Athena
Training is over for the morning yet I know the drama is about to begin all over again. The scene Emmet created this morning is still on my mind and Oliver has just dismissed everyone except for him. Apollo and I hang back to figure out what in the name of the Goddess is going on here.
The room has hardly emptied when a searing pain rips through my body. I gasp and clutch at my chest and wonder what is happening to me.
“Are you ok?” Apollo asks worriedly.
I sink to the ground on all fours, breathing heavily when people start yelling for help. Oliver rushes over to the commotion while Apollo stays with me. What is going on?
“Everyone out of the way!” Oliver commands.
The room splits in two and that’s when I see Emmet laying on the ground unconscious.
“Take … me … to him.” I beg Apollo. He throws my arm over his shoulder and moves me closer. Whatever is happening to Emmet is happening to me. We haven’t consolidated our bond but it seems that it’s stronger than we both thought.
“He needs to go to the pack hospital immediately.” Apollo instructs Oliver. “We’ll be right behind you.”
Oliver does as advised and picks up Emmet into his arms as if he is as light as a feather and runs from the room. Onlookers stand rooted to the spot.
“Don’t you all have somewhere to be?” Apollo shouts, forcing them all to rush out. “Come on, let’s get you checked out too.”
I don’t like showing weakness considering my position in the pack but my body doesn’t seem to be able to work by itself right now. Apollo takes me up to the pack hospital even though I try to insist that I’m fine, clearly I’m not.
Doctors and nurses rush me into a room to check on me. They do numerous tests and find nothing wrong with me. My father comes rushing into the hospital room demanding answers.
“What’s going on here? Why was I not informed that my daughter is in the hospital?” His voice is dangerous, he’s trying not to use his Alpha tone.
A nurse bows her head. “Apologies Alpha Cameron, there doesn’t seem to be anything wrong with her.”
“How can this be? Look at her! She’s shaking like a damn leaf.” He yells.
“Father, I need to tell you something.” I mind link him as my body is failing me.
“Clear the room, now.” Father commands.
“Yes Alpha.” The doctors and nurses say in unison, baring their necks before leaving.
Apollo stands silently in the corner of the room. “Alpha, I imagine Athena needs to tell you some sensitive information. I must advise you that I have been given strict orders to keep this quiet.”
“Shut up boy! What is it Athena?” Father grips my hand softly.
“I found my mate.” I say in his mind.
“Oh that’s wonderful news! Who is he? Why didn’t you introduce me to him at the ball?”
“Father, my mate is Emmet.” I say as clearly as I can in his mind.
“Emmet?” He asks, taken aback. “You mean to boy who just joined our pack?”
“Yes.” I reply.
“Oh. Oh that’s great.” He’s acting strangely and I need to figure out why. “Well where is he? You’re in the hospital, why is he not with you?”
“Something happened to him at training this morning, he’s also here in hospital Alpha.” Apollo advises.
“Can you take me to him?” I ask father.
“Of course dear. Apollo, fetch my daughter a wheelchair.” He demands.
Apollo bows his head and leaves the room. He returns in a flash and they both help me into the chair. My body is still in pain causing me to remain immobile. Emmet mustn’t be healed yet.
Apollo pushes me down the hall and into another room filled with more doctors and nurses. The state of Emmet breaks my heart. His skin is even more pale than usual and he’s sweating profusely. Anika whimpers in my mind. I try to mind link Emmet or Zeus but they dont respond. It feels like he has a block up.
“Someone tell me what’s going on here.” Father projects his Alpha aura.
“Alpha we can’t be certain, but he seems to have been stabbed with something in the lower back region. He has a wound that won’t heal even with his werewolf healing.” A doctor reports.
“Push me closer.” I mind link to Apollo. I inspect the wound myself and force my body to obey my commands with immense effort. With my nose as close as I can get to the wound, I inhale deeply before slumping back in the chair. “I think it’s wolfsbane.
“Are you sure?” Apollo links back.
“Tell them to give him the antidote immediately.” I demand.
“Athena thinks it’s wolfsbane. Give him the antidote right now.” He relays my message with urgency.
“How did anyone get wolfsbane into the country?” A nurse asks.
“It doesn’t matter right now. You heard your future Beta, antidote now!” Father uses his Alpha tone again.
They jump into action and immediately inject Emmet in the heart with the antidote. The colour gradually comes back into his face and his breathing slows to a steady pace. The wound on his back begins to heal.
Then I realise that my body isn’t in pain anymore. It worked!
Except now we need to figure out who stabbed my mate with wolfsbane?
