.
“And who is this man with you, Kiera!?” that almost gave me a heart attack as I heard the Duke shouted angrily. I looked at him and was confused why he is acting this way towards me, after all the time that he just cast me aside. Why would he care now, after ignoring Kiera for the past years?
“His name is Viggo, your grace, and from now on, he will be serving as my personal guard and butler,” I said straight to the point as I looked at the Duke with a serious look on my face. I don’t know why but I feel so angry at him now.
“Huh!? And who gave you the authority to let someone like him in the Romulus estate?” the Duke asked, which made me snapped.
“Since when did you start giving care for the things I’m doing? And for your information, I do not have a single personal maid or escort every time I went out of the mansion, so what is wrong with me hiring one for myself? This is nothing compared to what you have given to Keisha, who has at least ten personal maids. Is it wrong for me to have at least one, father?” I said to him, and I saw his conscience taking over him. The look on his face tells me that he regretted ignoring his eldest child, but I ignored it. I knew he cares only for Keisha. He only cares for Kiera now because I have gained the emperor’s favor.
“If you have nothing else to say, I’ll go ahead,” I said and turned my back at him. Then, I stepped inside the carriage while the Duke was left outside, standing and looking at the ground, probably his regrets are coming over him, but it’s too late for that.
Hey, Kiera, if ever you still reside inside this body, I hope you’re happy now that I have told your father the things that you wanted to say to him.
