Chapter 13

946 Words
Athena I stayed in Emmet’s hospital room for the remainder on the day, I refused to leave his side. Omega’s continuously brought me food and refreshments but I never felt like eating. Not when I am constantly worrying about my mate. Eliza sat with me for a while throughout the day but we both had nothing to say. “Athena, I know you’re with your mate but could you please come down to my office? It’s important. I have some guards posted outside Emmet’s room.” Father mind links me. I reluctantly leave Emmet to rest and walk down to Father’s office. When I walk in, I’m surprised to see so many people in the room. Fathers Beta who is Apollo’s father Leo, Apollo, Oliver, Elder Jonah and even Eliza. “What’s all this?” I ask in a small voice. “We need to figure out what happened to Emmet.” Beta Leo explains. I take a seat on the lounge, rubbing my temples. “I don’t understand why anyone would want to hurt him. He just got here. He hasn’t made any enemies, has he?” My gaze moves over to Eliza. “No we’ve hardly spoken to anyone except you and Apollo.” Eliza replies. “No one except me knew he was a wolf prior to him arriving at the ball.” Oliver confesses. “Funny you should bring that up considering we had no idea you were a wolf either.” Eliza spits at Oliver. “Can someone enlighten us as to how you guys know each other again?” Apollo asks. I was wondering the same thing. “Oliver and Emmet were best friends in high school.” She replies bluntly. My eyes widen in realisation. “Wait, was your secret mission Emmet?” “Oliver is under no obligation to answer your questions regarding secret missions, daughter. In addition to figuring out who is responsible for this traitorous act, we must investigate how wolfsbane has entered the country and inside our pack walls. It is highly illegal and against our laws to possess it, let alone use it!” Father explains. There’s something suspicious going on with father. Every time I question him about Emmet, he dodges it. I need to get to the bottom of all of this. “Where do we start?” Beta Leo asks. ~ It’s been five days since the wolfsbane incident and we are no closer to figuring it all out. Father used his Alpha command on all the wolves that participated in the training that morning and no one had any information at all. Strange! I have hardly left Emmet’s side in the hospital bed since he landed himself there. He’s still unconscious and I’m unable to mind link him or Zeus. “Can you just mark him already?” Anika whines. “I’ve told you a million times, I’m not marking him without his consent!” I scold my wolf. I get it, she misses her mate too. “Well we have to do something. Sitting here staring at him hasn’t worked so far.” She retorts. “What do you suggest?” I can’t believe I’m asking her for ideas right now. “What if we gave him our blood? Don’t inject him with it, just cut your finger & put it in his mouth or something.” She suggests. “You know we’re wolves, not vampires right?” I point out. “Just do it! It can’t hurt to try.” I cut my finger with my elongated teeth before quickly shoving it in his mouth. This is the weirdest thing I’ve ever done. Anika howls with laughter. “Oh goddess, I can’t believe you actually did that! I was only jo- wait, is it working?” Emmet’s eyes begin to flicker behind his eye lids and he sucks the blood off my finger. He pushes my finger out of his mouth. “More.” He pleads in barely a whisper. I quickly slice my finger harder and deeper this time, making a longer incision and shove it back in. He immediately sucks it harder as if my blood contains the elixir of life. If this was any other time, I might think this situation was rather erotic. Startling me, his icy blue eyes snap open to meet mine. Neither of us say anything for a while, I start to feel awkward with my finger still in his mouth. I slowly pull it out. “Oh Emmet.” I sigh and fling my torso on top of his, squeezing the life out of him. He pats my back. “Whoa there, someone might think you actually care about me.” His voice sounds hoarse from being unused for days. I rear my head back and smack his chest. “Of course I care about you, you i***t! It’s been days, I’ve been so worried about you.” “What the hell happened?” I explain everything that happened over the last couple of days before he starts getting sleepy again. “Rest Emmet. I’ll get someone to bring you something to eat.” I kiss his forehead and leave the room. I address the guard closest to the door. “Arrange for the kitchen staff to prepare a meal for Emmet. I also want his room moved to the one across the hall from mine.” “But the fifth floor is for ranked wolves only.” He argues. “Are you questioning me? I should have you removed from your post for unprofessionalism.” I seethe. “No Athena, I apologise. I’ll see to your requests immediately. Idiot.
