I can see the irritation and annoyed look from General Luna as his training session with the new recruits and squires was disturbed when Viggo and I arrived at the training grounds, together with Keisha and her guests. His bad mood even worsens as he saw me walking inside the training grounds and towards him.
“Greetings, Lady Kiera,” he greeted me, but I can sense the distaste in his voice as if telling me indirectly that he does not want to see me nor have my presence around him. Maybe he’s thinking that I am planning another mischief in this place.
“Good morning to General Luna. I came here to ask you to train my new personal guard too,” I asked a favor from him in a proper manner, but he immediately shook his head as a no.
“No can do, My Lady, I am not accepting any new recruits, especially if it is not Duke Roman who gave the command,” he answered, then went back to checking an armor placed on the table, just as expected, I mean, who am I kidding? They all never treated Kiera as a Lady or someone important in this estate, so this is not surprising at all.
“I see, what a letdown, Lady Keisha here also came here, wanted to see you have a duel with my personal guard,” I said, and I noticed him stopped from what he’s doing, then he placed the armor back to the table and looked at me with an annoyed look. Maybe he’s thinking that I am underestimating his skills for asking him to have a duel with Viggo.
“The training ground is not a place to play around, My Lady. And if you want some entertainment, then just make that man sing a song or dance since he looks like he can’t even lift a sword,” he replied as if he does not care anymore about who he’s talking to.
They’re really losing their respect when it comes to Kiera. None of them even want to serve nor protect me, they only wanted to serve Keisha, but I can’t let that continue. I won’t allow them to treat Kiera like she’s just a nobody in this mansion. I thought and sighed.
“So you’re saying that you can’t do my favor or even Keisha’s?” I asked, which pissed him even more, but he remained silent as he looked at Viggo then at me.
“My Lady, I do not believe that Lady Keisha wants to make this duel as entertainment. I am sure that you’re just making it all up,” he answered, but he’s wrong, Keisha was the one who suggested this, and she said that this would entertain her guests too.
“Huh? Alright then, if you don’t want to do it, that’s fine with me, but I just wanted my personal guard to learn a few techniques in fighting, especially with a sword,” I replied to him, and he looked at me with a glare and walked towards me while looking straight to my eyes.
“My Lady, can you just leave? That is if you do not want me to lose my respect towards you,” he said, emphasizing each word. Then he walked past me as he bumps my right shoulder, and I almost fall backward as he did that. He went back to training the recruits and squires.
I noticed that Keisha and his friends are secretly laughing at me too, as they keep whispering to each other. I sighed again and just bit my lower lip in order to control my anger.
Why does it feel like my trauma from being bullied during my childhood is coming back to me now? I thought to myself as I try to control the shakiness of my hands.
“Wait here,” Viggo suddenly spoke and walked straight towards the training area where the general and his students are training. I was surprised by his sudden actions and was about to call him back, but he just keeps walking towards the general. I looked up to the sky and noticed that it is cloudy today, which is probably why Viggo seems like he’s not affected by the sun.
“Excuse me, sir,” I heard Viggo said. Then I even saw him nodding his head towards the general, and I noticed how the general became pissed with the sudden disturbance made by Viggo and me again.
“What is it now? You know what, just take that child back to her room and lock her there? She’s a pain in the neck! And you two are starting to make me more tired, I haven’t had my sleep yet, and you’re bothering me!” General Luna complained, and I knew he was referring to what happened last night as they searched for me last night.
“Ah, is that so? Do you want me to put you to sleep for the rest of your life?” Viggo suddenly asked the general, which stunned everyone on the training ground.
“Huh!? What did you say!?” The general asked Viggo as he moved his fist, making it sound as he moves it.
“I said, do you want me to put you to sleep for the rest of your life?” Viggo said again, and that pushed the general to deliver a blow to Viggo, but the latter quickly dodged his punches. Everyone gasped as we all watched what is happening now in the training ground since we all know that the general is merciless and cruel.
“You were able to dodge, huh? But that’s just the first punch!” the general exclaimed at Viggo, but Viggo did not even flinch at every punch that the general is sending towards him.
“Wait, let’s have a bet,” Viggo suggested, which made the general even more confused and pissed.
“What!?” the general exclaimed again, but Viggo just comfortably held his nape and thought of a good and fair bet.
“My master wants me to learn how to use a sword, so if I win this duel, you will allow me to use the training ground, the weapons, armors, and other things in this place, together with the other trainees,” Viggo proposed which surprised me. We all heard the general laughed at Viggo’s condition.
“Hahahaha! Fine by me! I know you will lose this duel, and when that happens, you will never set foot in the training ground!” General Luna shouted and pounced at Viggo again with a punch, which terrified the guests of Keisha and Keisha herself. He keeps punching Viggo, but none of his punches touched my personal guard’s skin.
“Is that all you can do!? You can only dodge, not fight!” the general shouted at Viggo again. With his every punch being sent to Viggo, the trainees and knights surrounding them now are shouting and cheering for the general, while I stood there, trembling and nervous about what might happen to Viggo.
“Go get him, general! You can do it!” the knights cheered. Then I noticed Keisha looking at me as she hid her smile with a fan in her hand, but I can still see her laughter through her eyes, which made me realized that this is probably what she wanted. She wanted the general to get mad at Viggo and me and that we will make a scene here that will surely get to the Duke’s ears. I was so stupid! Why did I even let my emotions get a better hold of me? Now we’re in this situation, and it’s a disaster!
“Viggo, stop it!” I shouted, but I doubt he heard me due to the crowds’ loud cheers and screams.
“Can’t you do anything else aside from dodging!?” the general asked with a smirk on his face as he punches Viggo again with his left hand, but this time, Viggo blocked the general’s hand with his right hand. Everyone became silent as they saw how Viggo just welcomed the punch without difficulties, as if he did not feel any kind of pain as he blocked the punch.
“Are you done?” Viggo asked the general, but Viggo did not wait for any answer from him and grab the general’s hand, then in a blink of an eye, Viggo threw him on the ground. The whole place was silent as we did not know what to react to. I held my mouth as a gasp escaped from my lips.
I looked at the general and noticed that he had lost his consciousness while lying on the ground, facing the ground with dirt all over his face. Then I saw Viggo clapping his hands to remove the specks of dust from them, and then he looked down at the passed-out general.
“I won, so from now on, you’ll let me use the training ground and everything else in here, alright?” Viggo talked to the general even though the latter was out cold on the ground. Then he turned to look at the knights and squires who are standing around them.
“Nice meeting you all, and starting tomorrow, I will begin my training here with all of you,” Viggo announced with full confidence. After that, he went back to where I am, and as he passed by the men circling him and the poor general, the men parted and made way for him to get out.
As Viggo approached me, he’s just staring at me, and as he stood in front of me, I looked up to him since he’s way taller than me. I notice that he’s staring at me with his eyebrows raised, as if he’s waiting for me to say something to him, but I don’t exactly know what I should say to him, so I also raised my eyebrows as if asking him what.
“Tsk! Aren’t you going to compliment me?” he asked, but I noticed that he’s trying to avoid my gaze. I was taken aback by what he said because I did not expect that he’s expecting me to compliment him. I could not stop myself from giggling at what he just said before I tip-toed, and then I messed his hair.
“Good job Viggo,” I complimented him, and he just bowed in front of me so I can reach his hair, but I can see his ears turning red due to embarrassment.
“What is all this ruckus about!?” the Duke shouted, which caught everyone’s attention, and all the knights and squires quickly lined up properly, and all of us bowed and greeted the Duke.
“Greetings, your grace,” we all said in unison while the Duke went straight to the general, who is still passed out on the ground.
“Quickly! Take the general back to his room and call for a doctor!” the Duke commanded, and his second-in-command immediately approached the general and did what the Duke said. Then, the Duke walked closer to us as he looked at every one of us, looking for the person responsible for this scene.
“What happened to the general?” the Duke asked one of the knights near him, then I saw the knight looked at me before he explained to the Duke all that has happened here.
“Lady Kiera’s butler is the one responsible for what happened to the general, Your Grace,” the knight said, which I could not deny because that is the truth. I saw the Duke looked at me then approached me.
“Kiera Deidamia, follow me in my office,” the Duke said and walked back inside the manor, and I just followed behind him, with Viggo following behind me.
“Hahaha, I wonder how the Duke will punish your mean sister, Lady Keisha,” I overheard one of Keisha’s guests asked as I pass by them.
“I feel pity for my sister. I hope Father will not punish her terribly,” I heard Keisha replied to her friend, and she even acted like she truly feels pity for me, which made me even more pissed at her.
“You’re really kind, Lady Keisha,” her other friend added as I secretly rolled my eyes at them. When I looked in their direction, I noticed the joy in Keisha’s face.
Arrgh!!! You just wait, once I had left this estate, I’ll really make you regret that you have been alive, you little witch! I thought as I angrily march my way inside the mansion while following the Duke towards his office. As we pass by some servants, I can hear them gossiping about Viggo and me, with an annoyed look on their faces, and some of them look happy that I have angered the Duke again.
As we continue to walk in the hallway, we bump into the Duchess, who looks so worried about the news she heard about her daughter.
“Dear, what happened!?” the Duchess asked the Duke. Then she looked at me, but I averted my gaze as I felt guilty and ashamed of the commotion I caused.
“I have to talk to Kiera first, so keep your questions for later, Carla,” the Duke replied, and the Duchess was not able to do nor say anything anymore since she does not want to anger the Duke, her husband. Plus the fact that the Duchess is scared that the trust that the Duke has for her might get ruined, which might lead to my father kicking us out of his mansion. I know that she does not want to fight back with her husband since she does not have the capacity to do so. She has no wealth to fight for her and her daughter’s rights. She lacks the most powerful thing that revolves in this era.
The Duke opened the door of his office and let me get inside, and Viggo was about to follow me inside when the Duke blocked his way and stopped him from getting in.
“This is a talk between my daughter and me, alone,” I heard the Duke said and closed the door, leaving Viggo and my mother outside.
I swallowed hard as I feel so nervous because I do not know what the Duke will give to me as a punishment. Since before, as I can remember, he always gives Kiera his cold treatment. Instead of talking and correcting his daughter, he’d rather ignore her, which probably made Kiera feel very bad towards her family. I also thought that maybe Kiera has been rebelling and making many mischiefs because she wanted to have her father’s attention.
“Tell me what truly happened down there, Kiera,” the Duke said, but I just stared at my hands on my lap while sitting across the table in front of my father. Then, a servant approached the table and served us a cup of hot tea. She placed one in front of each of us, and then I saw my reflection from the tea.
“Just what the knight said, that’s what happened,” I answered. I did not bother correcting anything about what the knight said earlier since I knew that the Duke would never believe what I say.
Ouch. I felt my heart aching at the thought of my father not believing me. I feel like the real Kiera wanted to answer her father and tell him everything she wanted to say to him.
“Did you really start the mess at the training ground?” he asked, and a wistful smile formed on my lips.
Here he goes again, acting as he cares about me, even though I knew that he never truly cared about Kiera. I thought to myself.
“Yes, Your Grace, whatever they said, then that’s it, nothing will change anyway,” I answered, and I don’t know why I’m acting like this.
“Nothing will change?” he asked, so I looked at him, and I noticed the pain in his looks from the words I uttered as if he was affected by those words.
“Kiera, if there’s any problem, you can tell me. I am your father, and you can tell me anything,” he replied, which really pissed me off. Why would he start acting like a father now that the real Kiera is gone already? Tsk!
“Huh? Hahaha! Are you serious, Your Grace?” I asked him, which surprised him while I just shook my head at him in disbelief, then I picked up the cup of tea and took a sip from it. I even felt my tongue getting burnt, but it’s as if my whole body is already numb since my heart aches more than any burns.
I don’t know where all these emotions are coming from, maybe because I already knew Kiera, and I knew how every person in this estate treated her, especially her family.
“Go on, tell me. I will listen to you now,” the Duke said, and I looked straight into his eyes.
“Alright, if you say so,” I replied and put back the cup of tea on the table and sighed, then I looked at him straight in the eyes.
“Did you know that not even a single knight in the Romulus wanted to serve me? Did you know that one Knight you assigned to be my guard did nothing but escape and leave me?” I asked him, which truly surprised him.
“And now that I chose a guard and butler for myself and asked them to teach him how to properly use a sword so he can protect me more efficiently, what did they do? The general said that my personal guard has no right to hold a sword,” I added, and I’m sure he never expected that.
“They only wanted to serve Keisha. They’re looking down on me because my mother did not come from a noble family,” I said, then I felt my tears forming in my eyes.
I really don’t have any idea why I am this emotional today, I feel like, I am the real Kiera, and I can feel her emotions, her pain, and sufferings from her past life.
“Now tell me if you’re really my father, if you’re even treating me like I am truly your daughter, and that if the others are treating me like a Lady in this mansion. Tell me now that you are my father,” I said to him, which astounded him, and made him speechless in front of his daughter.
I can no longer control my emotions, so I quickly stood up and went out of his office. The Duke did not follow me or say anything to me. He just let me walked out of his office, with Viggo following behind me.
